Famous Statue of WWII Kiss Vandalized After Sailor’s Death With #MeToo Graffiti

The 25 ft. tall statue “Unconditional Surrender” depicting a US sailor famously photographed kissing a nurse at the end of World War II was vandalized a day after the sailors death with graffiti reading “#MeToo”.

For many the image of George Mendonsa kissing Greta Zimmer Friedman represents the joy and exhilaration felt across the United States on the day Japan surrendered, ending World War II.

But some in the #MeToo movement have stated that both the photo and the statue depicts an act of sexual assault, given the fact Mr Mendonsa did not have Ms Friedman’s consent to kiss her.

Greta Zimmer Friedman said before her death that it wasn’t her choice to be kissed and that Mr Mendonsa “grabbed” her.

However, she made it clear the kiss was a “jubilant act” and “it was just an event of ‘thank god the war is over'” during one of the United States most terrible times in history.

Police estimate the cost of the damage to be well over $1,000 due to the large area that the graffiti covers

The City of Sarasota confirmed the graffiti was removed on Tuesday morning. .

There is no word if the police have any leads on who the vandalized the statue.

George Mendonsa passed away Sunday at the assisted living facility in Middletown, Rhode Island, where he lived with his wife.

He was 96 years old.

Its being reported that “two queer and gender non-conforming activist women”one Latina and one White have vandalized the iconic gay rights sculpture by George Segal in Sheridan Square Park by painting them brown and black and donning them in wigs because they took the recent comments by Miss Majors a trans-activist who was at the Stonewall and her condemning of the soon to be released movie Stonewall as a “call to action” for trans POC.

Those sculptures are supposedly there to commemorate the Stonewall riots, but there isn’t a trace of the actual riots in them. They’re a slap across the face to the Black and Latina trans women who got whacked with batons and shoved into police vans, and still had the guts to continue to lead the fight for LGBTQ liberation. I mean, the people who modeled for the sculptures weren’t even at the riots! That’s just a straight-up insult. It’s also important to note that the Mildred Andrews Fund paid a (presumably) straight and cis white man $90,000 to depict gay people. It’s no wonder that the sculptures are so impassive and tone-deaf.

We painted them because Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Miss Major, Storme DeLarverie and all the other Black and Brown people who led the movement deserve credit for their courage and strength. What we did was rectification, not vandalism. Those statues are bronze (brown) underneath the layer of white paint — the symbolism behind that is infuriating. I know that some people are going to be angry, but I’m not concerned with preserving bullshit art. I’m angry about the whitewashing of LGBTQ history.

Disgusting stunt and a slap in the face to EVERYONE in the LGBT community whop fought for these spoiled children freedom.. Attacking art is where I draw the line with these tantrum throwing crazed “activist” wannabes.  For their information, Sylvia and Marsha loved those statues and that park and if they were here today they’s slap their faces and read them to shame for this silly and destructive stunt.  

You do not honor someone by vandalizing.  You honor someone by building.  But then again I guess its much easier to attack a work of art than it is to raise money on Kickstarter to build a statue honoring Marsha, Sylvia and Stome.

Fucking idiots.  

I for one personally hope you are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

LGBT Inclusive Church’s Windows Shot Out In Arkansas “Sundown Town”

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mountain Home in Mountain Home, Arkansas has come under attack for its LGBT inclusive polices which have resulted in having the church’s windows shot out.

WWJTD blog at Patheos reported  the  attack on the church Wednesday.  A threatening note, written in all capital letters, and with multiple misspellings, including “socialist,” which somehow came out “scholiast” was left behind:

The letter and the vandalism appear to have been a response to a letter to the editor published in the local newspaper, the Baxter Bulletin, in June, announcing that the congregation welcomed people of all backgrounds, including their LGBT neighbors:

While the Arkansas Supreme Court considers their position on same-sex marriage, let’s take a moment to reflect on the importance of the separation of state and church. Arkansas state, as a representation of all people contained within its boundaries, cannot dictate the conduct of a church or fellowship of any religion or philosophy. It has a responsibility to ensure all citizens are treated equally under the law. Conversely, individuals and private organizations, religious or otherwise, do have the right of discrimination.

Once the state ensures everyone is represented equally, then individuals are free to choose, within the bounds of law, whom they befriend and what organizations hold their loyalty or membership. Individuals can be open to learning about different people and cultures, choosing to be inclusive and tolerant of their neighbors in a community, or they can choose to be insular and discriminatory.

We at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mountain Home choose not to discriminate. Our Fellowship Hall is open to all truth-seekers, regardless of race or sexual orientation. Mountain Home. whose racial make-up is over 97 percent white has a notorious history of being one of the south’s most racist “sundown towns,” that warned blacks that they were not permitted to be within the town limits after dark.

Florida Gay Teen’s Home Vandalized In Hate Crime

Gay 18-year-old Jesse Jeffers of Florida returned home from a date last week with his boyfriend last to find his home broken into, trashed and covered in hate-filled red  graffiti including swastikas and anti-gay slurs – both inside and outside of the house.

The Pensacola News Journal reports:

The vandalism, which happened between when Jeffers left and returned to his home, was deemed a hate crime by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, because it targets Jeffers’ lifestyle and sexual orientation. There are only a few hate-crime cases reported each year in Santa Rosa, Haines said, calling them a rare occurrence.

The vandals spray-painted a pair of women’s breasts on the trailer’s exterior. Near the door, several derogatory words were spelled out, along with the phrase “God don’t love you,” with a heart taking the place of the word “love.”

Inside, his drapes, fish tank and front room were also tagged, along with another large swastika painted on his ceiling.

LIFESTYLE and SEXUAL ORIENTATION?!

The ignorant Pensacola News reporter and editors doesn’t realize that their own language feeds hate like this.

Lets all hope that the criminals are apprehended and that Jesse remains safe and can move forward from this horrible experience.

Human Rights Campaign Store Front Trashed, "Supposed" Radical Gay Group Takes Responsibility

The  Washington DC, Dupont Circle HRC store was vandalized last night by a group “that claims” to be a radical queer organization called, and get this: “The Right Honorable Wicked Stepmothers’ Traveling, Drinking and Debating Society and Men’s Auxiliary,”

Okay.

The damage was mostly cosmetic, with paint splatters visible on the windows of the store, and the word “Stonewall” spray-painted on the sidewalk immediately in front of the store.

In the wee hours of June 29, 2011…..

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) gift shop in Dupont Circle in Washington, DC is a god awful monstrosity. We were in there yesterday and between wiping our genitals on the clothing and discovering that the snow globes wouldn’t properly fit up our bums, we got to thinking:

“This place would look great with a bit of shattered glass and splattered paint.”

So we strapped on our riot chaps, poured pink paint into light bulbs, grabbed hammers, and went party party party! all over that tacky testament to the transformation of radical queer liberation into consumer junk.

We’ve got good reason. This week marks the 42nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

On the night of June 28, 1969, New York City’s Public Morals Squad did a routine raid of an East Village gay bar called the Stonewall Inn. Everything was going fine until, in the midst of the standard genital check that police forced on draq queens, a lesbian beaned a cop straight in the head with a ripped-up parking meter. And so queer liberation was born.

The modern LGBT movement owes its success to three days of smashing, burning, punching, and kicking–all of it happily indiscriminate–and the confrontational tactics of groups like ACT-UP that followed in the decades since. Yet, somehow we’ve forgotten our riotous roots.

Gay Pride, for example, wasn’t always a suburban county fair with less fanny packs and lined with banks and politicians. The first Pride was the 1970 Christopher Street Liberation Day march, a celebration of the riots the year before (and to this day, Pride festivals the world over are celebrated in June)

But we’ve been snorting ritalin and drinking whiskey all night and this manifesto tomfoolery is wearing us down so let’s bring it home, shall we?

Why, you’re asking, did we specifically target the HRC, a massive national gay rights non-profit as opposed to vomiting urine on Rick Santorum or something equally fun?

Put simply, they suck. What do they suck? Cash. Lots of it.

The HRC rakes in something approaching 50 million dollars a year in revenue–their executive director, Joe Salmonellamayonaisemanese pulls in a salary of several hundred grand. What have we gotten out of this bloated carcass? Not a thing worth mentioning and every now and then, they eagerly sell trans people up the river. Seriously, this is an organization that hordes money and does nothing useful. It’s a sad, sick dinosaur.

Meanwhile, in Washington, DC violence against the LGBT community is on the rise; DC’s only LGBT center is forced to go hat in hand to real estate developers and beg for space, only to face eviction a few years down the road; We lack a homeless shelter for queer youth and services for our community are the victims of budget cuts. Can you think of something better to do with a few million dollars?

(Did you know that 50 million dollars can buy about 300 thousand pounds of glitter?)

Everyone: We know you mean well, but stop giving these idiots your money. Stop putting that equal sticker on your car. Stop going to their lame galas. And for the love of Judy Garland’s Ghost and Robert Mapplethorpe’s Zombie Bones, stop saying “It Gets Better” and hoping for a miracle from up on high. We don’t expect you to riot (although we swear you’ll love it once you get going!) but it’s time for us to quit with the passivity, move to action, build community and care for each other instead of hoping the Gay Non-Profit Industrial Complex will ever get anything done.

Now “if”, and mind you I am saying if because there have been a lot of fraud lately like fake lesbian bloggers, gay activist against flotilla’s and such and frankly the above release smells of pure horseshit.  Because ANYONE could have done this and claimed to be a queer group.  So lets not jump to conclusions.

Anti-Gay Bigots Harass Actors and Vandalize Theatre Presenting RENT in Nashville TN

Anti-gay bigots have harassed actors and vandalized the historic Nashville Dinner Theatre in Tennesse after recent performances of the hit Broadway musical RENT a rock opera with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson[1] based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Actors in the show have been subjected to anti-gay slurs and being pelted by eggs outside the theatre and started tossing eggs at them and shouting anti-gay slurs. The doors of the theatre have been  papered with flyers and pamphlets for the local Church of Scientology and  handwritten notes claiming “God Hates Queers” and RENT advertisements were ripped down.

“It’s a shame that anyone would target RENT for any type of protests based on hate, since the show’s main theme is love and acceptance” admits Kaine Riggan, the owner of the theatre.  I wish I could offer the vandals some comp tickets to see the show, because I’m afraid they’ve missed the point.”

Video – Senator Kay Hagen’s Office Vandalized, Spraypainted With Swastikas

Sen. Kay Hagan’s (D-N.C.) Greenville, North Carolina, office was targeted last week in a vandalism spree that left many downtown buildings spraypainted with swastikas and other Nazi insignia.

The phrases “Criminal Government,” “What good is justice if the scales are bent” and “blind follow blind” were all marked in purple paint on Hagan’s office and in the surrounding area on early Thursday morning. ThinkProgress points out that some of the tags appear to be from the song “Black Panther” by singer Mason Jennings

Wow – it took such courage of him to spray paint nasty slogans on those walls during the dark of night.
