North Carolina Restaurant And Hotel Association Calls For Charlotte To Repeal Its LGBT Rights Ordinance

NCRLA

WTF?

Via press release:

The unintended consequences of Charlotte City Ordinance #7056 and House Bill 2 have taken a considerable toll on our state as a whole. The hospitality industry has become collateral damage in a fight it did not start or ask for. Restaurant and lodging businesses and their employees are suffering the adverse impact of these policies though lost business and wages.

The North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association (NCRLA) urges policy makers on all sides of this issue to work together to find resolution quickly. “NCRLA has received assurances this week from legislative leadership, that if the Charlotte City Council repeals Ordinance #7056 at their meeting on Monday, the General Assembly is prepared to meet in special session as early as next week to repeal House Bill 2,” said Lynn Minges, NCRLA president and CEO. “Furthermore, Governor Pat McCrory has assured NCRLA that he is willing to call legislators into a special session next week for this purpose if both the city and legislators have the votes for repeal,” she said.

The North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association calls on Charlotte City Council to repeal ordinance #7056 immediately, on Governor McCrory to convene a special session of the NC General Assembly, and on the NC House and Senate to repeal House Bill 2 in its entirety.

We believe these actions are necessary as many complex issues have arisen since the passage of the Charlotte City Ordinance #7056 and House Bill 2; we also believe all elements of the debate should be carefully, thoroughly, and deliberately considered and evaluated through the immediate formation of a study commission.

The NCRLA doesn’t want it’s own LGBT members to be legally protected from discrimination in employment, housing and public services in Charlotte? This same type of ordinance has been passed without problems in hundreds of US cities. The NCRLA is part of the problem.

Congratulations NCRLA, you just found a way to make matters worse for your businesses and have become just another reason to boycott North Carolina.

Salt Lake City Pride Turns Away Gay Groups In Favor of Corporate Entries and Money

Salt Lake City Pride Turns Away Gay Groups In Favor of Corporate Entries and Money

Allegations have arisen that Salt Lake City’s Pride Parade has put at least 13 entries from LGBT community groups on a waiting list for this year’s event opting instead to show favoritism to corporate entrants to march instead.

Parade organizers state that only 30 percent of the event’s 150 entries are corporate, and that the LGBT groups were left out because they turned in their applications late.

A gay activist who owns a local consignment shop, has marched in the parade for six of the last seven years, but was told there is no room for his entry in 2016.

“I’m disappointed,” Sanders said. “When I see a parade that accommodates corporations and big-business marketing to my community and doesn’t really have room for me anymore I feel that is broken. … The parade is our parade, it’s our protest march. it’s our call to action.”

“I do have companies like Bud Light and AT&T, but I also have sponsorships like Equality Utah and Planned Parenthood,” said Bonnie O’Brien, who puts together the parade for the Pride Center told KUTV.com. Corporate sponsors are critical to the event’s success, brining in about $200,000 for the Pride Center each year.

“This building isn’t open and the services that are available at this building don’t exist without corporate sponsorship,” she said.

O’Brien says she will work to ensure that groups currently on the waiting list can participate in this year’s event.

Shameful. Gay Inc. at its worst.

Anyone else remember when Pride was actually about PRIDE?

What The HELL Was CBS Thinking Having FRC Hate Group President Tony Perkins on Face The Nation?

Tony Perkins FRC KKK

Freedom to Marry’s Evan Wolfson, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, Daily Beast journalist David Frum, and Alliance Defending Freedom’s Austin Nimocks participated in a roundtable this morning on Face the Nation to discuss the upcoming arguments at the Supreme Court and the rising support for marriage equality in the nation

Said Wolfson to Perkins:

“Marriage is not defined by who is denied it. When gay people share in the freedom to marry, it doesn’t change your marriage, it doesn’t change Tony Perkins’ marriage. My marriage is my marriage. And it means that I’m able to share in the same aspirations of commitment and love and support and dedication and connectedness, and that my parents are able to dance at our wedding. And our familiy and friends are able to support and celebrate and hold us accountable for the commitment we’ve made to one another. That takes nothing away from anyone else…

…The gay people are not going to use up all the marriage licenses when we enter marriage. And this is not just somebody saying it. We now have nine states including the District of Columbia, fourteen countries on four continents in which gay people share in the freedom to marry and the result is families are helped and no one is hurt.”

It’s an interesting segment, even though Bob Schieffer is obviously cluessless on the subject of same sex marriage.

But the question remains WHY does CBS invite Tony Perkins the leader of an officially identified hate group on Face the Nation and give him  credibility on broadcast television.

Face the Nation and CBS should be ashamed of themselves.
