NAACP Issues Travel Advisory/Boycott: Florida Is Openly Hostile Towards People Of Color and LGBT+ People.

NAACP Issues Travel Advisory/Boycott: Florida Is Openly Hostile Towards People Of Color and LGBT+ People.

LGBT+ National organizations such as HRC, GLAAD, and The Task Force have remained silent and useless as usual.

The NAACP is now the fifth organization that has called for a travel advisory/boycott of Florida.

Via WTSP Florida:

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Saturday issued a travel advisory for the state of Florida.
According to the NAACP national headquarters, the advisory is a “direct response to Governor Ron DeSantis’ aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.”
The advisory reads in part: “Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.”

The NAACP said its advisory comes in direct response to DeSantis’ “aggressive attempts” to erase Black history and restrict diversity, equity and inclusion programs in Florida schools.

We ask all fellow LGBT+’s and Allies to sign on, share, and participate in a Boycott of Florida travel, tourism, and products.

Canceling and editing PRIDE events in Florida plays right into DeSantis’ cloven hooves.

Via ClickOrlando.com

Organizers announced on social media that the event — dubbed “PRIDE in St. Cloud” — would be canceled after months of planning. The organizers stated that recent state laws created a “climate of fear” for LGBT people in Florida.
PRIDE in St. Cloud organizers didn’t explicitly state which laws they blamed or how those laws put the LGBT community at risk. However, they did say on Facebook that drag queens, including the event’s headlining entertainment, no longer felt safe performing. They also pointed to an incident in Lake Nona where an electronic traffic sign was tampered with to say “kill all gays.” Organizers said they did not have the money to hire private security for safety concerns.
Organizers also said that refunds for the event would be processed as soon as possible

This is just one of many Pride events which have been cancelled or altered after Florida lawmakers passed SB 1438, also known as the Protection of Children Act.

Should Florida PRIDE Pride be canceled or altered to appease DeSantis and the Florida GOP?

Or should they stand up and defy the Desantis and the law and run all PRIDE events as they usually do?

Sound off below.

Disney Cancels 1 Billion Dollar Campus and Over 2000+ Jobs in Florida.

Disney Cancels 1 Billion Dollar Campus and Over 2000+ Jobs in Florida.

Ron DeSantis fucked around and found out.

Disney fired back at Florida’s fascists’ Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday and boy was it a doozy. Disney is scrapping plans to build a $1 billion office complex in Florida, and the addition of over 2000 workers citing “changing business conditions”.

The announcement comes a week after Disney CEO Bob Iger said an ongoing dispute with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis raised questions about the company’s continued investment there. In a conference call with analysts, Iger said actions by DeSantis and Republican lawmakers amounted to a “campaign of government retaliation” against Disney.

The New York Times reports that people briefed on the matter said the company’s dispute with DeSantis “figured prominently” in the decision to cancel the project.

This move comes as a relief to many of the 2000 workers who were supposed to relocate to Florida to staff the campus. It wasn’t popular with affected employees, some of whom reportedly quit.

As for Governor Ron DeSantis.

We ask all fellow LGBTQ’s and Allies to sign on, share, and participate in a Boycott of Florida travel, tourism, and products.

FLORIDA – Tampa Cancels PRIDE Festival After DeSantis Signs ‘Anti-Drag’ Bill.

Drag Queens banned. Pride events are canceled. Will not even ONE Florida city’s LGBT community stand up to DeSantis and tell him to Sashay Away?

On Thursday, Tampa Pride President Carrie West confirmed that the organization will not host its Pride on the River event this year after a bill concerning “adult live performances” was signed into law Wednesday by Florida dictator Governor Ron DeSantis.

Tampa’s NBC affiliate reports:

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed HB-1438, titled “Protection of Children,” into law in Tampa on Wednesday. The bill allows the state to “fine, suspend, or revoke the license of any public lodging establishment or public food service establishment if the establishment admits a child to an adult live performance.”
Organizers were concerned that they wouldn’t be able to restrict who sees the performances since the event takes place in such a large, open area. Rather than risk the licenses of participating businesses, organizers canceled the event altogether.

Handouts from the governor’s news conference Wednesday stated that drag shows are considered adult live performances “without serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for the age of the child present,” according to the text of the bill.

“It’s disappointing to hear Tampa Pride on the River is canceled,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said in response to the news. “But it doesn’t change the fact that Tampa is and always will be an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming community.”

Tampa Pride Parade is still scheduled to take place next spring.

But will it be prideful? Because as of right now Florida seems to have no PRIDE.

Please, all LGBTQ and Allies. Sign on, share, and participate in a Boycott of Florida travel, tourism, and products.

It’s Time For LGBT+ & Allies To Get Serious and OFFICIALLY BOYCOTT FLORIDA

THIS IS SERIOUS! – If you aren’t boycotting Florida you are only helping DeSantis.

It has been over one year since Florida Governor Ron Desantis and his GOP-controlled Government set the original “Don’t Say Gay” law into motion. In that one year, it has been expanded to the point that surpasses the damage done by Anita Bryant’s “Save Our Children Campaign” in the 1970s and is more in line with Vladimir Putin’s “LGBT propaganda laws” in Russia.

So two questions: Why is the LGBT+ community in Florida not fighting back? And why is there not a full-blown boycott of Florida by the LGBT+ community and our Allies? No companies have moved. No conventions were canceled. No pressure is put on the state whatsoever.

Excuses have run the gambit of “Oh it doesn’t affect me personally” (It does) and “Boycotts and protests don’t work.”(Some do.) to “What about all the LGBT businesses won’t they will be hurt?”(LGBT+ and Allies who live in Florida should only shop LGBT+ and Ally businesses and support them during a boycott.)

Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law has surpassed Anita Bryant’s heinous “Save our Children” campaign against us in the 1970s because those issues were electoral decisions. So we had the power to vote. But now Florida is under an anti-LGBT dictatorship and we have no other recourse at this point but to cut it off.  Cutting off money is the best card we hold in a very weak hand right now. And it must be played.

The LGBTQ+A community MUST stand up and fight within the state also. But protests have been few and blowback within the state minimal. Case in point. Over the year Wilton Manors in Fort Lauderdale which has the largest community in the state has had only one “High Heel” protest march and has caved to DeSantis and has signed onto mot allowing drag queens “not performing” at PRIDE.

That IS NOT PRIDE.

Even the state group Equality Florida and the Florida Immigrant Coalition made a call for action and a boycott over a month ago. It has largely been ignored.

“As an organization that has spent decades working to improve Florida’s reputation as a welcoming and inclusive place to live work and visit, it is with great sadness that we must respond to those asking if it is safe to travel to Florida or remain in the state as the laws strip away basic rights and freedoms,” Equality Florida Executive Director Nadine Smith said in a statement.

Florida makes over 40 billion dollars each year on tourism alone. Let’s take our LGBTQ+ and ally money away. Any loss to the state is a win for us.

So sorry Flori-gays. You have dropped the ball. You don’t seem to understand that your inaction and passiveness have paved the way and emboldened 16 other red states to establish “Don’t Say Gay” laws because there is no major pushback in Florida. The Human Rights Campaign won’t save you and they have once again proven their uselessness also.

It is time for the rest of us to take over and organized.

It’s time to get serious and fight back.

WE ARE OFFICIALLY CALLING FOR A LGBTQ+ and ALLY BOYCOTT OF FLORIDA TOURISM AND PRODUCTS.

Florida companies apart from Disney who now stand in solidarity (even though they helped start it all) need to stand up, events and conventions need to be canceled and we all need to fight back. Regardless if we live in the state or not.

In the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s some of us have fought till bloody. In Fort Lauderdale and Miami, the majority are sipping Bloody Marys at Sunday brunch doing nothing.

We have lost over 40 years of progress in Florida and it’s well past time we fight back.

To quote the unknown lesbian who was arrested at the Stonewall riots and when shoved into the paddy -wagon shouted: “Why don’t you guys do something?”

Please sign onto this Boycott of Florida and share it widely.

FLORIDA - Ron DeSantis Signs Bill Into Law Allowing Doctors To Refuse LGBTQs

FLORIDA – Ron DeSantis Signs Bill Into Law Allowing Doctors To Refuse LGBTQs

Welcome to Florida! Home of the Hypocritic Oath!

A little over a week ago we reported on how the GOP controlled Florida Statehouse passed SB 1580/HB 1403 officially called the “Protections of Medical Conscience” Act. As written it states that healthcare providers cannot turn anyone away based on their “race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.” But gives the physicians the right to turn away LGBT+ patients without suffering any ramifications.

Nobody took notice.

Today Ron DeSantis signed it into law.

Via Florida Politics:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ COVID-19 policies will now be enshrined in state law as the Governor signed bills that will make permanent bans on vaccine and mask mandates as well as give a shield to doctors who deviate from other medical professionals.
SB 1580 allows health care providers and insurance companies to deny care or reimbursement for care if it opposes their ethical beliefs. Advocates for LGBTQ+ and women’s health care worry that the law will give physicians and providers legal protections to discriminate against patients.
DeSantis was joined at the press conference by State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, Sen. Jay Trumbull and Rep. Joel Rudman, a physician who felt under attack because of his social media posts about Anthony Fauci. As Ladapo stood to address the crowd, he received as standing ovation and one person shouted, “We love you.”

Our LGBT organizations are useless. Florida is lost to fascism and that will not change. Now it’s a matter of survival. Many especially gay men don’t want to leave and in the past have said. “it’s only the trans.” Well, guess what. As I have been saying time and time again it’s not. FLORIDA wants us all out or dead.

At some point it won’t matter if you can’t get a job in another state ,or if it’s a pain in the ass to sell. If you don’t go now soon you’ll have to run for your fucking lives.

FLORIDA – Bill That Allows Doctors The Right To Refuse Treatment to LGBT+ Patients. The “Protections of Medical Conscience” Act.

Florida is turning the Hippocratic Oath into the Hypocritic Oath.

Two weeks ago we alerted you to a bill making its way through the Florida State House by Pensacola physician and Republican state Rep. Joel Rudman that would allow doctors and insurance companies the freedom to drop patients based on what they’re calling “conscience-based objection”

Yesterday the Florida House approved SB 1580/HB 1403 officially called the “Protections of Medical Conscience” Act. As written it states that healthcare providers cannot turn anyone away based on their “race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.” But gives the physicians the right to turn away LGBT+ patients without suffering any ramifications .

Florida Democrat Anna Eskamani offered up a potential scenario.

Democrat Michele Rayner-Goolsby, who is married to a woman, compared it to Jim Crow laws.

“The sponsor of the bill purports that this bill doesn’t discriminate,” she said. “But listen, y’all. I am old enough, I am Black enough, and I am queer enough, and I’m woman enough to know that the impact of this bill — and I would argue the very intent of this bill is to discriminate against folks.”

The bill passed the Senate on Friday on a 28-11 vote. It passed last night in the House 84-34 vote. It now heads to Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk for signing which he will most assuredly sign into law.

If you still don’t think that Florida is trying to kill the LGBT community you are dead wrong.

And if you live in Florida you could just be dead. PERIOD.

FLORIDA: GOP Advances Bill Allowing Doctors To Refuse Treatment To LGBT’s

If Jesus ever did return, he’d have a conscience-based objection to almost all Christians.

The bill was filed by Pensacola physician and Republican state Rep. Joel Rudman who states that the bill is supported by health care providers in the state who worry physicians are being “run out” of Florida because of their beliefs, exacerbating an already existing physician shortage.

Anti-LGBT Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in January announced he would pursue what he described as “prescribe freedom” legislation.

This is most probably it.

Via Tampa’s NBC affiliate:

A bill moving through Florida’s legislature that would allow doctors and insurance companies the freedom to drop patients based on what they’re calling “conscience-based objection” is raising some eyebrows.
When looking closer at House Bill 1403, residents are concerned that physicians and insurance companies could begin discriminating against women, minorities and the LGBTQ+ community and deny them healthcare that they need or cannot afford to pay out of pocket.
The bill also states that physicians are not required to refer patients to another doctor, which is a concern among women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and minorities.

Florida and Ron DeSantis is throwing every anti-gay fascist law at the wall to see what will stick .

We Did It Before and We Can Do It Again: Revisiting The Anita Bryant Florida Orange Juice Boycott of 1977

#BoycottFlorida – We Did It Before and We Can Do It Again: Revisiting The Anita Bryant Florida Orange Juice Boycott of 1977.

As Ron DeSantis and Florida backside 45 years for the love of Goddess #Boycott Florida

In 1977, the Florida Citrus Commission launched a new advertising campaign that featured a spokeswoman named Anita Bryant. The campaign’s slogan was “Orange Juice: It’s Not Just for Breakfast Anymore,” and it was designed to boost sales of Florida orange juice. However, the campaign quickly became controversial when Bryant, a well-known singer and beauty queen, became an outspoken opponent of gay rights.

Bryant, who was a devout Christian, had previously been involved in anti-gay activism in her home state of Oklahoma. In 1977, she launched a campaign in Miami, Florida, to repeal a recently-passed anti-discrimination ordinance that protected gay people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. Bryant argued that the ordinance threatened the safety and well-being of children, and she claimed that gay people were more likely to be child molesters.

Bryant’s campaign dubbed “Save The Children” received widespread media attention, and she became the face of the anti-gay movement in the United States. She organized rallies, appeared on talk shows, and even wrote a book called “The Anita Bryant Story: The Survival of Our Nation’s Families and the Threat of Militant Homosexuality.” The book argued that homosexuality was a sin and a disease that could be cured through prayer and therapy.

As Bryant’s campaign gained momentum, gay rights activists began to organize a boycott of Florida orange juice. The boycott was launched by the San Francisco-based group Gay Activists Alliance, which sent out a press release calling on people to “dump the juice” in protest of Bryant’s anti-gay views. The boycott quickly spread across the country, with activists staging protests outside grocery stores, distributing leaflets, and convincing consumers to boycott orange juice produced in Florida.

The boycott was a significant challenge for the Florida citrus industry, which relied heavily on sales of orange juice. The industry responded by launching a counter-campaign that emphasized the economic importance of orange juice to the state of Florida. The campaign featured slogans like “Florida Orange Juice: You Can’t Keep America Running Without It” and “Take a Stand for America: Drink Florida Orange Juice.”

Despite these efforts, the boycott continued to grow in strength, with many celebrities and public figures joining the cause. The campaign received support from politicians like Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person elected to public office in California, and musicians like John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who released a song called “John Sinclair” that included the lyrics, “We will boycott Florida citrus fruits until the prisoners are free.”

The boycott eventually had a significant impact on the Florida citrus industry, with sales of orange juice dropping by an estimated 25%. The industry responded by launching a new advertising campaign that emphasized the health benefits of orange juice and featured a new spokesperson, singer and actor Dionne Warwick.

Meanwhile, Bryant’s anti-gay campaign suffered a setback when the Dade County Commission voted to uphold the anti-discrimination ordinance. Bryant responded by launching a campaign to recall the commissioners who had voted in favor of the ordinance, but the effort failed to gather enough signatures to force a recall election.

The Florida Orange Juice boycott of 1977 was a significant moment in the history of the gay rights movement. It demonstrated the power of boycotts as a tool for social change, and it brought national attention to the issue of discrimination against gay people. The boycott also had a lasting impact on the Florida citrus industry, which was forced to confront the economic consequences of supporting anti-gay views. Today, the boycott serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up for equality and justice, even in the face of powerful opposition.

In comments exclusive to “The Benny Show,” the Governor vowed never to drink the domestic lager again before offering another big reveal of his own: that his favorite brew isn’t even American.
“Why would you want to drink Bud Light? I mean, like, honestly that’s like them rubbing our faces in it and it’s like these companies that do this, if they never have any response, they’re just going to keep doing it. If you don’t have conservative beer drinkers, you’re going to feel that. And so, you know, I think it’s a righteous thing.”
While the Governor admitted he had been photographed drinking a normal Budweiser, he said he preferred Guinness Stout. “Years ago we went to Dublin and we’ve always been a fan ever since.”

Whoopsie.
