The criminal complaint is so saturated with sexually explicit details, it’s hard not to interpret it as an indictment of gay men as being sexually promiscuous. “Based on my investigation,” Susan Ruiz, a Homeland Security special agent, wrote in the complaint, “I have learned that a sling, also known as a ‘sex sling,’ is a device that allows two people to have sex while one is suspended.” Later, she helpfully explained that “the term ‘twink’ is a slang term for a young, gay man with an effeminate manner, thin build, and no body or facial hair.”
Prosecutors can credibly argue that the site’s operators were breaking the law. But they have provided no reasonable justification for devoting significant resources, particularly from an agency charged with protecting America from terrorists, to shut down a company that provided sex workers with a safer alternative to street walking or relying on pimps. The defendants have not been accused of exploiting sex workers, featuring minors on the website, financial crimes or other serious offenses that would warrant a federal prosecution.
Gay men in the United States turn to sex work for a variety of reasons. In New York, where homeless shelters for gay and transgender youths have lengthy waiting lists, sex work can mean the difference between sleeping on a bed and sleeping on the street. For others, it is a way to afford a degree. The Rentboy.com bust may spook clients and sex workers for a while, but it would be naïve to think it will do much more. Federal authorities should consider whether continuing to spend time and money turning the website’s operators into felons is worthwhile, while far more serious crimes, including human trafficking and sexual exploitation, go unpunished.
Rentboy.com must have forgotten to make this month’s extortion payment to someone.
According to the NY Post federal authorities and the NYPD on Tuesday raided the Manhattan headquarters of Rentboy.com and what prosecutors are calling the world’s largest gay prostitution operation in the world.
Brooklyn federal prosecutors said the escort and massage service was really the world’s largest gay “hooker site”, with 2,500 subscribers and $10 million in revenue between 2010 and 2015.
Seven people — including Rentboy.com CEO Jeffrey Hurant and other top staffers were arrested during the raid at 14th Street and Fifth Avenue and are expected to appear in Brooklyn federal court later today.
“As alleged, Rentboy.com attempted to present a veneer of legality, when in fact this internet brothel made millions of dollars from the promotion of illegal prostitution,” Acting Brooklyn US Attorney Kelly T. Currie.
Jeffery Hurant and his staff are all charged with conspiring to violate the Travel Act by promoting prostitution across state lines. If convicted, each faces up to five years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000.
Its so nice that there is no more REAL crime in NYC that they can go after consenting adults having sex.
As of this posting the site was still up and pounding away.
On Thursday a Bronx jury took just two hours to reach a verdict and acquitted Thomas Cordero (pictured left) a “straight man” who advertised his services on Rentboy.com a notorious male escort service site rejecting DNA evidence and a confession that he fatally stabbed a client in 2001
Cordero who says that he advertised himself a “nude housekeeper”, because we all know that Rentboy.com is where men go to hire staff like “nude housekeepers and luggage lifters”and rough trade straight boys go to get work, originally claimed that paralegal John Conley hired him as a nude housekeeper and then tried to rape him and that he took a knife from the victim and stabbed him fatally.
Testifying at his trial, Rough Trade Cordero recanted his confession, saying he never went to Conley’s apartment and that cold-case Detective Steven Berger coerced his admission. He also said he feared cops would sodomize him with a broomstick if he didn’t profess his guilt.
Despite DNA evidence linking Cordero to the crime scene, jurors believed he was forced to confess.
So even though there was DNA evidence at the apartment, Cordero changed his story and lied that he was never at the apartment, the haterosexual jurors believed everything the haterosexual rough trade killer said because in their minds gay + sex always equals bad
Clear thinker, Sex advice columnist and all-around positive influence Dan Savage hit the nail on the head today and shined a light on an important subplot in this ordeal, overlooked by those too transfixed by the salacious and damning info about Rekers. In a post entitled “Let’s Not Chew This One Up and Spit Him Out,” Savage implores that we “demand that one of the big gay orgs–HRC, Lambda Legal, NCLR–steps up and provides [“rentboy”] Jo-Vanni Roman (Lucien) with the lawyer and the advisors he needs.”
Let’s not treat this kid, who is just 20, like he’s done something wrong, or like he’s an embarrassment to the gay rights movement because–gasp–he was doing sex work, as has been reported, to pay his college tuition. This kind of hypocrisy–Haggard’s kind, Craig’s kind, Rekers’ kind–needs to be exposed. And it’s likelier to be exposed if the people who bring it to light aren’t treated like pariahs and are instead offered real and tangible support.
I am SO with Dan on this one. (Actually I’d like to be ON Dan but he is married after all)
Remember Mike Jones? The escort who came forward to spill the beans on his liason’s with Ted Haggard? Some in the communitywere not exactly kind to Jones and concentrated on his profession instead of the bravery and aacyual great deed that he did by coming forward and exposing Haggard.
Rentboy.com Newsletter: Scandalous Rentboy Romp Caught in Media Storm
One of Rentboy.com’s classic advertising slogans is “Take a Pornstar on Vacation…Find him on Rentboy.com.”
This week an anti-gay activist and family values crusader named George Rekers was caught by the Miami New Times returning from a vacation with a rentboy, and the story has turned into an international media circus, with coverage on CNN, Colbert Report, BBC, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show and the blogosphere. We were completely surprised by this turn of events and we are following it closely. At rentboy.com, it is our policy to protect the privacy of any escort advertising his services on our site–the same goes for clients. Information exchanged between consenting adults meeting on our remains private. Mr.Rekers has built a highly public, lucrative career out of shaming gay men and women. If it is true that he took a rentboy “on vacation,” then he has brought this negative attention on himself. We reserve judgment, we don’t know all the facts.
Just to be clear, Rentboy.com is not an escort agency, we are an ad listing service for male escorts, where men place their own ads and work for themselves, so that clients can contact them directly. Our mission is to create a non-judgmental space where anyone curious about exploring male-male companionship can hire a man by the hour. We remain open-minded and devoted to privacy for the people who use our site, but we can’t take the risk out of leading a double life, or having a closeted or hypocritical career… If you’re a famous heterosexual homophobe and you appear in public with a rentboy with your pants down, you’re just asking for trouble
If you would like to Take a Pornstar or Male Escort on Vacation, Rentboy.com is where you’ll find him. Excess baggage can indeed be heavy and there is nothing like a hot man to help you unload it.
Not to be outdone by Jay Leno, Stephen Colbert jumped on the George Alan Rekers Rentboy.com Express last night
And with George Alan Rekers still trying to explain away his apparent homosexuality, and the Family Research Council distancing itself from one of its founders, there’s plenty of material.
Here’s the FRC backtracking
In the past 24 hours FRC has received calls regarding Dr. George Rekers and his connection with the Family Research Council. After reviewing the historical records we did verify that Dr. Rekers was a member of the original Family Research Council board prior to its merger with Focus on the Family in 1987. Reports have been circulating regarding Dr. Rekers relationship with a male prostitute. FRC has had no contact with Dr. Rekers or knowledge of his activities in over a decade so FRC can provide no further insight into these allegations. While we are extremely disappointed when any Christian leader engages in the very activities that they ‘preach’ against, it is not surprising. The Scriptures clearly teach the fallen nature of all people. We each have a choice to act upon that nature or accept the forgiveness offered by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and do our best to ensure our actions, both public and private match our professed positions.
Even Jo-vanni Roman, the Puerto Rican fellow living in Miami, and better known as the rentboy “Lucien,” doesn’t want to participate in this creep’s public nightmare:
I don’t think people realize how serious this has gotten, and I would have talked about this had my privacy been respected. There’s absolutely nothing else I can say
Dude, seriously. Privacy? You rent your ass by the hour on the internet.
This comes from George Alan Rekers in a statement on his own site, contradicting his own earlier statements about why he’s traveling with a rentboy named “Lucien”
“A recent article in an alternative newspaper cleverly gave false impressions of inappropriate behavior because of its misleading innuendo, incorrectly implying that Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute to accompany him on a recent trip. Contrary to Internet stories based on this slanderous article, following medical advice Professor George Rekers requires an assistant to lift his luggage in his travels because of an ongoing condition following surgery. His family, local friends, and even another university professor colleague have offered to accompany him on trips to lift luggage. Professor Rekers was not involved in any illegal or sexual behavior with his travel assistant.”
I hope Rekers isn’t lifting the luggage there, because according to him that’s why he brought along the rent boy. But in this picture it sure looks like the kid is saying, “You carry your own luggage, AND mine, slave.”
As we picked up on it yesterday, the Miami New Times has a really fucking annoying article out today in which they report on how right wing whack job George Rekers (an anti-gay activist and, of course, a Baptist minister) hired a hooker from Rentboy to accompany him on a recent holiday in Europe. New Times refused to ID “Lucien” the escort, and instead only gives subtle hints about his appearance and location. Well that’s aight, New Times, because Unzipped worked it out!
Using the search parameters that the New Times hinted at in its article this is the “pro-boy” that Rekers took to Europe. He’s “blond,” “slender,” and has the same verbiage in his profile that the paper quotes (“will do anything as long you ask first”). None of the other 75 escorts in Miami matched up like he did. He also has an 8-inch uncut cock, but so does every escort in Miami.
The biggest tell, however, came from the breadcrumb that the New Times left: that “Lucien” was the same age as Rekers’ 20-year-old son. (Ewwwwww)
So Ladies, Gentelmen and everything in between, MEET Rentboy -Boynextdoor/Geo! (Whose profile at Rentboy.com has since been deleted.)
So Rekers, how much DOES it cost for ten days with a barely legal, hairless, blond, hung, uncut, bisexual Puerto Rican twink who is happy to spank you and shove it up your gelatinous vile bigoted ass?
In 1983 George Allan Rekers helped James Dobson found the Family Research Council. He has served as “advisory roles with Congress, the White House, and the Department of Health and Human Services and testifying as a state’s witness in favor of Florida’s gay adoption ban,” and “is a board member of the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality,” and “lectures worldwide, from Europe to the Middle East, on teen sexuality.”
On April 13, the “rent boy” (whom we’ll call Lucien) arrived at Miami International Airport on Iberian Airlines Flight 6123, after a ten-day, fully subsidized trip to Europe. He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart. That man was George Alan Rekers, of North Miami — the callboy’s client and, as it happens, one of America’s most prominent anti-gay activists. Rekers, a Baptist minister who is a leading scholar for the Christian right, left the terminal with his gay escort, looking a bit discomfited when a picture of the two was snapped with a hot-pink digital camera.
Rekers, in an interesting move, is answering a reporter’s phone calls. He says he hired the rentboy, who the Times dubbed “Lucien,” to help with his luggage, because he just had surgery and cannot lift his bags; he did manage to push his luggage cart. But he didn’t deny he met Lucien on Rentboy.com, where his profile describes his “smooth, sweet, tight ass” and “perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut)” and notes he is “wild” and “up for anything.” Lucien, however, did confirm that’s how they met.
Rekker must think everyone hires thier help from escort sites. Need an electrician? Need a nanny? Need a piano teacher? Clearly one of the enterprising young men at Rentboy.com should be your first choice.
