The Biden administration proposed a dramatic overhaul of campus sexual assault rules on Thursday, acting to expand protections for LGBTQ students, bolster the rights of victims and widen colleges’ responsibilities in addressing sexual misconduct. The proposal, announced on the 50th anniversary of the Title IX women’s rights law, is intended to replace a set of controversial rules issued during the Trump administration by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. The proposal is almost certain to be challenged by conservatives, and it is expected to lead to new legal battles over the rights of transgender students in schools, especially in sports.
Love ya Joe. But still waiting on the Equality Act in the first 100 days, It’s now 942 days before the END of your first term.
Tuesday Governor Andy Beshear (D) signed an executive order to prevent discrimination in employment, services, and contracting in the state of Kentucky.
According to the executive order: “It shall be the policy of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to prohibit discrimination in employer-employee relations or in the provision of public services because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, age, pregnancy or related medical condition, marital or familial status, disability or veteran status. Employer-employee relations shall include but not be limited to hiring, promotion, termination, tenure, recruitment and compensation.”
“When I ran for this office I pledged to be a governor for all Kentuckians, and when I took my oath I swore to use my position to protect all of our citizens equally,” Beshear said. “This executive order ensures that no Kentuckian has to tolerate being discriminated against because of who they are. I’m proud to sign this.”
“The challenges Kentucky faces with a global health pandemic and the widespread financial fallout requires that we draw on the full spectrum of knowledge, skills and talent of our people,” Gov. Beshear added. “This executive order sends the right message about our compassion and our priorities. It establishes the expectation that everyone in Kentucky is treated fairly and ensures that our commonwealth welcomes and benefits from the contributions of all our citizen.”
Jim Garlow, the radical anti-LGBT religious extremist Senior Pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego, California was a vocal opponent against gay marriage in California with his strong support of Proposition 8,.
Not that Prop 8 has been verturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, Garlow and the conservative Capitol Resource Institute are now leading the charge against a California law that protects transgender children from discrimination. The law allows children to self-identify their gender, use the restroom of their choice and play on school sports teams of their choice.
During a recent webcast, Pastor Garlow told his fellow pastors to be “prophets” and fight the transgender law, even if they have to die:
“I would rather die in the battle for truth than continue living under the chaos and tyranny that is coming upon us. And so some things are worth dying for, whether it’s in our own emotions or in our own ambitions or whether it’s actual, physical death. Some things are worth standing for and it’s time for us to stand up. We’re coming into a season of intensified persecution, we all see it, we all know it, discerning people grasp it. So be it.”
Garlow who once compared children losing their parents on 9/11 to children with gay parents, also compares marriage equality to slavery and has said that “Satan” is behind extending the freedom to marry to gay and lesbian couple
