Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Removes LGBT Seniors From Annual Survey

Via NBC News reports:

Advocates are outraged that questions about LGBTQ seniors have suddenly been removed from an annual survey that determines services for elderly Americans. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) uses the National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants (NSOAAP) to decide how to allocate federal funding to groups that work with the elderly.

For years, LGBTQ groups lobbied to have the survey include questions that would help identify the amount of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elderly people who live in the U.S. and participate in services.

In 2014, questions about sexual orientation and gender identity were added to the survey — helping researchers determine the U.S. is home to about 3 million LGBTQ people over the age of 55. The Trump administration released a draft of the 2017 survey, with only one noticeable change from previous years: The LGBTQ questions are gone.

SAGE responds:  (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders)

Services & Advocacy for LGBT Elders (SAGE) announced today that it is launching a nationwide effort to oppose the Trump Administration’s proposed erasure of LGBT elders from the National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants (NSOAAP). Specifically, SAGE opposes changes that would eliminate questions that allow the federal government to assess the extent to which LGBT older adults are receiving federally funded elder services. According to a March 13 notice in the Federal Register, those questions (which have been included in the Survey since 2014) are proposed for elimination in the 2017 Survey. This is the only change the Trump Administration proposes to the Survey.

This annual survey is conducted by the federal government to evaluate the effectiveness of programs funded under Title III of the Older Americans Act, including who is being served by such programs. Results from the survey are used to determine how to direct billions of dollars toward older people’s needs through publicly funded senior centers, home-delivered meals, family caregiver support, transportation, and other key supports.

Community advocates have made inclusion of LGBT people in government surveys a top priority as a way of ensuring that they are counted and that those in need receive their fair share of taxpayer-funded services. This is especially true for the more than 3 million LGBT older Americans, who often confront severe challenges, including intense social isolation. LGBT elders are twice as likely to live alone, twice as likely to be single, and 3-4 times less likely to have children to help care for them in their later years; many are estranged from their families of origin as a result of historical bias. LGBT elders, who suffer from the accumulated results of a lifetime of discrimination, are more likely to live in poverty than older Americans in general, and more likely to struggle with serious health conditions.

NEW RULES: Bill Maher Goes After The “Lazy Liberalism” of the PC Halloween Costume Police – Video

Bill Maher Halloween

On this weeks episode of  HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,”  Maher went on an epic rant during his “New Rules” segment against the faux outrage against “politically incorrect” Halloween costumes.

“The fake outrage people get 364 days a year to hypersensitive about everything, there has to be one day where ‘going too far’ isn’t just OK, it’s celebrated,” Maher said. “Halloween is supposed to be politically incorrect. That’s why we say ‘trick or treat’ instead of ‘placate and coddle.’”

Maher then blasted “lazy liberalism” that sees faux outrage and politically correct cries as accomplishing something. Saying, “There’s 12 geishas in the whole world, and they’re all in Kyoto. they’re never going to find out you dressed like them at the office party in Irvine.”

Maher does on: “Banning a hobo costume doesn’t make the homeless feel better. It makes you feel better. This is the lazy liberalism in which scolding has become a substitute for actually doing something.”

And he’s 100% right.

Starts at  the 2:55 mark.

UPDATE: GUILTY! – Bradley Manning Trial Judge Alters Charges AFTER Closing Arguments

Bradley manning pride marshall

UPDATE:  Bradley Manning was acquitted of aiding the enemy in a military court-martial, but was convicted of six espionage counts, five theft charges, a computer fraud charge and other military infractions that can lead to a sentence of 150 years in prison.

It’s a sad day for America.

The Bradley Manning Support Network is reporting that Judge Col. Denise Lind who is presiding over Manning’s case at the last minute has altered some of the charges against PFC Bradley Manning  before her verdict,  and after his attorney’s closing arguments had been made leaving Manning’s defense has no way to defend him against these new charges.

For three of the five theft charges against Manning, the government is now alleging that he stole “portions of” databases. Until last week, Manning had been charged with stealing entire databases. Also, the government is alleging that Manning stole the information within the records, though it had charged him with merely stealing the databases.

“Because all of these critical ‘clarifications’ are coming after eight weeks of testimony, and because these offenses carry with them 50 years of potential imprisonment, and because the Defense was actually misled by the Charge Sheet, the Defense requests that this Court declare a mistrial as to the section 641 offenses,” stated defense attorney David Coombs.

Coombs is hoping to use military rule to bolster his chances of having a mistrial.  As per the BMSN, under Rule for Courts Martial 915, a military judge may declare a mistrial when “manifestly necessary in the interest of justice because of circumstances arising during the proceedings which cast substantial doubt upon the fairness of the proceedings.

There has also been charges of intimidation against the press from the military on the day the charges were changed.  According to journalist Kevin Gosztola, military presence was used in the courtroom on July 25 to discourage the assigned press, with armed guards leaning over the shoulders of writers working on their laptops and others on the outside tracking messages that were sent via Twitter.

Regardless if Manning is innocent or guilty in your eyes, Manning has been tortured, isolated, bamboozled and forced to suffer by a people supposed to love freedom.

This is unacceptable and Un-American.  Our government should be ashamed and held accountable.

OUTRAGE – Dharun Ravi Released Early From Jail In The Tyler Clementi Suicide Case

Dharun Ravi, who was sentenced him to only 30 days in jail — far less than the 10-year prison sentence he should have gotten for his part in Tyler Cmeneti’s suicide has been released on good behavior 10 days early from the Middlesex County jail where he was serving his slap on the wrist sentence.

Ravi used a friend’s computer in September 2010 to view a few seconds of live streaming video from his own dorm-room webcam and saw roommate Tyler Clementi and another man kissing.

Ravi then told other students about Clementi being gay in person, in texts, instant messages and tweets — and alerted others again two days later that Clementi, 18, wanted the room to himself again. That time however the camera did not operate.

A night later, when Tyler Clementi found out he committed suicide.

Ravi was convicted in March on criminal charges, including bias intimidation, invasion of privacy and tampering with a witness. But NOT the death of Clementi and was sentenced to only 30 days in jail.

Dharun Ravi has literally gotten away with murder.
