NOM’s Brian Brown To AZ’s Jan Brewer: Sign The Damn Anti-Gay Bill, Meanwhile HRC Finally Reacts

Arizona

Posted by the National Organization for Marriage President and bigot Brian Brownshit to his evil minions on NOM’s website yesterday

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years from witnessing the redefinition of marriage in several states and in other places around the world, it is that there is an inevitable impasse between the genderless marriage regime and the conscience rights of those who believe in marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Wherever marriage is redefined, the story is the same: florists, photographers, bakers, caterers, social hall owners — anyone who runs a business that caters to the celebration of nuptials — these individuals are forced to choose between their deeply held beliefs about marriage and the prospect of being forced out of business by onerous lawsuits claiming ‘discrimination.’

So I’m asking you to take action today to support two state-level pieces of legislation which aim to protect individuals and their businesses from legal reprisals for declining to participate in same-sex ‘marriages.’ The bills are pending in Arizona and Kansas.

Urge Arizona Governor Jan Brewer to Sign the Religious Freedom Restoration Act

Thanks for standing with us to protect marriage and the faith communities that sustain it.

Faithfully,

Brian S. Brown

Meanwhile almost a whole week AFTER this whole fiasco started the Human Rights Campaign has FINALLY sent out a rather boilerplate press release:

Allowing the Senate passage of Arizona’s so-called “Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin released the following statement: “This bill is bad for business, bad for the LGBT community and bad for all Arizonans. Governor Brewer, who herself described it as very controversial, must veto it and send a strong message that legally sanctioned discrimination has no place in Arizona. “Religious groups have a long established first amendment ability to operate according to their own beliefs. However, when individuals or businesses go out into the commercial market, they must abide by legal non-discrimination provisions. “When providing a service to the public, a business owner shouldn’t pick and choose who they want to provide a service to and who they want to deny. Instead of protecting religious liberty, this bill gives license for discrimination to run rampant across the state.”

You know since its good for their business and donations if President Obama had said the slightest thing about gay people HRC and Chad “I was born a poor homo in Alabama and now make 375k a year for HRC” Griffin would be writing press releases in tongues and bombarding the media outlets within 5 minutes of it happening

Then people wonder why 45 year after Stonewall we still don;t have equality.

GOP Rep Susan Collins Co-Sponsors The Uniting American Families Act – Is It Just An Empty Gesture?

GOP Senator Susan Collins of Maine has become the first Republicans to co-sponsor the Uniting American Families Act which will allow Americans the same ability to sponsor permanent same-gender partners for immigration purposes.  As of now Collins is only the 27th co-sponsor of the legislation

“This legislation would simply update our nation’s immigration laws to treat bi-national couples equally. More than two dozen countries recognize same-gender couples for immigration purposes. This important civil rights legislation would help prevent committed, loving families from being forced to choose between leaving their family or leaving their country.” So at least one GOP Senator is brave enough & understands that gay rights are human rights. Let’s hope this legislation is put on the fast track to Obama by the end of 2012.

Collins who has rated 78% LGBT friendly in Congress by the Human Rights Campaign was among the “no” votes on another immigration-related bill called  the DREAM Act, which would have offered young, undocumented immigrants a path to  citizenship if they pursue a college education or military service and in the past has not been above using LGBT issues in legislation as a bargaining chip.

Collins has chosen NOT to run for re-election and her term in Congress will be long finished before the Uniting American Families Act ever reaches the floor.

Toronto Blue Jays Yunel Escobar Suspended For 3 Games After Wearing Eyeback Which Read “You are a faggot”.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that shortstop Yunel Escobar will receive a 3 day suspension without pay and work with GLAAD and the You Can Play project, after he was seen with an anti-gay slur written in Spanish on his eye-black over the weekend after appearing at Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with the Spanish words “TU ERE MARICON” written on an eyeblack sticker, a black patch baseball players wear under their eyes to reduce the sun’s glare which translates into “You are a faggot”.

Bud Selig the current Commissioner of Major League Baseball in a prepared statement said:

“I consistently say that Baseball is a social institution with important social responsibilities and that I expect those who represent Major League Baseball to act with the kind of respect and sensitivity that the game’s diverse fan base deserves.  Mr. Escobar has admitted that his actions were a mistake and I am hopeful he can use this unfortunate situation as an opportunity to educate himself and others that intolerance has no place in our game or society.”

Escobar told reporters that the message was “just a joke” and that “maricon” is a meaningless word that’s often used among Latin players which if true, in itself is shameful that an anti-gay insult  has become so common that its derogatory nature isn’t readily apparent to those who use it.

Escobar will undergo sensitivity training and his lost salary will be donated to You Can Play Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

“I agree with the suspension. I don’t have any problem with that.  I’m sorry for my actions the other day. I don’t have anything against homosexuals. I have friends who are gay.”

Fact Check:  A majority of homophobes also say “I have friends who are gay”.

Just saying…….

Human Rights Campaign to NBA, WNBA and NHL: Time is Now for Non-Discrimination Protections

WASHINGTONToday the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, called on the National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) to adopt non-discrimination policies for their LGBT players and staff.  The call comes just days after Major League Baseball (MLB) added sexual orientation to its non-discrimination policy.  HRC suggests that the NBA, WNBA and the NHL go one step further and also add gender identity.

“Unfortunately, NBA, WNBA and NHL players and staff can be discriminated against for no other reason than their sexual orientation or gender identity,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese.  “Seeing as the NBA is currently in negotiations with its players union and the NHL collective bargaining agreement is set to expire next year, now would be a great opportunity for both organizations and the NBA’s women’s counterpart to adopt a non-discrimination policy that protects players and employees.”

As evidenced by its program NBA Cares, Commissioner David Stern has set the standard for inclusivity on and off the court. “Adding these fundamental protections is very much in keeping with the NBA’s commitment to diversity,” stated Solmonese. “This should not be a heavy lift for them.”

Last week Major League Baseball (MLB) added sexual orientation to their employment non-discrimination protections, with language similar to the policy adopted by the National Football League (NFL) in September.  Because there are no legal protections at the federal level, many private employers have adopted policies to protect their LGBT employees against unfair employment practices.  HRC’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) provides an in-depth analysis and rating of large U.S. employers and their policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees. – Charles Joughin | Charles.Joughin@hrc.org

I wonder if the HRC knows that if they actually did some work on ENDA and applied some time, money, and muscle and got it actually passed after these long 20 years, that it would include protections for EVERY LGBT in the United States as well athletes that make a couple of million dollars a year.

Fucking incredible.

I nominate this for the “Let’s Send Out A Press Release To Make It Look Like We’re Actually Doing Something” Award of 2011.

An Open Letter To GLAAD: Since I Am Doing Your Work ……

Dear GLAAD:

I’m writing this to you because its been an interesting week for both of us.  Well for me at least anyway.  You see I’ve been diligently trying to fight MSNBC and the news media outlets use of hate group spokespeople and leaders like Tony Perkins and his co-horts as  pundits on air and giving them a sense of legitimacy.  I’ve also questioned Oprah and Doctor Oz of having not one but two anti-LGBT  Megachurch Pastors,  Rick Warren and Joel Osteen on his Dr. Oz’s show in the same week.  And I’ve covered and gone after a FOX 25 News “investigative reporter” in Massachusetts who went on a gay witch-hunt over a high school teachers gay porn past.  And I see, well you’ve, well you’ve reached out to Neil Patrick Harris after he apologized for saying the word “tranny” and you’ve done a “What to Watch on Television This Week” column.

Hmmmm well far be it from me to question an organization which rakes in over 10 million dollars a year in donations but ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

I mean seriously, this has been a long time coming, and I doubt after this I will ever win a GLAAD Media Award for Best Blog of the Year, but you know what.  I wouldn’t want it because it would drag DOWN the integrity of my blog.

The question remains though why am I, and other bloggers out there doing the hard work for free while you have Media Awards and write handbooks on the proper words to use in a conversation with a transgender individual, and review movies?

Perhaps MSNBC and othemain stream news media outlets who using Family Resource Council President Tony Perkins the man who has called  pedophilia “a homosexual problem,” argued that LGBT youth commit suicide because they know they’re “abnormal,” compared gays and lesbians to terrorists, and has criticized the “It Gets Better” project for supposedly trying to “recruit” children into a “lifestyle” of “perversion,” as a legitimate news pundit isn’t a BIG issue for GLAAD.

But you know what.  IT SHOULD BE.

Just as Rick Warren and Joel Osteen appearing on daytime television and news reporters who purposely ruin gay teachers careers are using homophobia and yellow jounalism should be also.

The fact that GLAAD’s  news stories of the week was Neil Patrick Harris’s “tranny” slip and British soul singer and songwriter Marsha Ambrosius wining Soul Train’s “The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award”for her Record of the Year for her hit “Far Away.” Speaks VOLUMES of the 10 Million Dollar a year joke that GLAAD has become.

Well I’ve had enough.  And its time that someone had the courage to look you in the eye and tell you to get to work and do your job. Many give you a pass because you are a LGBT Organization but you know what.  I’m not.  And I hope that many others out there will stop also.  Enough is enough.  It’s about time GLAAD started fighting the hard issues instead of leaving it to everyone else while it reaps the rewards of being our “LGBT media watchdog” while doing none of the real work, because frankly its bullshit.  And if I am going to do your work, then you better start forking over your donations which I can guarantee you will go to better use than what you put them you.

Let’s see 10 million dollars a year, divided by 52 weeks equals $192,307.69 a week.  You can send me a check in that amount for doing your job last week and get off your asses and start doing it yourself.

I’ll help you if you need it.  But YOU not I should be waging these campaigns.

It’s YOUR job.

Thank You and Fuck You – DEMS Introduce DOMA Repeal And Say ENDA Is Up Next. Even Though They Can’t Pass!

As many of you have heard this week Congressional Democrats introduced a bill to Repeal DOMA.  And now Barney Frank says  that he expects ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act  to be introduced in the House “any day now” (Even though Barney has said that for the past two year now)  But what if they do actually introduce a Bill for ENDA?

Should we fall on our knees and express our undying devotion?  Or should we say… “Well gee Dems.  Thank you for soooooooooooo very much for thinking of us introducing BOTH these Bills when they have a snowballs chance in hell of passing now that you lost what little power you have in Washington.”

Was this your plan all along?  Back after Obama took office and you controlled BOTH  the House and Senate was it someones bright idea to focus on Health Care the first two years and push the gays to the back of the bus and then after the 2010 election to introduce LGBT Equality Bills?   I bet you thought that we wouldn’t mind since HRC and “The Task Force” were probably in on the plan.  And as long as Joe Solmonese got his cocktail parties at The White House and Rea Carey had her movie nights with Barack and Michelle that everything would be okay and we LGBTer’s would tow the party line.

But who knew that r spinelessness with Health Care Bill and would handle the GOP and the Tea Party as lamely as you did that it would fuck you up so much did you so that you suffered one of the most embarrassing defeats in political history in the 2010 midterm elections and would lose what little control you had.

Go figure?

And NOW that you realize that you are in dire need of support and the money of the same LGBT people YOU turned your two faced backs in 2008 on to regain the power you lost in 2012. Now you are working for our equality?

Well guess what?  My momma raised sluts not fools.

Just because some idiot strategist  up on the hill thought “Well lets show them we like them, we REALLY like them!  And we’ll introduce bills to repeal DOMA and try to move ENDA forward, they won’t pass of course, but it will look like we are doing something for them and when the Republicans kill them both they’ll be so mad at them they’ll love us again!”

WRONG!

When you had the slim chance of actually perhaps passing BOTH these Bills between 2008 and 2010 you threw the LGBT Community under the bus to focus on Health Care (because obviously no one in Congress can multi-task) And NOW to add insult to injury you introduce two of the most important bills that relate to LGBT Equality knowing full well that they WON’T PASS?

To me this is nothing more than spitting in our communities face.

You want our support? You want our money?  Then you better work girls and make damn sure that BOTH the DOMA Repeal and ENDA pass.  Because if they don’t its just more twist of the knife and the same shit from a party that we can’t trust.

Fuck me once…. shame on you.

Fuck me twice….shame on me.
