Vice President Mike  Pence on Thursday expressed frustration that his wife Karen has been criticized for taking a teaching job at a school that bars LGBT faculty and students. “My wife and I have been in the public eye for quite a while, we’re used to the criticism,” adding that “major news organizations attacking Christian education is deeply offensive to us.”

“We have a rich tradition in America of Christian education and, frankly, religious education broadly defined. We celebrate it,” the vice president said on Thursday. “The freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution of the United States. The Constitution prohibits a religious test for holding a public office and so we’ll let the other critics roll off our back, but this criticism of Christian education in America should stop.”

Obviously Mike Pence finds the the criticism of his wife’s choice of schools much more offensive than his comments on LGBT issues over the years:

Pence said gay couples signaled ‘societal collapse’:In 2006, as head of the Republican Study Committee, a group of the 100 most-conservative House members, Pence rose in support of a constitutional amendment that would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman. Citing a Harvard researcher, Pence said in his speech, “societal collapse was always brought about following an advent of the deterioration of marriage and family.” Pence also called being gay a choice and said keeping gays from marrying was not discrimination, but an enforcement of “God’s idea.”

Pence opposed a law that would prohibit discrimination against LGBT people in the workplace: The Employment Non-Discrimination Act would have banned discrimination against people based on sexual orientation. Pence voted against that law in 2007 and later said the law “wages war on freedom and religion in the workplace.”

Pence opposed the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: Pence favored the longtime military policy of not letting soldiers openly identify as gay. In 2010, Pence told CNN he did not want to see the military become “a backdrop for social experimentation.”

So lets me honest here. What is really more offensive?

Vice President Mike Pence’s wife Karen Pence announced on Tuesday that she would return to teaching art at a northern Virginia elementary school that explicitly bars its employees from engaging in or condoning “homosexual or lesbian sexual activity” and “transgender identity.”

The school Immanuel Christian School in northern Virginia is so extremely anti-LGBT that in its “biblical morality” section, of the the parent agreement it cites the infamous bible passage, Leviticus 20:13, a bible passage that states, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

The employment application for the Immanuel Christian School, which was first reported on by HuffPost, asks applicants to initial a passage stating they will “live a personal life of moral purity.”

“I understand that the term ‘marriage’ has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman,” the passage states.“Moral misconduct which violates the bona fide occupational qualifications for employees includes, but is not limited to, such behaviors as the following: heterosexual activity outside of marriage (e.g., premarital sex, cohabitation, extramarital sex), homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female, sexual harassment, use or viewing of pornographic material or websites, and sexual abuse or improprieties toward minors as defined by Scripture and federal or state law.”

Karen Pence previously worked at Immanuel Christian School for 12 years when then-Congressman Mike Pence served in Washington. Her office announced that she would teach twice a week until May.

“I am excited to be back in the classroom and doing what I love to do, which is to teach art to elementary students,” Pence, who taught for 25 years before becoming first lady of Indiana in 2013, said in a statement. “I have missed teaching art, and it’s great to return to the school where I taught art for twelve years.”

Perhaps someone should tell Mrs. Pence that the bible also says a woman shouldn’t teach or speak out. Maybe she should keep her bigoted ass at home where it belongs.
