#TalkLikeAPirateDay – WATCH: “Gay Pirates” Love Song by Cosmo Jarvis – Music Video

This has to be one of the best, if not the only song and music video’s about gay pirates.  It’s simply brilliant and beautiful and was written and performed by singer/song-writer Cosmo Jarvis

Jarvis has made something of a splash in the UK where he has already generated a fair bit of buzz as a singer.  Not only is the subject matter of “Gay Pirates” wildly different from any song out there, but Jarvis also plays the part of the gay pirate in his own video. In addition, he conceived of the video’s concept, and directed and filmed it himself.

Yoho Sebastian!

Back2Stonewall Talks About Gallup’s Flawed LGBT Count on the AlterNet Radio Hour – AUDIO

I was lucky enough to be able to be on the AlterNet Radio Hour this week, hosted by Joshua Holland to talk about Gallup’s recently flawed survey which states that their numbers indicate that only 3.4 percent of the population identifies as LGBT and to also talk about the harm this does to the LGBT community for presenting such unreliable findings.

Also on the show was Jonathan Cohn of the New Republic who talked  about how a Romney victory would redefine what it means to be an American citizen and journalist Jonathan Knefel, who recently returned from a trip to the Guantanamo Bay Naval base to report on the ‘military commission’ proceedings for Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, for  The Nation .

My bit starts at the 50 minute mark.  But if you have the time the entire show is a great listen.

Let me know what you think!

John Barrowman Interviews The Dr. Who Cast (Smith, Gillan and Darvill) At Comic Con 2012 – Video

John Barrowman interviewed Dr. Who’s Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill G4’s Comic-Con 2012 Live Stage talking about what’s next for the time traveling series and how this year’s Con is treating them.

KUDOS to G4 for for using John Barrowman to host this year.  Brazen and unabashedly out and gay Barrowman did not tone down his sexual orientation while hosting the live coverage and did a great job representing gay geeks around the world.  (Especially when he hit on guys in skimpy costumes)

CNN How Low Can You GO? – CNN To Host Insane AFA Hate Group Spokesman Bryan J. Fischer

Exactly how low can CNN go?

This low.

So it seems that a man who makes the following statements is a credible news source to CNN

“Homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler, and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews.” – Bryan Fischer Web post, “Homosexuality, Hitler, and ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,'” 2010

“Homosexuals are rarely monogamous and have as many as 300 to 1,000 sexual partners over the course of a lifetime. … [T]he risk of sexual abuse in a homosexual household is much greater than in a heterosexual household.” – Bryan Fischer Web post, “The Truth about Gay Marriage and Civil Unions,” 2006

CNN should be ashamed of themselves for hosting Bryan J. Fischer and for that matter any of his cohorts in hate  as qualified speakers on any issue.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY!

Contact CNN and tell them to STOP HOSTING HATE!

Director and “honorary bear” Kevin Smith took on the GOP and Rick Santorum last night  during an interview with Piers Morgan yesterday, saying that the right needs to stay out of people’s bedrooms.

Smith also went on to bitchslap Rick Santorum’s attacking porn by saying: “Santorum lost the moment he was like: ‘I’m going after pornography.’ Because for a lot of us, they’re like ‘Buddy? That’s all I got.'”

GEEK BEAR POWER!

Longtime Activist Larry Kramer Talks About Whats Missing In Gay Activism Today

In an interview appearing over at MetroWeekly.  Chris Geidner sat down with , longtime gay activist, novelist, playwright and co-founder of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis Larry Kramer and as only Larry could do, he let it all out about what he believes wrong with “gay activism” today.

Here are  some excerpts of what Larry says:

I remember in ACT UP, everything was so bad all the time that we just sort of had to make it up as we went along, what we were going to do. Because today’s emergency wasn’t necessarily tomorrow’s emergency, or the other way around. People who were in one job one day weren’t there the next, and you were constantly having to educate people.

People always ask me, ”What was it like?” I don’t look back. I look to today and to what we still have to do in the days to come. What we achieved in the past has always been haphazard and more often by luck than by skill……

I know that there’s a lot more sympathy for Obama than I’m prepared to show him. We still haven’t got these things, you know. I don’t consider ”Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” some major victory. It’s a small, dishonest political move that Clinton did to enchain us, and it’s been unknotted. But it’s for a very small percentage of us. Everybody acts as if it’s a major thing for all of us, and it isn’t. And he knows that. It’s been a small gift he’s given us to throw us a bone. The big gifts, he’s not giving us – no one’s giving us. And that hurts. I don’t see that changing…….

I think we should have learned by now that this “pebble at a time” attempt to make right is just that. They’re pebbles. We need bricks. Until we’re ready to throw bricks, we’re not going to get anywhere. You can name any kinds of wonderful things [HRC has] done, but they still have not changed the basic problem: We are not equal. We do not have equality. They do not look at the big picture, they look at the small picture. As does every other gay person, who is just happy to go home at night and go back into their state of denials.

It’s a very, very passive population, and that is our great tragedy. I love being gay, I love gays. It hurts me to say this. These are all lessons that I’ve learned painfully since 1981, but until we learn to fight back we get what we deserve.

BRAVO LARRY KRAMER!

The interview at MetroWeekly is one of the most forthright, honest and brillant interviews I have seen with Kramer

Bravo Chris Geitner, MetroWeekly and Larry Kramer

PLEASE head over to METROWEEKLY and read the entire interview.

Larry Kramer is a gay hero and in my opinion 100 percent correct and we all should listen to his words.

And on that note I would like to leave you with what Kramer says about the Human Rights Campaign:

KRAMER: I think HRC is the dregs. I think it’s the toilet of the gay movement…..What more can be said? I find them useless, and I find them perpetuating con jobs on all of us. Ass-kissers extraordinaire.

“Kids In The Hall” Comedian Scott Thompson’s Advice To Bullied Youth: “Grow A Pair”

In an interview with PrideSource openly gay actor and comedian Scott Thompson best known for his work as one of the “Kids In The Hall” comedy group talks about hs carrer, Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, his bout with cancer, how “boring” being gay has become and has interesting advice for bullied teens.

PrideSource:  You’ve addressed bullying before, specifically how the It Gets Better campaign is basically a lie – it might not get better, you say. What would you tell bullied kids then?

Thompson:  Grow a pair. Here’s the thing: The world is not kind to us; it never really will be. The gay male is always going to be at the bottom. I believe the things that happened to me as a child scarred me terribly, and I wish somebody would have helped me with some of the things that happened. But you have to fight back. So much of these bullying campaigns are part of the trend that we were just talking about – the recasting of gay men as eternal victims and it’s like, fight back! Fathers should start teaching the boys how to punch. He does that to you, here’s what you do: You fucking punch him in the face.

You can read the entire interview with Scott over at PrideSource.  (Bring a stiff drink)

In the meantime.  PLEASE feel free to comment

GQ Apologizes To Dustin Lance Black Over “Did He Hit On You?” Taylor Lautner Question

Taylor Lautner naked

In a recent issue of GQ Australia a writer doing an article on Taylor Lautner asked whether or not  Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant, who are both openly gay, hit on him during a recent dinner together where Lautner replied, “No, definitely not. I think they know I’m straight. But they’re great guys. They’re a lot of fun.”

Dustin did not take that question well and responded with this posting on his blog

“Really Mr. GQ writer? I’m curious, will you be asking all of the handsome actors I’ve ever had the privilege of working with or meeting if I made passes at them as well?” I’d love to be there when you ask Sean Penn that same question. Or, Mr. GQ writer, were you projecting your own unprofessional desires onto me and Gus

Above and beyond this clear attack on my character, I’m shocked that GQ would allow their writer to lean on the scurrilous, outdated stereotype that gay men are by nature sexual predators. I mean, would you have asked this same question if it were Diablo Cody and Kathryn Bigelow at dinner with Mr. Lautner?

Leaning on lies, myths and stereotypes about gay people is hateful, harmful and outdated. It’s not the 1950s anymore GQ, it’s 2011 and it’s time to grow up.”

SNAP!

Well GQ has issued an apology (via it’s Facebook page not it’s website or print magazine of course) stating:

“We’ve seen some of the comments floating around regarding our recent interview with Taylor Lautner and apologize if anyone was offended by anything in the article.

It certainly wasn’t our intention to paint anyone in the story as a sexual predator. The point we were actually trying to push was that Taylor is irresistible to virtually everyone – regardless of sexuality or gender. Hence the film crew cheering at his shirtless scenes while shooting ‘Twilight’, and Mark Wahlberg deeming him better looking than Leonardo DiCaprio.”

Well I guess that’s something at least.

Perhaps GQ Austrailia never got the memo that GQ is the “Gayest Non Gay Magazine” and 10.39 percent of it’s male readers are gay or bisexual

Personally I think Dustin Lance Black is hotter than Taylor Lautner any day of the week!
