World Swimming’s Governing Body (FINA) BANS Trans Athletes From Women’s Events.

World swimming’s governing body (FINA) has adopted a new “gender inclusion policy” on Sunday that only permits swimmers who transitioned before age 12 to compete in women’s events. The organization also proposed an “open competition category.”

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health just lowered its recommended minimum age for starting gender transition hormone treatment to 14 and some surgeries to 15 or 17. But 12 is unheard of and basically shuts out all trans competitors.

FINA’s new 24-page policy also includes proposals for a new “open competition” category.

FINA members voted 71.5% in favor of the new policy.

Elsewhere British Rowing is reportedly set to dramatically abandon its contentious policy on transgender athletes on Thursday – in a move that will restrict the women’s category solely to those who were born female.

Via Mediate: “Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas and declared that marriage is between a man and a woman. Attendees gave the right-wing authoritarian a standing ovation in response. “Hungary shall protect the institution of marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” he said to applause. “Family ties shall be based on marriage or the relationship between parent and children. To sum up, the mother is a woman, the father is a man, and leave our kids alone. Full stop. End of discussion!”

Orban also claimed with a straight face that Christian politicians can’t be racist, ignoring, well, you know. History.

Bloomberg Eqaulity is reporting that the European Union will formally announce legal action, known as an infringement procedure against the countries of Poland and Hungary for its horrific treatment of it’s LGBT citizens and it’s so-called “LGBT Free Zones.

The announcement may be as soon as next month.

Towns and provinces across Poland have declared themselves “free of LGBTQ ideology” to prevent pride parades and other gay-friendly events from going ahead. As of the middle of last year, almost a third of municipalities in the Catholic country of 38 million people had adopted the declaration, often after lobbying from ultra-conservative groups.

Several Polish courts have ruled that the measures are unconstitutional and discriminatory — and while the declarations are legally meaningless, they have fueled fear and discrimination.

ILGA-Europe, a Brussels-based charity, says Poland is the worst place in the EU for LGBTQ people. During last year’s election campaign, President Andrzej Duda referred to homosexuality as a “foreign ideology” that’s “worse than communism.”

In an interview with conservative weekly Sieci published on Monday, Polish Education Minister Przemyslaw Czarnek praised the the draconian anti-LGBT regulations of countries such as Hungary and Russia.

“This law states that school lessons touching on questions of sexuality must not promote gender reassignment or homosexuality,” he was quoted as saying.

“We should copy these regulations on Polish soil in their entirety!”

The European Commission  letter sent to Budapest, Hungry informing the country last week that it was taking legal steps against the bill because it discriminates against people based on their sexual orientation.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Health and Human Service Secretary Alex Azar joined representatives from the anti-LGBT countries of Brazil, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, and Uganda on Thursday to launch the anti-LGBT/ anti-abortion “Geneva Consensus Declaration on Promoting Women’s Health and Strengthening the Family.”

Pompeo and Azar have been working for at least a year and a half to mobilize Thursday’s signing of the Geneva Consensus seeking to reverse the Obama administration’s U.S. foreign policy which supported reproductive rights and LGBT equality.

The anti-LGBT agenda of the declaration reaffirms that “the family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the state.” Hungary’s Minister of State for Family, Youth and International Affairs Katalin Novák denounced international forces that she charged were trying to “weaken the traditional family” through a “culture of indoctrination and preaching”, “gender ideology,” and sex education.

Novák added that the right-wing anti-LGBT governments of Hungary and Poland are playing a leading role in promoting and strengthening the “traditional family.” Uganda’s health minister, Jane Aceng, criticized international pressure to support policies that “may be contrary to our values” and called for “due respect for our values and sovereignty.”

The Geneva Consensus Declaration event was a culmination of the Trump administration’s intensive efforts to build opposition to any international recognition of LGBT rights and a woman’s right to choose an abortion. Pompeo and Azar have been working on developing this new coalition for about a year and a half.

A new Coca-Cola advertisement running in Hungary that include images of same-sex couples kissing and holding bottles of Coke is facing backlash from anti-gay Hungarian politicians and conservative activists.  The ads can be seen at train stations and elsewhere in the nation’s capital, according to several local media reports.

Coke launched the “Love is Love” campaign in Hungary days ahead of the progressive Sziget festival, which is scheduled to kick off in Budapest this week. The posters contain slogans, such as, “Zero Sugar, Zero Prejudice.”

István Boldog, a conservative member of the Hungarian parliament and a Fidesz party leader, has called for a boycott of Coca-Cola products until the ads are removed.

The country currently recognizes legal unions for same-sex couples, but the Fidesz party and its leader, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, oppose the legalization of same-sex marriage.

An online petition calling for a boycott and for local officials to ban the ads has reached about half its goal of 50,000 signatures. There is speculation that the many of the signatories are fake.

“Until now, large companies in Hungary have not advertised with openly gay content and messages. Do not be illusory, this is a test,” a translated version of the petition states. “If Hungarian society accepts this, there will be more and more steps. Posters, commercials, films, rainbow products, etc. And as we continue to slide down the slope, it will become increasingly difficult to stop.”

Cola-Cola has no intention of removing the ads and responded to criticism of the campaign: “We believe that both heterosexuals and homosexuals have the right to love a person the best they can.”

“In our advertisements, posts, and messages, we express the principles we represent, and thus our belief in equality between people.

“We believe that in a world based on these values, everyone can live freely, happily. The right to love and be loved belongs to everyone.”

HUD Secretary Ben Carson To Speak At WCF International Convention Of Anti-LGBT Hate Groups

Each year, anti-LGBT hate group World Congress of Families holds a major annual summit, in addition to smaller regional gatherings. The summit often attracts around three thousand people, and it’s held in major cities around the world.

This year, the eleventh annual gathering is slated for May 25 through 28 (with WCF events scheduled May 26 and 27) for Budapest, Hungary with the theme “Building Family-Friendly Nations: Making Families Strong Again,” and already the speakers’ list is shaping up as a who’s who on the anti-LGBT and anti-choice Christian Right.

WCF and its conferences serve as important networking sites for Christian Right activists from around the world, and often include local legislators and religious officials. The Budapest host committee was led by Hungarian government official Katalin Novák, Secretary of State for Youth, Family and International Affairs, which falls under the purview of Hungary’s Ministry of Capacities, headed by cabinet minister Zoltan Balog. – via The Southern Poverty Law Center

Other haters planning to attend include the Alliance Defending Freedom and C-FAM, both of whom advocate for criminalizing homosexuality, anti-LGBT and abortion whack-job  Alveda C. King, and  Austin Ruse.

Homosexuality is legal in Hungary for both men and women. Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is banned in the country. However, households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal rights available to opposite-sex married couples. Registered partnership for same-sex couples was legalized in 2009.

Last year National Organization for Marriage  leader Brian Brownshirt was elected as the president of the World Congress of Families.

Hungarian Man Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison For Sex Slave Trafficking Of Gay Men In The USA

The Miami Herald reports on the case of Andras Janos Vass, who was sentenced today to 11 years in prison for luring of young Hungarian men to the United States and then selling them out as sex-slaves.

Lured to the United States with the promise of easy money, the slender young man from Hungary spent more than a year confined to bedrooms in New York and Miami — forced to have sex with men around the clock.

His captors raped him. One of the ringleaders, who sometimes wielded a sword, threatened him and his family in Hungary with bloodshed. If he slept with enough johns, the traffickers might give him extra food or a few cigarettes.

Even today, the ordeal has left his psyche in tatters, the 24-year-old told a judge on Tuesday. “It’s really hard for me to socialize, to mingle with people,” he testified through a Hungarian interpreter. “I started drinking heavily to try and forget. I lost all my friends.”

His story — and the accounts of two other Hungarian men forced into sex slavery — convinced a Miami-Dade judge to sentence one of the ringleaders, Andras Janos Vass, to just over 11 years in state prison for human trafficking.

Vass, himself was also originally a victim of trafficking and was victimized by the other two men in his group and was forced to marry one.

His punishment marks the first prison sentence in Florida for someone convicted of the human trafficking of gay men. Florida’s tougher human trafficking law went into effect in 2012.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Richard Hersch sentenced Vass to roughly the bottom of the sentencing guidelines — just over 140 months in state prison.

The maximum sentence allowable could have been 155 years.
