A recent headline last week asked the question, “Is it acceptable for Christian business owners to refuse service to gay people?” At first glance, most honest Americans would say, “Of course not!”

This was our reaction as well, because in our mind we could easily replace the words “gay people” with any number of other folks and answer the question the exact same way: “Of course not! If you’re in business you should serve everyone.”

But this response doesn’t actually answer the real question, which should be, “Is it acceptable for Christian business owners to be forced by government to service ceremonies, events or messages that are against their beliefs?”

You see, this conversation or debate over religious liberty has been framed to suggest Christian business owners are refusing to serve gay people in this country—when in actuality nothing could be further from the truth.

Religious objections in the marketplace have nothing to do with refusing to service people. Rather, they have everything to do with forced participation in ceremonies, messages and events that are against believers’ consciences.

In our own business, we’ve sold more than 20,000 homes in 14 years across 35 states in this country, and never one time have we refused service to gay people—not once. This is the same story for nearly every Christian business owner in America.

Discrimination against gay people simply does not exist. To say otherwise is disingenuous at best and misleading at worst. Yet the headlines continue, blurring this critical distinction as masses of people are led astray on the issue. – Charisma News

For those who need a reminder of who these two  soon to be found incestuous sex tape brothers are.  They are the sons of crazy certifiable nutjob  “Pastor” Flip Benham  of North Carolina who regularly shows up at Pride events to scream abuse over a megaphone. The bros came to national attention after pitching a decorating pilot to HGTV which got shot down when the it was exposed that the two were anti-gay activists.  

They have been playing the martyr card ever since.

Making a career out of their anti-gay “Christian” stance.  Smacked down and never-were HGTV wannabees Jason and David Benham talked about they, with the help of a pair of Chicago Cubs baseball tickets turned a gay man straight during during their National Religious Broadcasters convention speech

“We had so many people from the gay community reaching out to us and one man in particular from the city of Chicago reached out — and he said things to me that made me lose my appetite. But I simply responded in love.”

“After a little conversation back and forth, I found out he loved baseball … and I got him tickets to a Cubs game. He shot me a Facebook post and said, ‘I was not expecting that — and I’ve been thinking a lot about this. I’ve chosen to walk away from my lifestyle.’”

See that.  One night with the Benham boys is enough to turn a gay man straight.  But not for the reasons that they are stating.

NOTE:  In two days the Benham Boys will be holding a hate rally in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina protesting against a proposed LGBT rights ordinance.

Ex-HGTV Benham Twin’s Father “Pastor” Flip Benham Screams Insults And Disrupts Same Sex Weddings In North Carolina

So-called “Pastor”Flip Benham, father of the anti-gay tow-headed twins who were booted the HGTV network after their homophobia and bigotry were exposed , joined two other “Christian” protesters over the weekend to scream insults at same-sex couples  marrying outside a North Carolina courthouse.

Matt Comer at Q Notes reports:

Three anti-LGBT protesters were present outside the register’s office, including well-known street preacher and convicted stalker Flip Benham. He interrupted several couples’ weddings as supporters held up a large rainbow flag to block his view. Another protester waved a bible in the air as he screamed several profanities and vulgarities. He was asked by sheriff’s deputies to tone it down or leave. He opted for the latter. Despite the protesters, those gathered celebrated at each of the several weddings held outside the register’s office.

Nothing screams “Christian” more than waving a bible and yelling Fuck You!

David and Jason Benham who have become the folk heroes du jour after Cliven Bundy for teabaggers and  Religious Right, this week proved their “non-hate” of gay people by being guests on the Family Research Council anti-gay hate group’s radio program Washington Watch..

The Benham’s who’s Home and Garden TV network was dropped before it even began  after Right Wing Watch reported on the anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-Islam activism of the brothers. This week the Benham boys have clearly decided to make the most of their 15 minutes of fame, going from one talk show to the next to decry the “lies” that were told about them – without ever identifying those “lies” – to denounce efforts to “silence” them, and to declare their “love” for gay people culminating with an interview on white supremacist and anti-gay hate group leader Tony Perkin’s radio show.  Perkins, who has bemoaned “cultural elites” who want to “silence” and “bully” people like the Benhams, recently said that pro-gay-equality Christians don’t deserve the same legal protections as he does because “true religious freedom” applies only to those with religious views that align with those of the political Right.

Mike Rogers, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Raw Story, and well know LGBT blogger and gay rights activist in Washington, D.C. filled in for Ed Shultz yesterday on his nationally syndicated radio show The Ed Shultz Show and “flipped” the tables on ex-HGTV employees Jason and David Benham who played the victim card, blamed the gay agenda, and not only invoked the name of Andrew Sullivan for protection but then proceeded make a bigoted statement by calling Sullivan “one of your people”

Now that HGTV has decided not to move forward with a reality TV show starring christainically twisted twin brothers Jason and David Benham, who have compared gays to Nazis and warned marriage equality will destroy society. Immediately, of course, the Religious Right and the boys have drummed up the “persecution” excuse and are running wild with it.

Anti-gay commentators including Laura Ingraham, David Limbaugh, Erick Erickson, Bryan Fischer, Ralph Reed, Todd Starnes, Peter LaBarbera and Janet Mefferd — along with groups including the Family Research Council and Faith Driven Consumer — have all criticized HGTV for axing the show within the past 24 hours.

“Porno Pete” LaBarbera who has the originality (and ass) of a loaf of soggy white bread appeared on Mefferd’s radio show today, where the two charged (falsely) that HGTV’s cancellation of the show  undermined the the twins “freedom of speech”.

Even Pat Robertson who has been around hating since Noah set sail (The original, NOT Russell Crowe) called the cancellation “outrageous” and a sign that society is no longer “built around the Bible.” “Good grief, isn’t there supposed to be some freedom? Aren’t we supposed to have a First Amendment?”

David Benham and his brother Jason said in a statement this moring that the controversy over their show was a result of “lying” and misinformation: (Even though its all very well documented on the internet, video and newspapers.)

“The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is; have we shined Christ’s light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying. Over the last decade, we’ve sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views. We were saddened to hear HGTV’s decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it.” – David and Jason Benham, in a statement published this morning by USA Today

Actually they’re listed as contacts for Operation Save America so they are MOST DEFINITELY LYING about their hate for gays.

HGTV Announces Then Cancels Homophobic Twin Brothers Design Show All In 24 Hours

Yesterday HGTV gave the thumbs up to Flip It Forward, with twin brother realtors David and Jason Benham helping families transform a fixer-uppers into dream homes.

But it was then soon discovered that the boys are the sons of reactionary preacher Flip Benham, a homophobe who blames 9/11 on abortion and protests outside mosques. And it appears these rotten apples don’t fall far from the tree.

At a prayer rally in 2012, David Benham preached on the importance of fighting reproductive choice, homosexuality and other modern ills:

“We don’t realize that, okay, if 87 percent of Americans are Christians and yet we have abortion on demand; we have no-fault divorce; we have pornography and perversion; we have a homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation; we have adultery; we have all of the things; we even have allowed demonic ideologies to take our universities and our public school systems while the church sits silent and just builds big churches.”

Brother Jason apparently helped organize the rally.

David also campaigned for North Carolina’s Amendment One, which successfully placed a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions in the state:

“You know, we just fought for Amendment One, which was a constitutional amendment that simply said, this is exactly what the amendment said is the only legal marriage in North Carolina was between a man and a woman. We received—it was such a battle in North Carolina, it blew me away.”

David also leads protests outside of abortion clinics where he praises demonstrators for taking a stand at “the gates of hell” and confronting the “altars of Moloch.”

In a 2012 blog post on Operation Save America’s website, David Benham compared the fight against marriage to opposition to Nazi Germany.

“If evil is being accepted and appreciated at the national level, aggressive Christian men must lead the charge against it,” David Benham wrote. “In the late 1940s England realized this truth with Neville Chamberlain’s Policy of Appeasement and the Nazi regime. Chamberlain thought he could somehow ‘appease’ the fuehrer, yet Winston Churchill aggressively stood against this policy and proclaimed that they must kill Hitler and destroy the regime in its entirety. It wasn’t long before Chamberlain’s ‘politically correct’ policy fell flat on its face, and Churchill – the more aggressive man – took the reins and joined America in defeating the beast.”

Father Flip Benham was convicted in 2011 of stalking a Charlotte, N.C., abortion provider and sentenced to 18 months probation.

Now after thousands of complaints about the two bigoted and hateful brothers HGTV has canceled the twisted twins show.

BRAVO to HGTV for doing the right thing.

Why The Blackout Of TV Coverage Of Same Sex Marriage At The Rose Bowl Parade?

Gay Marriage Rose Parade

On New Year’s Day Aubrey Loots and Danny Leclair became the first gay couple married atop the AIDS Healthcare Foundation float in the Tournament of Roses Parade.  But none of the millions of television viewers who watch the parade in over one hundred countries were able to see it due to every television station ignoring it.

So called “christians” wept and gnashed their teeth in the days leading up to the wedding.  But as the marriage took place hundreds of pectators cheered, providing a mass affirmation for the couple, but not everyone present was supportive of the couples marriage or of the lgbt community.

Several television stations filming the parade cut away from the float, major stations like NBC, ABC.  And even those cutie Canadian twins  Drew and Jonathan Scott of HGTV’s  Property Brothers who were covering the parade for the channel talked about the float itself, but did not mention the historic moment that had taken place just minutes before

None of the television stations have given any reason as to why they cut away or didn’t announce the couples marriage and they won’t unless we ask them.

Contact NBC, ABC, and HGTV, via Twitter and ask them why they ignored a historical event in LGBT history.
