“Until this morning, one signature was all that stood in the way of Hawaii and same-sex ‘marriage.’ That all changed at a private ceremony, when Governor Neil Abercrombie (D) made the law redefining marriage official. While some in the state cheered the move, still more are bitterly disappointed — including lesbian state representative Jo Jordan (D). During the hearings, when she hadn’t stated her position, Jordan says that she expected ‘to get blasted by the religious community.’ Instead, pastors and faith leaders stunned her with their outpouring of thanks just for listening. The people who were truly hostile, Jordan says, were her own LGBT community. It doesn’t matter who you are, homosexual activists will harass anyone who isn’t one hundred percent sold out to their radical agenda to remake society. Unfortunately, Jo Jordan found that out the hard way. Hopefully, her story will help dissuade others from trying to appease the extreme Left on marriage.” – KKK-affiliated and Kard Karrying Konservative Family Research Council hate group leader Tony Perkins.
As for Jo Jordon. THIS is your legacy you piece of shit. Tony Perkin’s Pin-Up Dyke and its well deserved after you turned on your own community. Live with the disgrace Jordan. Hopefully the LGBT community on the big isalnd shuns you.
State House Democrats have met over the past two weeks to count votes and determine if support existed to pass a measure. Senate Democrats are scheduled to meet later this week, although leaders have said they have enough votes to pass a bill recognizing same-sex marriage in Hawaii.
Abercrombie had previously said he was waiting for a clear signal from the Legislature before calling the lawmakers back for a special session. Last week, he said he believed he had all the information he needed to make his decision.
Abercrombie also added that it is time for this to session to happen stating: “Every variation on a view with regard to the issue of marriage and equitable treatment for those engaged in marriage has been aired, has been analyzed, has been discussed. No one has been left out or has been marginalized in the process to this point.”
If passed Hawaii would be the 14th state to offer marriage equality.
Thw Hawaii, anti-gay “christian charity” group The Hawaii Family Forum for its “excessive lobbying” against civil unions last year in the Aloha State.
“The nonprofit group reported spending $125,695 on lobbying last year, a huge jump over the zero dollars it said it spent on lobbying in 2008. The change comes after at least two complaints were filed with the Internal Revenue Service about the forum’s extensive political activities. ‘This tax form just confirms what we had suspected, and that is that they engaged in excessive lobbying, that they have no charitable programs, that they are 100 percent a lobbying organization,’ said Holly Huber, who filed a complaint with the IRS in June on behalf of Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church. ‘They should not be a tax-exempt nonprofit charitable organization. They are a political action group.’ Francis Oda, president of Hawaii Family Forum, and James Hochberg, an attorney for the nonprofit, did not return calls yesterday afternoon for comment on the tax return.” – The Star Advertiser
Great News! Now let’s go after the Roman Catholic Church, Mormon Cult and Southern Baptist Convention. And while we ae at it the religions tax-exempt status be revolked (Yes, I’ve been accused of living in a fantasy world.)
Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle, who vetoed a bill last Thursday that would granted Hawaii’s gays and lesbians the right to enter into civil unions. (No marriage mind you civil unions) said the legislation had “touched the hearts and minds of our citizens as no other social issue of our day,” and she hoped “that the citizens on both sides of this issue have felt that I’ve treated them with respect and dignity throughout this process,”
“For those people who want to make this into a civil rights issue, and of course those in favor of the bill, they see it as a civil rights issue,” she said. “And I understand them drawing that conclusion. But people on the other side would point out, well, we don’t allow other people to marry even – it’s not a civil right for them. First cousins couldn’t marry, or a brother and a sister and that sort of thing. It really can’t be a civil right if we are restricting it in other cases, and it’s been found to be legal in those other cases, that the restrictions.”
Lingle should also have mentioned the Religious Right is on the march in the Aloha State, and that may have influenced her and helped strengthen her homophobic and bigoted personal arttituded
During Q & A, Lingle said that she gave her decision “the dignity it deserves.” but she hopes it doesn’t define her. (Too late there bitch!)
Lingle is one nasty piece of homophobic republican work. Allowing the people to vote on whether or not gays should have the right to marry is the typical cop out and excuse they all use.. If they’d left it up to “the people” back in the 60’s, down here in the white trash south, the african americans would still be sitting at the back of the bus. But apparently it’s still perfectly alright to screw over the gay community.
Hawaii should be boycotted immediately and totally. Remember The Aloha State has been a battleground in the gay rights movement since the early 1990s. A 1993 Hawaii Supreme Court ruling nearly made Hawaii the first state to legalize same-sex marriage before voters overwhelmingly approved the nation’s first “defense of marriage” constitutional amendment in 1998.
And for those of you who say it was Lingle not the people of Hawaii thats total bullshit. Who voted for her to begin with? You have to hit them where it hurts, and that is in their wallets. Stop as much tourism as possible to the islands. Be assured that once yourism takes a hit and business suffers and they begin to exert pressure how easily a new civil unions bill or even a gay marriage bill will fly through Hawaii’s House and be signed by the Govenor.
“I really thought about this more than I have thought about any other piece of legislation,” said Lingle. “It is a subject that has really touched the hearts and minds of everyone in Hawaii.”
Actually Lingle its about fairness, equality, and whats right. Lingle who is not running for re-election has nothing to lose if she sign’s the bill. But if she decides to VETO something as simple as a civil unions bill may her legacy haunt as a hater and homophobe be written in the history books
Aiona said that does not mean the governor will veto the bill that would give all the rights of marriage under Hawaii law to same sex and heterosexual couples.”It will be a potential veto and the governor right now is crafting her decision as to whether of not she will or will not veto that bill. Some, we will find out. The deadline for that is July 6,” Aiona said
Considering that Lingle’s term expires this year and not running again she will have nothin g to lose by vetoing it. . But ine thing is for sure Lingle will go down in and unabashed homophobe and should alwats be treated as such.
Hawaii House of Representatives which approved a civil unions bill last year, yesterday they voted to postpone a new vote indefinitely caving to enormous pressure from so-called “Christian” groups after the Hawaii Senate approved the bill by a veto-proof majority last week.
Some in the state are concerned about the effect this image may have on gay tourism. AND WELL THEY SHOULD BE BECAUSE ITS TIME FOR US TO GET SERIOUS!
It’s just as easy to spend money in states that promote civil rights. Where there may not be many States those in New England (Except Maine)and Iowa which both support Gay Marriage and Gay Rights should be supported by our GAY MONEY and those who don’t support us should not get any.
It’s time to spend our money ONLY at gay/gay friendly businesses and to vacation and spend money in gay/gay friendly States. If anti-gay states and businesses hates queers, they must also hate our queer money.
It’s time to hit the haters where it hurts. Gay Money at Gay/Gay Friendly Businesses and in Gay Friendly States ONLY!
