Gay History – August 24, 79 AD: Mt. Vesuvius Erupts Burying Gay Lovers and Ancient Gay Porn In Pompeii

Gay History: August 24, 79 AD

Mt Vesuvius erupts burying Pompeii and preserving the city forever. The ash preserves homoerotic frescoes that Christianity would no doubt have destroyed had they not been covered. When the artwork was first discovered, people found it so scandalous that much of it was locked away in the National Museum of Naples, where it remained hidden from view for over 100 years. In the year 2000, the art was finally made view-able to the public, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The volcanic ash also saved graffiti found centuries later by archaeologists. One scratching on a wall reads, ” Phoebus the perfume sellers sucks real good.”

Others walls around Pompeii read like a truck stop bathroom, including some colorful gay comments. As they appeared on August 24, 79 AD:

On the bar-brothel of Innulus and Papilio:

Weep, you girls.  My penis has given you up.  Now it penetrates men’s behinds.  Goodbye, wondrous femininity!

On the house of the Citharist below a drawing of a man with a large nose:

Amplicatus, I know that Icarus is buggering you.  Salvius wrote this.

On the basilica:

Phileros is a eunuch!

On the Eumachia Building:

Secundus likes to screw boys.

On the house of Orpheus:

I have buggered men.

Another surprising find in April of 2017 was that two bodies found wrapped in a poignant embrace in their final moments as they were covered beneath molten rock and layers of ash after Vesuvius  erupted which were originally thought to be two women embracing at the time of their tragic deaths has been discovered to actually be two men.

The bodies were originally dubbed “The Two Maidens” when they were first discovered but in a startling discovery this week scientists found the two bodies were actually male – raising speculation that they may have been gay lovers.

“We always imagined that it was an embrace between women. But a CAT scan and DNA have revealed that they are men. “You can’t say for sure that the two were lovers. But considering their position, you can make that hypothesis. It is difficult to say with certainty.” said Massimo Osanna, director-general of the world-famous archaeological site.

The bodies of the “Two Maidens” were discovered in the House of the Cryptoporticus during excavations at the World Heritage site led by archaeologist Vittorio Spinazzola when he was superintendent at Pompeii in the early 20th century.

One of the two bodies is lying at a right angle to the other and seen with his head resting on the other’s chest in search of comfort and perhaps protection.

Extensive anthropological tests of the duo’s bones and teeth have revealed that one of the them was a young man aged about 18 years of age while the second was probably an adult male aged 20 years or older.

“The use of anthropological and DNA research always reveals more,” Osanna said.  “It is a fundamental instrument for scientific knowledge because it gives us certainty in the archaeological field in what would otherwise be only hypothesis.”

“What is certain is that the two parties were not relatives, neither brothers, nor a father and son.” stated Professor Stefano Vanacore, head of the Pompeii research team.

Gay History - March 27: Happy Birthday Bob Mizer Publisher and Photographer of the Athletic Model Guild (AMG)

Gay History – March 27: Happy Birthday Bob Mizer! Publisher and Photographer of the Athletic Model Guild aka. AMG

Once upon a time long ago before there was the internet gay porn or what was considered obscene was extremely illegal and expensive.  8mm and 16mm celluloid loops called “blue movies” were available  but the majority of them were marketed to to a straight male audience.  But then “physique” magazines began to spring up after World War II to every gay man’s (and closeted ones) delight.

Bob Mizer (1922-1992) was the mild-mannered publisher and photographer for Physique Pictorial, one of many such magazines that published “beefcake” photographs under the guise of bodybuilding and health. His photography studio, the Athletic Model Guild (AMG), specialized in men (gay and straight) doing bodybuilding poses or wrestling in pairs. With assistance from his mother, Delia (who created the posing straps), and his brother, Joe, he photographed thousands of men, building a collection that includes nearly one million different images and thousands of films and videotapes.

Thanks to the Guild, Mizer was not only a subversive force in the art world, but also one of the first to push for an openly gay community

But that thin guise — almost as thin as the posing pouch that his models wore — wasn’t enough to keep him from being convicted in 1947 of unlawful distribution of obscene materials and serving a nine month sentence at a work camp in Saugus, California.

Physique Pictorial, Summer 1958.

That setback barely put a dent into Mizer’s career. In addition the Physique Pictorial, Mizer added Young Adonis in 1963 and Grecian Guild Studio Quarterly in 1966. When obscenity laws were relaxed in 1968 allowing full male frontal nudity, Mizer quickly adapted with the times. Through it all, AMG was very much a family affair, with Mizer’s mother (her skills as a seamstress was put to use in creating a line of skimpy briefs and posing pouches) and brother (an accountant) playing important roles in the business. Mizer would photograph thousands of men and take nearly a million different images, influencing artists like Robert Mapplethorpe and David Hockney along the way. He also produced over 3000 film titles from the 1950s to the 1980’s, which mostly consisted of film (and later, videotape) of his photo sessions.

Bob Mizer died in 1992, and AMG went dormant for a while. But under new ownership, Mizer’s archives are being cataloged and digitally remastered. Mizer never thought of himself as an artists, but his work has garnered a significant re-appraisal. The Los Angeles Times wrote in 2004 that “Mizer’s pictures are historically important because they capture a time, place and attitude so vividly that it still seems to be with us. His photographs are inspiring because they were not made to fill a market niche that already existed. Instead, they created the niche and then filled it with aplomb.”

PLAYGIRL Magazine to Relaunch Next Week After Years Absence.

PLAYGIRL Magazine to Relaunch Next Week After Years Absence.

PLAYGIRL magazine originally published for women but who also had a large gay fanbase will relaunch next month after a four year absence.

The (ehmm) legendary publication which ran from 1973 to 2016 will relaunch is this coming Monday, October 26.

Playgirl‘s new editor Jack Lindley-Kuhns has said that he” “will unveil a modern mold” for the magazine this month — a mold that looks beyond a simple state of undress. Sure, the infamous centerfold will make its comeback, but in a far more decadent way.

Playgirl, according to their new publisher, “represents an open message that eroticism has no gender right now, and no sexual tendency, and Playgirl is pure eroticism on paper to take home. It’s a fantasy. The magazine was focused on the idea of desire, but desire in every topic they touch—in the environment, health, politics. It’s a magazine about desire.”

Playgirl’s Vol. 1, No. 1 appeared in June 1973, featuring Lyle Waggoner as the centerfold. Other early centerfolds included George Maharis, Don Stroud, Christopher George, Fabian Forte, Peter Lupus and professional athlete Jim Brown.

There has been no word about who the first centerfold will be.

In an interview Higgins said that he got into the porngraphy business because gay porn movies were “so bad” in the mid 70’s that he decided to begin making them himself.

In 1978, Higgins had his premises raided and was arrested. Although the charges were later dropped, Higgins decided to go on a “world tour” looking for a better legal environment for his films.

First he went to Australia, and then on to Thailand, and while he was happy with the product, but didn’t see any future opportunities there.

Ultimately, Higgins ended up in Amsterdam and also Prague where his European distributor was located.

Photographer and Back2Stonewall reader David Jarrett:

He (Higgins) lived in an apartment at 50 Zborovska, Prague 5.   Higgins opened Drake’s Club Prague in 1993 at 50 Zborovska.   Prior to that, Michael Genger opened up American Club (or America) in 1989, which he sold to Higgins in 1993.   Higgins changed the name.  Drake’s is also listed in a 1996 gay guide at 5 Petrinska (same building),  Around 2013, Higgins sold Drakes to Travers Davies.  Higgins had a porn shop business in Amsterdam in the 1980’s, before he moved to Prague.

Drake’s has a variety of activities, including male hustlers, food and drink, dark rooms, glory holes, porn video cabins, porn video rooms, and an extensive dungeon and labyrinth in the basement for S&M activities.

Higgins also had a porn studio in the same building.

Higgin’s first film, “A Married Man” starring Jack Wrangler, was produced in 1974. He had since produced over 140 internationally distributed titles. His films have won several Grabby Awards and he is in the GayVN Awards Hall of Fame. Higgins was also the founder of the film production company Catalina Video.

Gay Porn Actor Jake Porter Stands Up For Mike Pence

Andrew Christian underwear model and porn actor Jake Porter from that “In Front of my Salad” porn meme posted now-deleted tweets defending anti-LGBT Vice President Mike Pence after out figure skater Adam Rippon declined to meet with Pence because of his well-documented support of gay conversion therapy”

Porter is actually known for his  support for Trump during his campaign for President of the United States  Porter known known previously under the stage name Jacob Ford, has also posted racist comments and declared [Link NSFW] that police brutality of blacks and other minorities had “absolutely” nothing to do with race and was instead a construct of the “liberal media.” and that so-called “Christians” should be allowed to discriminate against members of the LGBT community.

Porter also threw a fit when Twitter banned Milo after his tweeting of some Leslie Jones hate speech. Porter argued that Twitter’s ban of Milo was in violation of his right to, of course, free speech.

First Colby Keller and now Jake Porter the question is why do so many porn studios continuing working with such deplorable performers?  After all pretty faces and big dicks are not hat hard to find in the porn industry.

And in all honesty. No one really looks at their faces.

80’s Gay Music Composer Patrick Cowley’s Final Gay Porn Soundtrack To Be Reissued

For those of you who don’t know Patrick Cowley was a gay disco and Hi-NRG dance music composer and recording artist. Besides Giorgio Moroder, he is often credited as a pioneer of electronic dance music of the 1980’s.

Cowley met San Francisco-based musician Sylvester in the late 1970’s. Sylvester had asked Cowley to join his studio band after hearing some of his early synthesizer recordings. He played synthesizer on Sylvester’s 1978 album Step II which included the hits “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” and “Dance (Disco Heat)”. In addition he wrote “Stars” and “I Need Somebody To Love Tonight” from his 1979 album Stars. Cowley also joined Sylvester’s live band and joined him on several world tours.

In 1979 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70s to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick’s songs in-sync with the film scenes. The result was the VHS collections “Muscle Up” and “School Daze” released in 1979 and 1980.

Cowley’s own hits included “Menergy” in 1981, a celebration of the gay club scene, and “Megatron Man”, which hit #1 and #2 respectively on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1981.  A collaboration with Sylvester, “Do Ya Wanna Funk”, made #4 on the Billboard dance chart that same year. Cowley also did a 15’45” long remix of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”, which is now a collector’s item. His final album, Mind Warp, was composed as he felt the increasing effects of HIV infection, and its songs reflect his increasing detachment from conventional reality as the disease progressed.

During a world tour with Sylvester in late 1981, Cowley complained of feeling increasingly sick. He was initially diagnosed with food poisoning and sent home by doctors. Weeks later, with his condition only worsening, doctors failed to identify what was wrong with him. At this early stage in the history of HIV and AIDS, misdiagnosis was very common. Cowley was discharged from the hospital after doctors could do nothing more for him.

Patrick Cowley died at his home, in San Francisco, on November 12, 1982. He was 32 years old.

Now almost 35 years later The third installment of his gay porn music trilogy  — Afternooners — is about to be released.

“Afternooners” is the third collection of Cowley’s instrumental songs, recorded in May 1982. These recordings were culled from two 23-minute reels in the Fox Studio vaults. All songs were originally untitled, so the track titles are taken from Fox Studio’s 8mm film loops. This compilation also includes three bonus tracks found in the archives of fellow Megatone Records recording artist Paul Parker and the attic of teenage friend Lily Bartels. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Giorgio Moroder,

Afternooners — will be released on Oct. 19 by Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records. The date is special, because that would have been Cowley’s 67th birthday.

Porn Star Colby Keller Is Still A Crackhead Qusiling. Continues To Support Donald Trump

Last October we reported about Colby Keller the pretty on the outside, extremely fucked up on the inside gay porn star who supported and voted for Donald Trump in the November election.

Mel Magazine checked in with Keller now, nearly three months after the election to see if he still felt the same way about the man he helped vote in.

Said Keller:

“I’m a little surprised he’s as aggressive on ‘the wall’ as he said he would be…But I’m not surprised people like Trump and corporate America are going to the lengths they are in a system that’s no longer defensible. They’ll stop at nothing. At least Trump is inspiring people to resist a really corrupt economic system that is fucking us all over.”

After attacking Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, Keller continues, admitting he’s a Communist:

“Things will get a lot worse and that will get us to a point where we need to be…Being a communist in 2017 means delivering better lives for people by collaborating. Competition and letting people who’ve controlled the earth for many years, who are evil and nasty, is not the way to get things done.”

He concludes: “The Democratic Party’s diabolical politics don’t serve the interests of the American people and that’s why [Trump voters] acted out. It’s going to take someone like Donald Trump to get people to overthrow the system.”

Colby just shut up and put something in your mouth and your legs up in the air where they belong.

You are either high, or stupid, or both and obviously don’t really know what a Communism really is.

Gay Porn Star Colby Keller: “I’m Voting For Donald Trump.”

Gay Porn Star Colby Keller: "I'm Voting For Trump."

Colby Keller best known for his pan-American porn project Colby Does America, didn’t leave much room for interpretation when his politics came up in a recent interview with office magazine: “I’m going to vote for Trump!”

I think he’s a destabilizing force. I’m skeptical of him, too, and who exactly is behind Trump. But given that there’s eternal dissent in the Republican Party, that leads me to believe that whatever he represents might be a destabilizing force. And he’s made a lot of overtures to Russia and China, which in some ways could be thought of as an encouraging thing. I don’t support or endorse any of Trump’s policies. I just think it’ll escalate the problem, which is the best we can hope for. I hope at the very least he’d turn the White House into a reality show. America would tune in, right? And then he could do something nice, like give the money to the National Park Service, because they’re trying to defund it.

This isn’t the first time that Keller has spoken out about his political perspective. This June he told the Crass to Mouth podcast he supported Trump.

Suddenly the thought of Colby Keller is utterly unattractive.

Brent Corrigan Lashes Out At James Franco’s Real Life Porn Drama King Cobra: “It’s Heinous and Unsanctioned”

Brent Corrigan Lashes Out At James Franco's Real Life Porn Drama"King Cobra": "It's Heinous and Unsanctioned"

James Franco’s upcoming movie “King Cobra” is billed as a “deliciously dark, twisted plunge into the behind-the-scenes world of the pornography industry,” but not everyone, especially one of the real-life people portrayed in the movie is excited about an upcoming film about the notorious murder of porn producer Bryan Kocis.

The movie, based on actual events  of the January 2007 Dallas Township slaying in which two of Kocis’ rivals in the gay porn industry nearly decapitated him before killing him and torching his house.

James Franco play Joseph Kerekes, an escort and fledgling porn website producer along with his lover and business partner Harlow Raymond Cuadra (Keegan Allen) they begin a quest to steal Kocis’ (Played by Christian Slater and renamed Stephen in the film) star performer, the youthful-looking Sean Lockhart, known by the stage name Brent Corrigan and then things get out of hand.

Kocis’ family was not pleased when they recently learned Hollywood had taken an interest in exploiting their son’s gruesome death.

“He was the victim. … We’re the ones that suffer from it,” Kocis’ mother Joyce Kocis said. “It’s 9½years. It’s just ridiculous.”

Lockhart (Corrigan) is also not happy with the film and has stated that though he was asked to be part of the film, he had no desire to help the filmmakers recreate a “bastardized” version of the truth.

“It’s made. And it’s not about me. It’s Hollywood’s attempt at bastardizing my early years in porn, one man’s murder, blah blah,” Lockhart wrote on his Twitter account under his stage name. “I’ve said it many times before, I’m not about telling someone else’s idea of how events in my life unfolded. … It doesn’t matter what A-list celebrity is involved. The screenplay and content didn’t jive (sic). I passed it up.”

There is no report of how much Franco paid Lockhart/Corrigan for the use of his name.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Lockhart/Corrigan is playing to release an autobiography, detailing his own take on what happened.
