The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Marvel’s new action/superhero movies “Externals” WILL NOT be released in the countries of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar after they complained and demanded that a same-sex kiss scene be removed. In turn Disney/Marvel pulled the release of the movie from these mostly Muslim middle east countries.
Speaking to news.com.au, Angelina Jolie, as longtime LGBT ally who plays Thena in Eternals, said:
I’m sad for [those audiences]. And I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut those scenes out. “I still don’t understand how we live in a world today where there’s still [people who] would not see the family Phastos has and the beauty of that relationship and that love. How anybody is angry about it, threatened by it, doesn’t approve or appreciate it is ignorant.”
Eternals director Chloe Zhao had discussions with Marvel to not make any cuts to the movie in countries that might feign “offense”. Speaking to IndieWire, Zhao said: “I don’t know all the details, but I do believe discussions were had and there’s a big desire for Marvel and myself – we talked about this – to not change the cut of the movie.
The film was given an M18 rating in Singapore, restricting it to audiences of 18-year-old and above. Though the “Deadpool” films also received M18 certificates, “Eternals” is the first title from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be classified at this level, after previous instalments were rated PG or PG13.+
Homosexuality is illegal across much of the region and is punishable by death in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Kevin Biegel, the former showrunner/writer for the Marvel live-action series New Warriors has made public statements accusing Marvel Studios of cancelling the show before it premiered for being “too gay.”
Best known for creating the series Cougar Town Biegel,, took to Twitter last Wednesday night to complain alleging that a homophobic executive took aim at the series for being “very very proudly gay.” before thinking twice and deleting his tweets.
A SINGULAR power that be killed that show, Because it was too gay. A rich, straight, Brentwood turd. He got fired for being vile at his company. We, on the other hand, live.
Biegel didn’t reveal thee exact identity killed the series but given the use of ‘he’ pronounces and the fact that the executive was fired from the company could illuminate who it was that killed the series. While this is purely speculation, one suspect could be Joseph Loeb, the former Executive Vice President of Marvel Television. Loeb stepped down from the company when Kevin Feige was appointed Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment but many saw the decision as him being let go from the company.
This is only the latest in a long line of counter-productive moves from Marvel Studio’s who have in the past been accused of “gay baiting” by the mega hit giant for announcing lesbian, gay, and bisexual characters that never play out their sexuality or have it even mentioned on-screen.
Hey everybody loses it Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes And hey, yeah I know what you’re going through Don’t let it get the best of you, you’ll make it out alive Oh, people like us we’ve gotta stick together Keep your head up, nothing lasts forever Here’s to the damned to the lost and forgotten It’s hard to get high when you’re living on the bottom

My name is Victoria Winters. My journey is beginning, a journey that I hope will open the doors of life to me, and link my past with my future, a journey that will bring me to a strange and dark place, to the edge of the sea high above widow’s hill, a house called Collinwood, a world I’ve never known, with people I’ve never met, people who tonight are still only shadows in my mind, but who will soon fill the days and nights of my tomorrows.
Long before American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries. Dark Shadows, a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971 and has become one of the Top 25 Cult TV series in history.
The series which had a rocky start and was facing cancellation but became hugely popular when vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) appeared ten months into its run. Dark Shadows also featured ghosts, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, and a parallel universe. A small company of actors each played many roles; as actors came and went, some characters were played by more than one actor.
Dark Shadows was distinguished by its vividly melodramatic performances, atmospheric interiors, memorable storylines, numerous dramatic plot twists, unusually adventurous music score, and broad and epic cosmos of characters and heroic adventures.
Although the original series ran for only five years, its scheduling as a daily daytime drama allowed it to amass more single episodes during its run (1,225) than most other science-fiction/fantasy genre series including Doctor Who and the entire Star Trek television franchise.
Dark Shadows also has the distinction of being one of the few classic television soap operas to have all of its episodes survive intact except one, although a handful of early episodes are available only in 16 mm kinescope format. Dark Shadows was filmed LIVE daily.
For a blast to the past all episodes are currently available on Hulu and many on YouTube.
TRIVIA:
Veteran actress Joan Bennett and Louis Edmonds are the only actors to appear in both the first and the last episodes of the series.
For more than a year and a half the characters of “Dark Shadows” used almost every possible phrase to refer to Barnabas Collins (“He’s not alive!” “He’s one of the undead.” “He walks at night but he ain’t alive.”) It wasn’t until the 410th episode that the word “vampire” was actually used on the show.
Bert Convy was considered for the role of Barnabas Collins. (Oy!)
Charlie’s Angel Jaclyn Smith, was offered the role of Victoria Winters when Alexandra Isles exited the show, but she declined. Kate Jackson would later join the cast in a separate role.
The series was ABC’s first soap opera to appear in color, beginning with the August 14, 1967 telecast. Many shows which transitioned to color endured radical set overhauls, but following some screen testing the crew discovered they didn’t have to change a thing.
At least 11 Dark Shadows Actors were gay. Including: Jonathan Frid, Humbert Allen Astredo, Don Briscoe, Christopher Bernau, Joel Crothers, Louis Edmonds, Anthony George, Gene Lindsey, Keith Prentice, Craig Slocum, and Brian Sturdivant
The US Senate on Wednesday voted narrowly in favor of reinstating the Federal Communications Commission’s net-neutrality rules. Though the vote on the measure has been expected for months, its outcome had been uncertain going into the vote. Fifty senators previously declared their support for it — one shy of the majority needed to pass it.
In the end, three Republicans joined with all 47 Democrats and two Democratic-leaning senators to back the measure.
Earlier in the day, the measure overcame a procedural hurdle, portending its eventual outcome. The same three Republicans — Susan Collins of Maine, John Kennedy of Louisiana, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — joined with their colleagues across the aisle to pass a motion to proceed with a final vote. Collins had previously said she supported the underlying measure.
The next step is to get it approved by the House and signed by President Trump, Internet service providers would have to continue following rules that prohibit blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization.
