Liberty Counsel Petitions Supreme Court To Overturn Ban On Ex-Gay Therapy Torture

Liberty Counsel Petitions Supreme Court To Overturn Ban On Ex-Gay Therapy Torture

Via press release from Liberty Counsel hate group leader Mat Staver:

Liberty Counsel filed a petition today urging the U.S. Supreme Court to review King v. Christie, a case that upheld a ban on change counsel which the High Court expressly abrogated last year by name.

New Jersey passed a law banning licensed mental health professionals from providing and clients from receiving any counsel to reduce or eliminate unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors, or identity.

The Court of Appeals found that the law was a content restriction on speech, but created a new “professional speech” category, thus providing less protection and thereby upheld the law. Last year in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra, the Supreme Court gutted the King v. Christie case and a similar case from the Ninth Circuit, Pickup v. Brown.

As Liberty Counsel argued to the Court of Appeals, the High Court ruled that it had never created a “professional speech” category. With the Supreme Court’s rejection of King and Pickup, the therapy bans in California, New Jersey, and other jurisdictions are subject to constitutional challenge.

Twice previously the Supreme Court has refused to hear
Liberty Counsel’s appeals on ex-gay torture, first in 2014 regarding California and then again in 2016 with New Jersey.

Of course that was pre-Kavanaugh and an alleged new precedent set by the NIFLA (National Institute of Family and Life Advocates ) case, which they claim “gutted” earlier rulings, but really doesn’t.

WATCH: "Boy Erased" Trailer Starring: Nicole Kidman, Lucas Hedges and Russel Crowe

WATCH: “Boy Erased” Trailer Starring: Nicole Kidman, Lucas Hedges and Russel Crowe

In the upcoming movie Boy Erased, Lucas Hedges,, stars as Nicole Kidman’s gay son who quietly suffers while trying to come to terms with himself. Directed by the actor Joel Edgerton, the cast is rounded out by Russel Crowe, Xavier Dolan, and Cherry Jones

The film deals with the realities of minors being sent to gay conversion therapy (a practice deemed dangerous by the mainstream psychology community, but still perfectly legal in 37 states). Hedges’s character at first seems like the archetypical good Southern teen. His dad is a preacher, he’s a high school basketball star who catches the eye of the cheerleaders, and seems to be quite popular. Yet through his nervous glances at boys with chiseled cheekbones and hunky models in cologne ads, we’re led to believe he’s harboring a secret. After tearfully confessing his interest in men to his shocked parents, it’s off to therapy with him, played by Cherry Jones, tells him there’s nothing wrong with him but that’s apparently not good enough for his father, so Hedges winds up in a gay conversion therapy camp that is horrible, dark, and abusive.

Notre Dame University Accussed of Being Anti-LGBT, Faces Backlash For Hosting Ex-Gay Speaker

Notre Dame University Accused of Being Anti-LGBT, Faces Backlash For Hosting Ex-Gay Speaker

Notre Dame is facing a huge backlash for hosting author Dan Mattson, an ex-gay speaker on chastity.

In March, Mattson was invited to Notre Dame to affirm same-sex attracted people find healing and fulfillment by faithfully living out the teachings of the Church.

Sponsored by campus group Students for Child-Oriented Policy (SCOP), Mattson’s talk, “Same-Sex Attraction and Catholicism,” traced his embrace of the Faith and subsequent journey out of the gay lifestyle.

In Mattson’s lecture, he emphasized how Catholic teaching awakened him to the “transformative nature of God’s love.”

In a recent interview Mattson stated:

The idea of there being “homosexuals” and “heterosexuals” had never before been conceived when these terms were made up in 1862. From those words, you had to make people to fit those words. New words continue to be invented, and it does reach a level of absurdity. We’re following the course of Descartes, I think therefore I am, and Nietzsche, I will myself to be this way.

We have to see things clearly as they are and give them their right names; we’re experiencing a new Tower of Babel: come, let us make a name for ourselves. You may consider yourself “gay” or “bisexual” or “pansexual” or something else; what you’re really doing is taking on the name of God and declaring “I am what I am.” This litany of sexual identities is a form of idolatry and a rebellion against God.”

In an April 6 op-ed for university newspaper The Observer,  slammed Mattson of painting a “repressive picture of sexuality.”

“Does Notre Dame Fear the Queers?” the article stated and also pointed that Mattson’s lecture had “no basis in biological, psychological or sociological sciences.” and that hi talk was just “his interpretation” of Catholic doctrine.

To justify their position, they pointed to a body of heterodox German, Austrian and Swiss theologians.

Despite Mattson’s confidence in his interpretation of Catholic doctrine, it would appear that actual theologians are not totally in agreement. This is demonstrated in Church 2011, a memorandum signed by 260 Catholic theologians, which advocates for greater acceptance of same-sex relationships. It argues that the Church’s teachings do “not require the exclusion of people who responsibly live out love, faithfulness and mutual care in same-sex partnerships.”

The Observer also claimed that Notre Dame is unsympathetic to students who dissent from Church teaching on homosexuality.

This group “is not allowed to speak out against current Catholic doctrine on LGBT,” they wrote. “Notre Dame has persistently smothered such efforts of student expression.”

Over the past 10 years Notre Dame has been repeatedly accused of anti-LGBT sentiment including the invitation to VP Mile Pence in 2017 to speak at the schools graduation commencement which prompted over 100 students to walk out in protest.

Man In Critical Condition After Shooting At Milo Yiannopoulos Protest at University of Washington – Video

Man In Critical Condition After Shooting At Milo Yiannopoulos Protest at University of Washington - Video

CBS affiliate KIRO 7 reports:

A man was shot Friday night on the University of Washington campus during a protest for a controversial speaker, and the suspected shooter turned himself in claiming self defense, police said.

A large crowd packed the Red Square area of campus Friday night protesting a speech by controversial Brietbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos. Police were blocking the entrance to Kane Hall, and investigators said bricks and paint were thrown at officers.

Medics received the shooting report at 8:26 p.m., after Yiannopoulos’ speech began in Kane Hall, but while a large crowd of protesters remained outside. UW students were alerted to the suspected shooters arrest early Saturday morning. He was being questioned early Saturday morning by UW police, who are handling the investigation.

The shooting victim is 32 and suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen, Seattle police said. He was in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center, and was previously identified by authorities as a 25-year-old.

Despite the shooting Yiannopoulos’ “performance” went on with at one point in the evening him taking out a set of jumper cables to mock criticism of Mike Pence’s support for ex-gay torture.

Milo: “There’s no reason to think it [conversion therapy] doesn’t work. In fact, there are many people for whom it has.”

I think for one think that Yiannopoulos needs to experience the electro-shock aversion therapy before promoting it.

People experience pain for a range of different reasons. Whatever the reason is, it is very important to find a way to find relief, which can be quite difficult. Nerve pain is one of the worst pains to have, mainly because it is generally chronic. Learn more at www.neuropathyreliefguide.com and check out their services online.

BURN!: NY State Lawmaker Proposes ‘PENCE’ Bill Banning Gay Conversion Therapy

In a brilliant “burn” Patrick Burke, a legislator in New York’s Erie County, proposed a bill this week that would ban gay conversion therapy for minors. The proposed law which would only affect Burke’s county, which includes the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The law is named the Prevention of Emotional Neglect and Childhood Endangerment—or PENCE, for short.

Said Burke:

Conversion therapy is an abomination. It is clearly abuse. It’s brainwashing. It does real damage. Even calling it conversion therapy takes the edge off of what it really is.

The Vice President-elect has been a supporter of this, and he’s earned the name. People need to remember this. Mike Pence’s views are extreme. I don’t want them to become normalized. This isn’t normal—none of this is OK. We have work to do.

During his campaign for Congress in 2000, Pence’s platform stated that funds for HIV prevention and care should be redirected toward conversion therapy rather than programs that “celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus”:

“Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”

Conversion therapy—”counseling” that uses psychological, spiritual or physical methods to try to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity—is currently banned in five states: New Jersey, California, Oregon, Illinois and Vermont, as well as in the District of Columbia.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo introduced an executive order in February that banned insurance coverage of conversion therapy as well as prohibiting the practice in all facilities falling under the jurisdiction of the New York State Office of Mental Health. Cuomo’s executive actions came after a statewide bill banning conversion therapy passed in the state assembly but failed to gain traction in the state senate.

Burke hopes if his bill passes in the Erie County Legislature, it could have a ripple effect.

“This could have ramifications throughout at least New York state,”

Israeli Labor Leader Shelly Yacimovich Slams Jerusalem Conference Over Gay Conversion Therapy Panel

Isreal labor leader

Former Israeli Labor leader  Shelly Yacimovich has asked to have her name removed from advertisements for the 12th annual “Jerusalem Conference on Modernity and the State,” after a session on “conversion therapy for those with same-sex tendencies” was on the schedule of the event.  “If there is something that needs to be cured it is homophobia, racism and the hatred of the other. Publicizing my name embarrasses me and my world view,”

The former Labor party leader was meant to take part in a discussion on Israel’s response to the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state  a different session at the Jerusalem Conference, and now has yet to confirm her participation.

In a letter Yacimovich sent to conference organizers on Saturday afternoon, the Labor MK wrote: “Conversion ‘treatments’ are an attempt to ‘cure’ people who are attracted to people of their own sex and gender, as if it was a defect or disease. These imaginary and false treatments in the hands of various and sundry charlatans stem from a primitive and dark world view. It is sad and worrying that in 2015 there is a need at all to explain that there is nothing wrong with attraction to members of your own sex, and the LGBT community are citizens with equal rights that there is no reason to cure them of anything.”

In October 2014, Israel’s Health Ministry issued a public warning against conversion therapies

1974 – Lou Reed Writes “Kill Your Sons” About His Experience Undergoing Gay Conversion Shock Therapy

Lou Reed Bi-Sexual

Not many people today know or remember that legendary singer/songwriter Lou Reed is bi-sexual and that in his childhood his parents put him through electro-shock therapy to “cure” his “gayness“.

Born in 1942 into a Jewish family in Brooklyn, the teenaged Reed was subjected to electroconvulsive therapy to “cure” his homosexuality. His parents ordered this as they were “disturbed by his developing homosexuality.”

Reed wrote about the experience in his 1974 song, “Kill Your Sons” and also is quoted as saying, “They put the thing down your throat so you don’t swallow your tongue, and they put electrodes on your head. That’s what was recommended in Rockland County to discourage homosexual feelings. The effect is that you lose your memory and become a vegetable. You can’t read a book because you get to page 17 and have to go right back to page one again.”

Reed went on to work as a house songwriter for Pickwick Records before finding cult fame with art-rock band The Velvet Underground. Post-VU, he released a succession of acclaimed albums, most significantly 1972’s ‘Transformer’, whose themes of drug use and cross-dressing chimed with the mood of the glam-rock movement spearheaded by his friend David Bowie.

Reed was also a regular patron of the “infamous” Ninth Circle Bar in Greenwich Village, N.Y. in the 70’s and 80’s.

Reed has never “publicly” come out as bi-sexual but his sexual preferences are well-known in the music industry.
