Obama Signals He Might Sign Immigration Bill Without LGBT Inclusion Laws

Obama signing Bill

While the Republican party is warning that if the Uniting American Families Act that would extend the automatic green card privilege granted to heterosexual spouses to the foreign-born partners of American gays, lesbians and bisexuals is injected into the immigration Reform Bill working its way through Congress will be a “deal-breaker for most Republicans.  President Obama on a visit to Central America  Friday he said that he might accept a rewrite of the nation’s immigration laws even if it did not allow tens of thousands of same-sex couples to apply for legal status for their foreign-born partners.

After a series of meeting with Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla spoke to reporters telling them that: I’m not going to get everything I want in this bill,” he said. “Republicans aren’t going to get everything they want in this bill.”  And while Obama stated that recognizing same-sex relationships in the bill is “the right thing to do.” he says it would be premature to telegraph what he will or won’t do before lawmakers send him a bill and would not specify if  would veto the bill without the inclusion of the Uniting American Families Act.

Obama said, the legislation that the bill that has been introduced in the Senate “has the opportunity to do something historic that we haven’t done in decades.” and that the legislation includes his four requirements – border security, restrictions on employers, a legal immigration program and pathway to citizenship – and that he will determine whether to support the legislation based on whether it makes the system better. If there are problems, he said he would attempt to fix them at a later date. “As is true with every bill, we go back at back and fix what’s not there,’’ he said

Will our “fierce advocate” throw the LGBT community and bi-national couples who worked so hard on immigration reform under the bus and sign the bill when it reaches his desk if it does not include Uniting American Families Act?

Only time will tell.

TWO-FACED! – Obama Speaks at Anti-Gay National Prayer Breakfast Sponsored by “The Family”

Obama Has two Faces

Today President Obama and many attended the annual National Prayer Breakfast, hosted by The Fellowship Foundation — a conservative Christian organization more widely known as “The Family.” This secretive organization is known for its global connections to homophobic violence and for supporting legislation around the world that would kill or imprison lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and also has strong ties and connection to the United States based anti-gay hate groups Family Research Council,  American Family Association and the Liberty Counsel.

“The Family” has ties to Ugandan Parliamentarian David Bahati, sponsor of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill moving through the Ugandan Parliament at this moment, legislation better known as the “Kill The Gays Bill”

Writes Heather Cronk of GetEQUAL:

“For another year, President Obama has chosen to set aside his stated values of inclusion in order to attend the National Prayer Breakfast — an event rooted in hatred of LGBT people and covered up by pastries and coffee,” said Heather Cronk, managing director of GetEQUAL and a seminary graduate. “There are so many communities of faith that fully embrace LGBT people and that are rooted in social justice — we really don’t understand why President Obama continues to give his permission for ‘The Family’ to support killing LGBT folks abroad. If the president is looking for ways to publicly demonstrate that he’s a man of faith, he needs to find ways to do so without simultaneously putting the lives of LGBT people in jeopardy. The ‘Kill the Gays’ bill has been moving through the Ugandan Parliament at the very same time that President Obama was speaking to the group supporting it — this practice has got to stop, and the president needs to understand the role he is playing in supporting the execution of LGBT people around the world.”

Despite this assertion of the rights of LGBT Ugandans to live in peace, (and all Americans equally) President Obama continues to attend and, therefore, support this event. Given the fact that President Obama has recently come out in favor of LGBT equality — including references in his inaugural speech and in an interview just days ago on Super Bowl Sunday — we are deeply saddened that the president continues to support this event.”

Integrity thy name IS NOT Barack Obama.

Obama Snubs LGBT Civil Rights Pioneer Frank Kameny, Not Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom

Yesterday, President Barack Obama named thirteen recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  The Medal of Freedom is the Nation’s highest civilian honor given to individuals who have made great contributions to the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

This years recipients included Madeleine Albright, John Doar, Bob Dylan, John Glenn, John Paul Stevens, and Dolores Huerta among others.   But conspicuously absent from this years awards was a posthumous to LGBT Civil Rights hero Frank Kameny who passed away earlier this year.

Frank Kameny, along with Harvey Milk  is “one of the most significant figures’ in the American LGBT civil rights movement history.   In 1957, Kameny was dismissed from his position as an astronomer in the Army Map Service in Washington, D.C. because of his homosexuality, leading him to begin “a Herculean struggle with the American establishment” that would “spearhead a new period of militancy in the homosexual rights movement of the early 1960s”.  Kameny later went on to co-founded the Mattachine Society of Washington, DC, became the first openly gay candidate for the United States Congress in 1973, and stayed actively involved and at the forefront of the LGBT civil rights movement until his death last year on October 11, 2011 at age 86.

From Michael Petrelis at The Petrelis Files:

In death, I thought gay pioneer Frank Kameny would be palatable to President Obama when deciding this year’s Medal of Freedom recipients. Well, our Less-than-Fierce Advocate-in-Chief announced the latest batch of awardees yesterday and Kameny’s name was omitted.

My thinking was that the White House would not risk giving this gay icon the award while he was alive, because he might go off-script at the reception and ceremony for the  honorees and say something to anger the administration, but once he had passed on Obama would give him this award. I was wrong.

Our lame Democratic Party gay leadership at the Human Rights Campaign issued a release lauding Obama choosing longtime gay ally and labor advocate Dolores Huerta as a recipient, and failed to express disappointment that Kameny was not posthumously selected along with Huerta. Foolish of me to even think HRC could praise the president, salute Huerta and advocate for Kameny getting the Medal of Freedom if Obama is reelected.

Not only is it a shame Obama didn’t award Kameny the Medal of Freedom in 2012, it’s equally troubling that HRC and AFER expended no energy and resources fiercely advocating on Kameny’s behalf.

Kameny and his legacy more than deserve to be recognized and included in Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients.

But it seems that in an election year not only is it to risky to sign an executive order against LGBT discrimination in the workplace.  But its even too “controversial” to award one of the most prolific LGBT rights pioneers this country has even seen a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Democratic cowardice at its best, once again.

Obama Throws Gays Under The Bus, AGAIN! – Drops ALL LGBT Health Care Provisions From His New Health Reform Proposal

In an attempt to save movey and kiss moderate and ReTHUHlican ass (The man is an freakin spineless IDIOT) all Gay-related provisions in the original House health Care Reform Bill have been dropped from a new version announced by Barack Obama yesterday that closely resembles the Seante watered down, do nothing version.

From MetroWeekly:

“Most LGBT and HIV activists had supported the House bill because it included key LGBT specific provisions, including provisions. In addition to the data collection, it prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the provision of health care; enabled people with HIV and low incomes to obtain Medicare coverage earlier in the course of their illness; and eliminated the tax that gay employees must pay if their same-sex partners or spouses receive health coverage from their employers’ plan. Straight employees don’t pay that tax but, for gay couples, the coverage is characterized by the federal government as additional income for the gay employee. Tammy Baldwin said Monday she would ‘continue to fight for all of my priorities in the final health care reform bill, including those related to LGBT health.

Fierce fucking Advocate my ass.  That bus we all thought Obama was throwing us under is turning out to be a steamroller.  But I am sure the HRC will spins this as “Don’t worry, the president still has his secret plan for us,” or some sort of shit like that while Joe Solmonese is invited to hear the Cast of “GLEE” sing at the White House Easter Egg Hunt.

The absolute gall and nerve to sacrifice LGBT lives to appease the  Right Wing is just disgusting and not what we voted for and something that we should not stand for.
