Donald Trump Hopes That Americans Will “Grow Numb” To COVID-19 Death Toll Numbers

The Washington Post reports:

Trump’s advisers are seeking ways to reframe his response to the coronavirus — even as the president himself largely seeks to avoid the topic because he views it as a political loser. They are sending health officials to swing states, putting doctors on TV in regional markets where the virus is surging, crafting messages on an economic recovery and writing talking points for allies to deliver to potential voters.

The goal is to convince Americans that they can live (and die) with the virus — that schools should reopen, professional sports should return, a vaccine is likely to arrive by the end of the year and the economy will continue to improve. White House officials also hope Americans will grow numb to the escalating death toll and learn to accept tens of thousands of new cases a day, according to three people familiar with the White House’s thinking, who requested anonymity to reveal internal deliberations.

“They’re of the belief that people will get over it or if we stop highlighting it, the base will move on and the public will learn to accept 50,000 to 100,000 new cases a day,” said a former administration official in touch with the campaign.

Disgusting GOP/Q House Rep Thomas Massie Votes Against Antisemitism Resolution

Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie Doesn’t Believe Cops Are Racist, Says BLM Protestors Aren’t “Educated” or “Articulate”

Republican/Tea Party/Libertarian  Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie said in an interview Thursday that he doesn’t believe there’s a prevalence of racism among police and added that he hasn’t seen “an articulate person” among the millions of people protesting for Black Lives Matter and against police brutality across the United States.

During The Tom Roten Morning Show,  broadcast out of West Virginia Massie said “I don’t think it’s prevalent,” adding that he thinks police “have a few bad apples here and there” with the vast majority of them being “patriotic,” “pro-Second Amendment” and “pro-Constitution. “Occasionally you have a few bad apples, and then the media tries to conflate those circumstances and those actors with every policeman and I think that’s wrong,” Massie said.

Continuing Massie then went on to attack the Americans protesting against rampant police brutality in America against people of color.

What we do need nationally is to relook at our educational system. A lot of them (the protestors) are just violent looters, and lawless criminals at this point because they are engaging in violence. Most of them are young and I just wonder, who are their parents and what did they teach them? And how did they get educated to believe that this is an appropriate response? Contrast it to, you know, what Martin Luther King Jr. did. You know, isn’t there an articulate person among the group who are upset with the way things are going that could step up to the microphone and speak for all the people? I’m not seeing that person.”

Massie, a Pro-Life. Pro 2nd Amendment. Pro-Trump self proclaimed Libertarian who runs on the Republican ticket for Kentucky’s 4th congressional district  is up for re-election in 2020. During his tenure Massie has voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act and co-sponsored the republican anti-gay State Marriage Defense Act

Bernie Sanders: Mike Bloomberg Should Be Barred From Democrat Debates

Bernie Sanders: Mike Bloomberg Should Be Barred From Democratic Debates

Via CBS News:

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said it’s “very unfortunate” a rule change could allow his fellow presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg into the next Democratic debates. The qualifications no longer include a unique-donor threshold.

“That is what being a multi-billionaire is about. Some very good friends of mine who were competing in the Democratic nomination — people like Cory Booker of New Jersey, Julián Castro — work really, really hard. Nobody changed the rules to get them in the debate,” he said on “CBS This Morning” Friday.

“But I guess if you’re worth $60 billion, you can change the rules. I think that is very, very unfortunate,” he added.

Interestingly Bernie Sanders no problems with a rule change that would allow an Independent to run & debate in a Democratic primary.

LIAR IN CHIEF – Donald Trump: I’d Vote For A Gay Presidential Candidate

Via Politico:

President Donald Trump said he would vote for a gay presidential candidate. In a wide-ranging interview on Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera’s podcast, the president also said he thinks it’s possible that American voters could one day elect a gay candidate to the White House.

“I think so. I think there would be some that wouldn’t, and I wouldn’t be among that group to be honest with you,” Trump told Rivera, pointing to Pete Buttigieg’s top-two finishes in both of the first two Democratic presidential contests.

“I think that, yes, I think that it doesn’t seem to be hurting Pete Boot-edge-edge as you say, as you would call him,” he argued, using the phonetic pronunciation that Buttigieg’s campaign has deployed. “It doesn’t seem to be hurting him very much but there would be a group that probably wouldn’t. But you or I wouldn’t be in that group.”

Riiiiiiight.

Equality California Endorses Pete Buttigieg for President

Equality California Endorses Pete Buttigieg for President

The New York Times reports:

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has won the backing of Equality California, one of the nation’s largest LGBTQ membership organizations, and its Nevada partner organization, an endorsement that could give him a boost in critical Western primaries. While Buttigieg is the only openly gay candidate in the race, his endorsement by the organizations wasn’t a lock.

Every candidate was asked to fill out a questionnaire, and the endorsement committee also considered supporting Elizabeth Warren or Tom Steyer, the only Californian still in the race. But Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, impressed the committee with his detailed policies for protecting LGBTQ youth in schools and ending the HIV epidemic by 2030.

“My campaign is based around a shared future of belonging for all Americans, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity,” he said. “President Trump’s attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, especially our trans members, have shown us that the fight for equal rights did not end with marriage equality. I will be the President to continue that fight for equality.”

Every Democratic candidate had the opportunity to fill out a survey from the group.

Amy Klobuchar is the only major candidate who did not participate.

LGBT Civil Rights Activist David Mixner Endorses Pete Buttigieg for President of the United States

LGBT Civil Rights Activist David Mixner Endorses Pete Buttigieg for President of the United States

Longtime LGBT and Civil Rights activist David Mixner has endorsed Pete Buttigieg for President of the United States in an op-ed at Towleroad.

Newsweek once named Mixner the most powerful gay man in America, and he has been a highly regarded leader in American politics and international human rights for over 40 years.

Mayor Pete’s calm disposition will enable him to quietly and immediately correct Trump’s outrageous Executive Orders, regain the respect of leaders around the world, and repair admiration and trust in American institutions. His gentleness is his power. His ability to speak many languages and intellect will reestablish our alliances and America’s place around the globe.

Our nation needs to heal, and we must invite all Americans to share his inclusive vision.

Mayor Pete’s military service in our endless wars overseas will give him a unique perspective in foreign policy and more importantly, earn the respect of those serving currently,  veterans and  leaders at the Pentagon.  His judgement will be sound, not ideologically driven, and in the best interest of America.  Buttigieg is a powerful voice for freedom, human rights and equality.

For LGBT(Q) Americans, he has already shattered the glass ceiling. Any young LGBT(Q) person growing up can now hope to run for President of the United States.

Log Cabin HomoCONS Endorse Donald Trump in 2020 Election

Log Cabin HomoCONS Endorse Donald Trump in 2020 Election

Honestly are we shocked?

Robert Kabel and Jill Holman — who serve as chair and vice chair respectively of self-loathing gay political group the Log Cabin Republicans, r— announced its endorsement of Donald Trump to be re-elected Thursday in an op-ed for the Washington Post.

While the chasm between left and right in this nation continues to grow and even the definitions of “liberal” and “conservative” seem to be up for debate, there is one unambiguous sign of progress: The arc of history for America’s LGBTQ community continues to bend toward equality and inclusion. But even as we celebrate our victories, we know there is more to be done.

Though the visibility of LGBTQ business leaders such as Tim Cook and Peter Thiel is part of a rapidly changing corporate environment, LGBTQ individuals can still be fired just for being gay in a majority of states in America. And while numerous societies have moved to ensure widespread equality for gays and lesbians, our LGBTQ brothers and sisters face persecution in too many countries abroad.

Not all of these signs of change have been equally visible to the population at large. For LGBTQ Republicans, watching the
2016 GOP conventionbefore Donald Trump took the stage was like a dream fulfilled. The distance between that event and Pat Buchanan’s hate-filled exhortation against the LGBTQ community in Houston in 1992 is a powerful measurement of how far we’ve come. Some of the moral leaders who stood with Buchanan back then were still there three years ago in Cleveland, to be sure. But this time, they refrained from passing judgment on gays and lesbians. And in an extraordinarily uplifting moment, Thiel uttered the words for the first time, “I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be a Republican. But most of all, I am proud to be an American.” He was met with thunderous standing applause from the body of the Republican Party. [snip]

And since taking office, President Trump has followed through on many of his commitments to the United States, including taking bold actions that benefit the LGBTQ community.

He has committed to end the spread of HIV/AIDS in 10 years, through the use of proven science, medicine and technology to which we now have access. This scourge decimated a generation of gay men in the United States and continues to inflict pain, suffering and death at home and abroad.

Trump has used the United States’ outsize global influence to persuade other nations to adopt modern human rights standards, including launching an initiative to end the criminalization of homosexuality, which is considered illegal in more than 70 countries. To lead this effort, the president has chosen the highest-ranking LGBTQ individual in the administration, Richard Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany, who brings his experience as the United States’ spokesman at the United Nations to bear on this critical campaign.

In 2016 Log Cabin Republicans declined to endorse Trump. The Republican presidential nominee never met with the LGBT group, which at time was a criterion for its support. (Log Cabin endorsed McCain in 2008 and Romney in 2012 after the candidates met with the organization.)

Chants of "Moscow Mitch" Follow McConnell to Fancy Farm Political Event in Kentucky

Chants of “Moscow Mitch” Follow McConnell to Fancy Farm Political Event in Kentucky

The annual Fancy Farm Picnic started simply as a church picnic 139 years ago. Since then, however, it’s become Kentucky’s signature political event.

Kentucky political candidates from far and wide attend the event to stump speech exchange barbs and throw shade at their party rivals.

But this year national derision followed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell home as attendees taunted the GOP leader with T-shirts, signs and continuous chants of “Moscow Mitch” during his speech.

McConnell, who earlier this week publicly took offense to the nickname calling it “modern day McCarthyism” during a particularity whiny speech on the Senate floor, addressed the issue again Saturday.

Democratic candidate for Treasurer Michael Bowman who isn’t very well known fired back when he took the stage after McConnell.

“It was a little dangerous getting on the stage today because I nearly tripped over the leash that the Russians put on Mitch McConnell,” he said.

Bowman went on, “I see that the senator is no longer here,” he said noticing that McConnell left the event. “I’m sure the Russians needed him more than we did. Probably to teach him new tricks. I wouldn’t know what, he already knows how to roll over.”
