Brad Pitt Pledges $100,000 To Each Of The Four States Fighting For Gay Marriage

Famed actor and GLBT ally Brat Pitt has pledged a $100,000 matching in matching donations  to fight for  same-sex marriage ballot measures in each of the four states that have them on the ballot this  November.

Said Pitt:

It’s  unbelievable to me that people’s lives and relationships are literally being  voted on in a matter of days.

In Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and  Washington, voters will go to the polls to decide if gay and lesbian couples – our friends and neighbors – are worthy of the same protections as everyone  else.

But that’s the system we have and I’m not going to back down from  the fight for loving and committed couples to have the ability to marry. [snip]

So, here’s what I’m going to do. If you make a  contribution to these ballot measure campaigns in the next 24 hours, I’ll double  it – every dollar of the way, up to $100,000.

This is our last chance to  make a difference. If you’re like me, you don’t want to have to ask yourself on  the day after the election, what else could I have done?

Every person’s  right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is enshrined in our  country’s Declaration of Independence, but powerful, well-funded groups are  flooding the airwaves with lies trying to take away those rights from certain  people… and we can’t stand for it.

Brad Pitt and his wife Angelina Jolie have been ardent supporters of GLBT Equality for many years.

(And i don’t care what anyone says he’s still hot!)

Bill Maher Makes $1 Million Dollar Donation To Obama Re-Election Super PAC

Comedian Bill Maher best known for his HBO show ‘Real Time with Bill Maher features a panel of guests that discuss current events in politics and the media has donated $1million to a pro- President Obama’s Priorities USA Action campaign. (SuperPAC)

Maher told viewers that he felt an Obama victory over any of the Republican candidates would be “worth a million dollars,” saying that the donation was “the wisest investment I think I could make,” before encouraging other wealthy people to do the same.

Good for Maher.  As much as we bitch about Obama at this site Obama IS the only REAL choice we have right now. But getting Obama reelected is ultimately not going to be the challenge.  
 
It’s going to be a House without a Boehner and maybe a Senate without the turtle from Kentucky and PROGRESSIVE Democrats in charge for a change.

For those of you who think Bill Gates and Microsoft are evil.  Maybe they really aren’t that evil after all.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today renewed its commitment to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Gates Foundation is giving $750 million through a promissory note—a new and innovative funding mechanism. “These are tough economic times, but that is no excuse for cutting aid to the world’s poorest,” said Bill Gates, co-chair of the Gates Foundation. “The Global Fund is one of the most effective ways we invest our money every year.” Providing funding through a promissory note gives the Global Fund the flexibility and authority to distribute funds efficiently based on immediate needs, leading to greater impact. “By supporting the Global Fund, we can help to change the fortunes of the poorest countries in the world,” said Gates. “I can’t think of more important work.”

Up until now Bill Gates has donated over 29 BILLION DOLLARS to AIDS Education and Research

Lack Of Integrty In The LGBT Community – NYC Pride, Seattle Pride, Twin Cities Pride ALL Acceptted Money From TARGET Corp

While many of us still refuse to set foot one foot inside a TARGET Store and Lady Gaga refuses to sell her wares there it seems that many Pride Organizations in the USA have very little reason to be proud after accepting sponsorship donations from retail giant itself while local Target stores are sponsoring a number of smaller festivals so they’d have enough balloons and booze for their 2011 Pride soiree’s

New York City, Minnesota Twin Cities, and Seattle Pride ALL received money from the TARGET and show very little regret at doing so.

TARGET which is based in Minneapolis Minnesota has always been of their Pride Festivities and Because of Twin Cities Pride’s 501(c)(3) tax status, the organization cannot openly criticize Target or formally join a boycott of the company (but they could refuse the money) and Seattle Pride Board Director Adam Rosencrantz issued just a one sentence statement about TARGETS sponsorship.  “We are glad to see major corporations sponsor events that bring people together in Pride,”

But Chris Fredrick, managing director of Heritage of Pride which runs the oldest and most meaning Pride festival in America the NYC Gay Pride Festival put it more bluntly  “”It was a choice of whether I wanted to take the money, or if another pride would just end up taking it,” he said. “A lot of major corporations support major Republican initiatives. I don’t think it was an anti-marriage donation; I think it was more of a pro-business donation that just so happened to be tied into a candidate that was anti-marriage.”  (At the time HOP was spending TARGETS money on the Gay Pride Parade, TARGET Corp was suing a California gay advocacy group for lobbying for same sex marriage outside its stores.)

We, as a community  NEED to show integrity, and truthfully that has been lacking greatly for many years now.  From GLAAD’s involvement with AT&T to accepting money from questionable corporations which many are boycotting just because they are handing it out and we want more floats and go-go boys at a parade.

Without integrity nothing works. 

How in the world will we ever gain the respect of  others when when obviously as a community we do not respect ourselves.

May 21st "Rapture" Predictor Harold Camping Speaks: Whoooopsie! But Gay Pride Points To The End Times!

HFraud, charlatan and plain ole whack-a-doodle Harold Camping, the California preacher who via his Christian Family Radio stations had convinced a few thousand followers that the Rapture would happen on May 21, finally came out of hiding and spoke about his failed prediction on his Open Forum call-in show.

McCain’s Donates 1 Million Dollars To Gay Friendly Church (McCain’s French Fries, NOT McCain The Senile Homophobe U.S. Senator)

Metropolitan Community Church the gay pioneer church In New Brunswick Canada has received a whopping 1 Million Dollar donation from McCain Foods Ltd

In the 1950’s  Metropolitan Community Church Pastor’s Brent Hawkes, father opened a general store with a grocery in Bath, N.B

 In 1956, Wallace McCain and his brother Harrison incorporated McCain Foods Ltd. and the following year opened their first french-fries plant 8 kilometres from Bath which led to McCain-Hawkes connection.

“I knew his father,” Wallace McCain said “His father had a grocery store five miles from Florenceville

Pastor Hawkes said, that the donation will be used to pay off the church mortgage and also to support program for gay and lesbian refugees to Canada.  With the McCains imput, the church board has laid out a three-year program, including hiring a part-time staff worker, to build its refugee support network.

The donation comes at  the 10-year anniversary of a controversial wedding ceremony Hawkes conducted for two same-sex couples that was a milestone in Canadian civil rights and helped lead to legal recognition of same-sex unions
