Eurovision To Russia: Protect Your LGBT Citizens Or You’ll Never Host The Contest Again

Eurovision Gay Kiss

Showing more integrity and courage than the International Olympic Committee could ever hope for.  The Eurovision Song Contest has threatened to ban Russia from ever hosting another contest over its anti-gay propaganda laws.

Eurovision organizers have demanded they outline guarantees regarding creative freedom of the acts, and the safety of organizers and fans.

Speaking to Gay Star News, a Eurovision spokesman said: ‘As always with any hosting country, we ask for guarantees for security of all the people involved in the Eurovision Song Contest. ‘If Russia wins in the foreseeable future, and they tell us they cannot guarantee the safety of organizers or spectators, we will take action. It is one of the conditions of hosting Eurovision. The safety of our organizers, acts and spectators is our number one priority.’ If they fail to guarantee no gay person would be arrested under the homophobic legislation, like they have failed to do so at the Sochi Olympics in February 2014, then they will be banned from hosting the contest.

Already the country of Sweden has said that they will withdraw if Eurovision is ever held in Russia while its anti-gay LGBT laws are still on its books.

Last years Eurovision Contest held i n Sweden  brought in 1.1 billion Swedish kronor ($177m, €132m) in advertising value alone.

BLOG SWARM UPDATE – More Blogs Join In, HRC Stops Taking Calls And Issues A (Lame) Statement

The awesome (and handsome) John Avarois over at AmericaBlog Gay who is one of the main bloggers behind BlogSwarm has been follwing the  developments all day.  Including the the addition of more bloggers both gay and straight who have joined in the push, the fact that HRC has stopped answering thier phones, and that the HRC has issued the following statement:  (Which at the end it has the nerve to ask you to join them!)

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has to be repealed this year. That has been the Human Rights Campaign’s position from the start, and at this point there is no one in the White House who does not know it. We and the community to whom we are accountable agree: This is the year.

We firmly support including repeal in the annual Department of Defense Authorization bill, and have not only indicated as much, but continue to make that case, all while working to gain support for the Military Readiness Enhancement Act….

We have been lobbying the White House relentlessly, and we’ve seen more movement in recent weeks than in the previous 16 years. Our nation’s top defense officials testified, before the Senate Armed Services Committee, that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell should be repealed. That did not happen in a vacuum.

These events are just the start. There is a clear path to repeal, and that’s the one we’re on

Well thats a nice statement but it really doesn’t cover the concerns about HRC’s super secret ass kissung strategy or ther fact that they are as strong and forceful as a new born kitten.

Words, words, and more words from an organization drowning in happy talkm while our rights slip away more and more each day.

BLOG SWARM: DEMAND That HRC And Obama Work To Repeal DADT This Year! – CALL TO ACTION!

Today Back2Stonewall.com joins up with a coalition of gay and straight bloggers in asking our readers to contact the Human Rights Campaign on behalf of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

Some may say that there is little the President can do, or that this is up to Congress now. That is simply untrue. The President can send a powerful signal that he wants the repeal done this year. He can include the repeal of DADT in the Defense Budget he sends to Congress in the next few months. He can STOP discharges using a Stop-Loss Executive Order until DADT is repealed.  If the President is serious about keeping his promises to our community, now is his chance to prove it.

Because The Human Rights Campaign has because a farce of an organization with laughable effectiveness and a leader (Joe Solomese) less concerned about transparency than window glass and who has become Obama’s butt boy “power-bottom’ we all need to start demanding that they pull th act together and step up to the plate and actually work for the repeal to happen this year. HRC may argue that it’s already told the President it would like to see DADT repealed this year. Well, that’s just not enough. They have to FIGHT for ir.

It’s time to PUSH the HRC into REAL ACTION.

PLEASE CONTACT HRC TODAY AND DEMAND ACTION!

Contact HRC today.  Call, email, leave messages on thier comment board and urge them to publicly demand that the President take the lead in getting DADT repealed this year.

Enough is enough!

We are at a unique moment in history. Pro-gay Democrats control the White House and the Congress. Momentum is building for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. And the polls show that the American people, even Republicans, are on our side. We can win this battle. But only if our leaders choose to lead. Gay Americans helped elect this President and this Congress with our votes, our money and our time. And gay Americans have funded HRC for years, in exchange for a promise of results once the Democrats finally came to power.

You’ve done your job. Now it’s time for the President, Congress and HRC to do theirs.

Call and DEMAND ACTION!  (Also spread the word to others to do the same!)
