Dallas Paramedic Refuses To Help Gay Man Over Fear Of Catching AIDS

A Dallas paramedic allegedly refused to treat a gay man at BJ’s NXS Male Entertainment Complex this week after the man was hit in the head with a glass by another patron for fear of catching AIDS.

Zachary Taylor McGinnis said he was at the gay bar on Fitzhugh Avenue on Tuesday evening, July 29. He said he was speaking to a woman who was apparently with a man standing on her other side when the man suddenly hit him in the head with a glass, grabbed the woman and stormed out.

McGinnis said he and a friend followed the couple outside and were there when Dallas Fire and Rescue personnel arrived. Paramedics in Dallas Fire Department Truck 8 responded to the 911 call.

“The [paramedic] gets out, walks around the truck, saw my bleeding head, saw the other patrons outside and said, ‘I’m not treating him,’” McGinnis said.

McGinnis’ friend said, “Excuse me?” And the paramedic repeated, “I’m not treating him.”

“Why?” McGinnis asked.

“You have blood on you,” the paramedic said.

“Aren’t you a paramedic?” McGinnis’ friend asked.

“You need to step back,” the paramedic said.

Police also responded to the scene, apparently in response to a call for assistance by the paramedic.

When police and paramedics left, McGinnis said he tried to go back into BJ’s to close his bar tab. Management wouldn’t allow him back in and, he said, he still hasn’t retrieved his credit card.

McGinnis contacted  Dallas police LGBT liaison Laura Martin, who directed him to fire department liaison Sherry Durant. Martin said she spoke to Durant, who said she will guide McGinnis through the complaint process. But as of Friday noon, Durant has not returned repeated follow-up calls from Zachary McGinnis.

Disgusting.  That 30 years later and the stigma still  continues.

Club Dallas Gay Bathhouse Raided, 11 Arrested For Public Lewdness and Indecent Exposure

What year is this 1965?

On Friday night police raided The Club-Dallas, a gay bathhouse in the Deep Ellum district of East Dallas, and arrested 11 people.

Why the raid?  “When somebody complains we have to go in, just like when someone calls 911 we have to go to the call,” Laura Martin  the DPD’s liaison officer to the gay community, said. “Now that so much activity was found there, they can probably expect more vice operations there. … I’ve certainly never been there, but I’ve heard that public lewdness does go on in the club. All you have to do is keep your ears open.”

Ten patrons of The Club reportedly were charged with either public lewdness or indecent exposure, while one employee was charged with interfering with police. DPD would only release records related to three of the 11 arrests, according to the Dallas Voice which broke the story needs to file a freedom of information request to obtain additional details.

The Club Dallas issued a one-sentence statement about the raid. “The Club Dallas management is committed to pursuing justice for and defending the rights of each of its members,” The Club helped bond out arrested members from jail and has offered them legal representation.

One member who was present during the raid but was not arrested, accused police of harassment and intimidation. According to police reports, two undercover officers paid their way into The Club and gathered evidence, before additional officers came in and helped execute the arrests. The member said the officers were carrying plastic flexcuffs and detained him for 45 minutes even though he was just working out in the fitness area. He said he believes the city is trying to shut down The Club to make way for redevelopment around the new DART station that sits next door.

At one point the member said he heard one of the officers remark that, “I’m going to have nightmares forever after this.”

This whole raid sounds like a set-up.  One complain sparks a major vice raid?  Dallas has a high crime rate people are getting shot and killed, beaten, raped, kidnapped, and robbed in the Oaklawn area, not to mention other areas of Dallas; and the DPD has time to have vice officers raid and arrest people in Club Dallas?

I cannot tell you how much this distresses me.  Now no matter what your opinion of bathhouses are this is a direct throwback to gay harassment of the 1960’s.  In recent months we have had gay bar raids, bathhouse raids, rabid anti-gay talk from politicians,  a spike in LGBT hate crimes and murder, an epidemic of LGBT teen suicides, LGBT books being banned from libaries, and people being fired for just being gay.

This is a very serious situation .  And we need to do something about it.  Its like time is marching backwards.

Two Gay Men Attacked With Baseball Bats Outside Dallas, TX Gay Bar (Video)

Two gay men were attacked and beaten with baseball bats  early Saturday morning after leaving a gay bar in Dallas, TX.  Dallas police say they consider this attack only a robbery and not a hate crime despite the fact that the assailants screamed anti-gay slurs during the attack.

WFAA-TV in Dallas reports:

I was sending a text and got hit in the head with something really hard,” said Kyle, 28. “Even if I had something to protect myself, I wouldn’t be able to use it… I didn’t even know they were there.”

The men pushed both Kyle and Alex to the ground and began kicking and hitting them with the bats.

Kyle was knocked out, but Alex said the men used homophobic slurs, and didn’t ask for money before lashing out.

“They pushed us to the ground and they had baseball bats and I heard them say, ‘F*****s, give us your f*****g wallets,'” Alex recalled. “I thought I was going to die; I thought they were going to try and kill us.”

The four suspects — described only as Latin males wearing white tank tops — fled with the wallets and cell phones of Kyle and Alex.

Dallas police say they consider this attack only a robbery and not a hate crime. Alex disagrees. “I still feel like that was why we were targeted in the first place, because we are gay,” he said. “It was like it was funny to them.

John Wright of the Dallas Voice contacted the Dallas Police Department to inquire why the incident wasn’t categorized as a hate crime. He received a reply about the assault from Senior Cpl. Gerardo Monreal: “Detectives are the only officers that can reclassify the offense. The motive was to take money.”

Wright’s reaction: “Based on Monreal’s statement to me, I’m guessing that officers who responded to the incident failed to classify it as an anti-gay hate crime, and it would be up to detectives to reclassify it. Under the federal Hate Crimes Statistics Act, local law enforcement is required to report to the FBI crimes that are motivated, “IN WHOLE OR IN PART,” by anti-gay bias. And one of the main criteria for determining bias is “oral comments” made by suspects during a crime.”

Looks like the “D” in Dallas DP stands for douchebag
