DC Comics Puts HBO's Green Lantern Back in the Closet

DC Comics Puts HBO’s Green Lantern Back in the Closet

Back in late 2020 we reported that HBO Max’s reboot series of the Green Lantern will feature the first Green Lantern character, Alan Scott – and, like in the Earth-2 comics, the character will be openly gay. But now it looks like DC is pushing Alan Scott back into the closet and out of the series and will now will instead be about John Stewart, one of DC’s first Black superheroes.

When the Warner Bros./Discovery Merger happened earlier this year, the project’s status was up in the air, as many shows in development, including Kevin Smith’s Strange Adventures show, were canceled. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the show was still on track, just changed.

Marc Guggenheim, former writer for HBO’s Green Lantern TV series, broke his silence about the show’s overhaul and admitted he had complicated feelings about it: “I haven’t had much to do with the series for the past year or so. Nevertheless, my feelings about this development (or, I suppose, redevelopment) are… complex. However, my feelings about the writing staff — Elizabeth Hunter, Sara Saedi, Pornsak Pichetshote, Juan Carlos Fernandez, Geoff Johns, Lamont Magee, Kirsten Pierre, and Jabari McDonald — are anything but. Showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith and I assembled a group of incredible writers and terrific human beings whose voices were as layered and diverse as the show we originally set out to make. Although this version of Green Lantern won’t be breaking out of orbit, I’ll always be grateful that these wonderful folks ended up in mine.

The original premise for the series reinvented the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott (Irvine), and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta.

Irvine and Wittrock are no longer attached to the project.

Overwatch Comic Reveals That Soldier 76 is Gay

Overwatch Comic Reveals That Soldier 76 is Gay

In “Bastet,” the latest Overwatch comic, Soldier 76 (aka Jack Morrison) reveals that he is gay in a series of flashbacks while looking at old pictures. One of those photos shows Soldier 76 next to a mysterious man named Vincent.

“Vincent deserved a happier life than the one [he] could give him.”

Soldier 76 immediately says that Vincent is already married and that he is happy for him. Soldier 76 continues that he won’t be able to give him a regular life due to his work and current status in life.

Michael Chu would confirm on Twitter, “Jack and Vincent were in a romantic relationship many years ago. Both identify as gay.”

It means Soldier/Jack is the second known gay character in Overwatch after cover-star Tracer was pictured with her girlfriend in the webcomic “Reflections” just over two years ago.

The real question is, who is Vincent? Is this Blizzard teasing a new Overwatch hero – one of the six we know are in development – or is Vincent simply a memory, an incidental character and a way to breathe more diversity in?

Only time will tell.

Actor Jamie Bell: Tintin Might Be Gay!

Jamie Bell, who has grown up quite nicely since his Billy Elliot days will be voicing the main character of Tintin in the forthcoming Steven Spielberg adaptation, The Adventures of Tintin (Les Aventures de Tintin) based on the series of classic comic books created by Belgian artist Georges Rémi

In an interview with Nightlife.ca Bell weighs in on whether he thinks Tintin is gay:

I mean, I think that there’s always been that conversation; there’s always been that argument. No one has ever said no to that argument; there’s nothing definitive, so I mean, it’s up in the air. It’s an interesting question, because there is a lack of women and females in the entire Tintin universe; there’s only one and she’s represented as this annoying person who is singing all the time and bugs everyone [Ed’s Note: La Castafiore]. So there’s more mythology and curiosity about that. In all fairness, marriage and relationships aren’t really on his radar, though; he’s got bigger fish to fry and a larger treasure to find.”

Well if TinTin really is gay he’s very lucky to be from Belgium

Belgium is considered to be a very liberal country in regards to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) rights and became the second country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, in 2003.

You go TinTin girl!
