Anti-Gay Bigots in Hungary Lose Their Minds Over Coca Cola Ad Featuring Same Sex Couples

Anti-Gay Bigots in Hungary Lose Their Minds Over Coca Cola Ad Featuring Same Sex Couples

A new Coca-Cola advertisement running in Hungary that include images of same-sex couples kissing and holding bottles of Coke is facing backlash from anti-gay Hungarian politicians and conservative activists.  The ads can be seen at train stations and elsewhere in the nation’s capital, according to several local media reports.

Coke launched the “Love is Love” campaign in Hungary days ahead of the progressive Sziget festival, which is scheduled to kick off in Budapest this week. The posters contain slogans, such as, “Zero Sugar, Zero Prejudice.”

István Boldog, a conservative member of the Hungarian parliament and a Fidesz party leader, has called for a boycott of Coca-Cola products until the ads are removed.

The country currently recognizes legal unions for same-sex couples, but the Fidesz party and its leader, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, oppose the legalization of same-sex marriage.

An online petition calling for a boycott and for local officials to ban the ads has reached about half its goal of 50,000 signatures. There is speculation that the many of the signatories are fake.

“Until now, large companies in Hungary have not advertised with openly gay content and messages. Do not be illusory, this is a test,” a translated version of the petition states. “If Hungarian society accepts this, there will be more and more steps. Posters, commercials, films, rainbow products, etc. And as we continue to slide down the slope, it will become increasingly difficult to stop.”

Cola-Cola has no intention of removing the ads and responded to criticism of the campaign: “We believe that both heterosexuals and homosexuals have the right to love a person the best they can.”

“In our advertisements, posts, and messages, we express the principles we represent, and thus our belief in equality between people.

“We believe that in a world based on these values, everyone can live freely, happily. The right to love and be loved belongs to everyone.”

Coca-Cola Dropped From Major UK LGBT Awards Show‏ Due To Sponsorship of Sochi Olympics

Coke

Coca-Cola has been dropped from the Brand of the Year shortlist for the UK’s 2014 Out in the City and G3 Magazines award ceremony because of its sponsorship of the Sochi Winter Olympics. The Awards dubbed the UK’s  “Gay Oscars” pay tribute to high profile LGBT people and companies who show support to the gay community in the last year.

Sarah Garrett, managing director of the company which produce the awards, said: ‘It is bitterly disappointing that Coca-Cola has not listened to the collective voice of the global gay community who are horrified by the Putin government’s anti-gay and repressive policies.

‘Brands like Coke should be making a stand against the demonetization of gay people by withdrawing sponsorship for the Winter Olympics. Refusing to do so is a slap in the face to the international gay community.’

The company has unsuccessfully been trying downplaying its sponsorship of the Sochi Winter Olympics in the West, as not to upset gay rights activists and has been making some major fumbles inciting more anger to brand in the LGBT community. Coke has been caught trying to delete and scrub its Facebook pages of any anti-Coke and anti-Sochi comments and visitors to the Share a Coke website which has been running since the summer and encourages you to create your own virtual personalized Coke can has banned the word “gay” Visitors have found that if you type in the word “gay” or “gays” an ‘Oops’ message appears which is usually only displayed if the user tries to type a swear word. The words ‘Straight’ and ‘Hetero’ are both deemed acceptable.

Feel free to drop by Coke’s “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” Facebook page and let them know how you feel.

COKE IS NOT IT!

Coca Cola (Coke) Defends The Arrest Of Gay Russian Man Holding a Rainbow Flag In Protest

Russia Sochi olympic protest

Late last week we reported on young Russian LGBT activist Pavel Lebedev was detained and arrested for holding a rainbow flag during the Olympic Torch Relay. What you may or may not have noticed was that on the official Olympic security guard’s uniform were the Olympic rings and the Coca-Cola logo.

Yesterday the Coca-Cola company released an email statement and responded to the incident and their logo being associated with it in perhaps the worst way possible: by defending the arrest and fining of Lebedev. The statement said, in part:

As a Presenting Partner of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay, our logo appears on all of the uniforms for the staff assigned by the Sochi Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) to support the Torch Relay.

SOCOG reported that a spectator was prevented from breaching the security perimeter around the Torchbearer. The spectator was detained briefly by local police and was fined.

Coke then had the nerve to include in the letter:

As one of the world’s most inclusive brands, we value and celebrate diversity. We have long been a strong supporter of the LGBT community and have advocated for inclusion and diversity through both our policies and practices. We do not condone human rights abuses, intolerance or discrimination of any kind anywhere in the world.

Young Pavel Lebedev is a Russian civil rights hero.

Coke is so NOT IT.

Swedish Vodka and Pepsi please.

NOTE:  Of course The Coca-Cola Company has received a 100 percent rating from the Human RightsCampaign (HRC) four years in a row for its workplace policies for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) associates.   Coke is a major sponsor of America LGBT nonprofits including the Human Rights Campaign.

Romney Holds Campaign Stop At Convicted Coke Smugglers Fruit Stand In Miami

Mitt Romney spoke at a campaign event at a El Palacio de los Jugos fresh fruit and vegetable stand with Sen. Marco Rubio in Miami, FL on Monday knowing that the business owned by a convicted Colombian cocaine smuggler.

In media reports in November 1997, Bermudez (the store owner) was identified as one of 12 people accused in a Colombian drug smuggling operation. The arrests followed a seven-month investigation led by the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Agents seized about 2,850 pounds of cocaine at three South Florida ports over several months. Agents first seized 430 pounds of cocaine at the Port of Palm Beach in July 1997 and then 117 pounds in late September at the Port of Miami. Those shipments were concealed in containers filled with fish imported from Trinidad, an island in the south Caribbean. The largest and final seizure came in late October at Port Everglades, where officials found 2,304 pounds of cocaine in a container of soap imported from Venezuela

Bermudez told the Miami New Times that the Secret Service vetted everything about him when the Romney campaign asked to use his fresh fruit and vegetable stand and that they knew about his criminal record.

Romney also filmed a campaign ad at the store.

Well Mittens does love companies that outsource.
