Last night POSE star Billy Porter released his own State of the Union address for the LGBT community.
Porter recapped the past LGBT highlights of the year ranging from a record number of LGBT members elected to Congress and out Mayor Pete Buttigieg announcing his run for president to Jared Polis winning the governorship in Colorado.
Porter also spotlighted the gay crackdown in Chechnya and the anti-LGBT violence in Brazil resulting from the election of president Jair Bolsonaro and also talked about the increase in LGBTQ hate crimes, particularly transgender women of color.
Porter was even able to work in a plug for his own television show POSE
The one thing that Porter did not mention, or overlooked is the fact that after fighting for 50 years since the Stonewall riots took place is that gay, lesbian, bisexuals and transgender Americans still DO NOT have the same equal federal civil rights protection and all other Americans have in this country.
In this the 50th Anniversary year of the Stonewall Riots the lack of GLBT federal civil rights something we should remember but should be in the forefront of our fight and never forgotten/.
