Ashley Judd and NPH to Star in Biopic of the Queen of Anti-Gay Bigots Anita Bryant

Ashley Judd and Neil Patrick Harris have been cast for the title roles in “Anita,” a biopic on Anita Bryant, a former TV pitchwoman who lead her “Save The Children” campaign against Florida’s anti-discrimination ordinances and in the process lit a fire under the gay rights movement which would destroy her marriage and her career.

Chad Hodge, the man behind TNT series ‘Good Behavior’, will write and direct the film which will be produced by Howard Rosenman and Darren Star, Variety reported.

In the film, Harris plays the role of Hodge, who spent significant time with Bryant in her Oklahoma home while researching the history.

“As a gay man and a writer who likes to explore complex, messy characters” said Hodge. “I’ve always thought about Anita Bryant. How could this celebrity who espoused Christian goodness and orange juice through song suddenly use those platforms to go on a nationwide anti-gay crusade and overturn gay rights laws?”

Principal photography will start in September. Tim Duffy will also produce. Michael W. Gray will exec produce.

No mention if a fruit pie will co-star.

While Mitch McConnell Plays Victim, Ethics Complaint Is Filed Against HIM Over Judd Tape

Mitch McConnell cries

While Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been playing “victim” all week and spinning the release of an audio recording from a Feb. 2 meeting between him and his aides debating the use of smear tactics against actress Ashley Judd’s mental  health, views on religion and attitudes about family while she was debating a Kentucky Senate run now the tables have tuned and McConnell and his staff may very well be investigated over the incident.

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a nonprofit government watchdog group, has asked the Senate ethics committee and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to probe whether aides and McConnell improperly conducted political opposition research on federal government time and property.

McConnell can be heard on the recording telling his campaign aides they are in “the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign,” saying to hit anybody who sticks their head up.

One aide can be heard describing Judd as “clearly … emotionally unbalanced.” with the aide leading the strategy meeting stating that Judd “views  [traditional Christianity] as sort of a vestige of patriarchy” and said she is “anti-sort-of-traditional American family.”

Senate ethics rules forbid legislative assistants and other Senate employees from participating in political activities on government time.

The FBI is currently investigating how the tape of the McConnell was made.  But in the past few days it has come to light that two men Curtis Morrison and Shawn Reilly from the small  progressive Democratic PAC Progress Kentucky recorded and leaked the taped.  But more shockingly is that they  and were exposed by Jacob  Conway, a Democratic county official who says that the duo told him about  the recording shortly after they made it.  Said Conway “I’m an honest person,” Conway said. “If you’re going to ask me an honest question, I’m going to give you an honest answer.”

What  Conway did not say is that the current Kentucky Democratic party looks at Morrison and Reilly as annoyances. Said veteran in-state Democratic strategist Jimmy Cauley. “They’re pretty much out there on the fringe of anything I know of as the Kentucky Democratic organization.” , which it turns out is very easy in a state where most of the Democrats are just as conservative as their Republican opponents.  Recently the Democrat-controlled House, voted 82-7 to pass House Bill 279, dubbed the Religious Freedom Bill, that allows Kentucky organizations and individuals carte blanche to ignore anti-LGBT discrimination laws and statutes that they perceive as violations of their religious rights.

Said Melanie Sloan, CREW’s executive director believes that the FBI should expand its probe. “McConnell should welcome a review of the tape,” she says. “If McConnell thought it was so important for the FBI to investigate, the FBI should investigate everything about the incident. I think that’s hard to argue against. The tape certainly gives you probable cause to believe something improper occurred. It clearly merits investigation.”

A spokesman for Judd gave the following statement to Us Weekly:

“This is yet another example of the politics of personal destruction that embody Mitch McConnell and are pervasive in Washington, D.C. We expected nothing less from Mitch McConnell and his camp than to take a personal struggle such as depression, which many Americans cope with on a daily basis, and turn it into a laughing matter. Every day it becomes clearer how much we need change in Washington from this kind of rhetoric and actions.”

Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Is Running Scared – Ashley Judd Only 4 Points Behind In Early Polls

Kentucky’s self-fillerbusting  GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is running scared after doing some doing some early internal polls which are showing that Actress and advocate Ashley Judd is running  only 4 points behind him even though she has not “officially” announced her intent to run for his senate seat.

Democrats plan to make McConnell their biggest target in 2014 and Judd could energize Democrats in Kentucky and from coast to coast. Largely because she  remains a popular figure with nearly universal name ID.

But already McConnell and his team are preparing a “dossier” of Judd’s  “liberal” social causes in recent years, including her fight for LGBT equality, abortion rights,  AIDS prevention and environmental protection to use against her.

“Judd wouldn’t make it through the starting gate” , the GOP leader’s political team  believes, once her views on coal, abortion and American Health Care Act are known to voters.

But what of Mcconnell’s past?   Should the gloves come off in 2014 his own dismal record can and would be used against him.  Also Mitch McConnell became a multi-millionaire doing the people’s business in  Congress while Kentucky is one of the poorest states in the country. Can you  imagine what he has lurking in his past?

As for Ashley Judd.

“Ashley has yet to decide about running for the United States Senate,” said Cara  Tripicchio, the Judd spokeswoman. “She is honored by the incredible  encouragement from her fellow Kentuckians and the national interest, including  Senator McConnell.”

Actress, Advocate, and Humanitarian Ashley Judd To Run Against Mitch McConnell (R – KY) in 2014?

Even before Tuesdays election there has been some serious chatter in the state of Kentucky that actress, humanitarian and political activist Ashley Judd might be considering running against Republican Mitch McConnell for his Kentucky Senate  seat in 2014.

Ashley, the daughter of country music singer Naomi Judd and the half-sister of Wynonna Judd. While she is best known for an ongoing acting career spanning more than two decades, she has increasingly become involved in global humanitarian efforts and political activism. Including a being a global ambassador for YouthAIDS, taking a position on the Leadership Council of the International Center for Research on Women, and also working alongside Women for Women International, and Equality Now.

In a statement provided to the Louisville Courier-Journal on Thursday,  Judd did not rule out a potential challenge to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in 2014. Speculation is rife that Judd, a Kentucky native, could be the Democratic nominee against the vulnerable Minority Leader.

The statement:

I cherish Kentucky, heart and soul, and while I’m very honored by the consideration, we have just finished an election, so let’s focus on coming together to keep moving America’s families, and especially our kids, forward.

Ashley is married to IndyCar driver, and 3-time Indianapolis 500 champion Dario Franchitti.
