Family Research Council President and Grand Dragon Tony Perkins today once again today lashed out on the imaginary “war on Christians” complaining that Answers in Genesis  who own the Creationist Museum in Kentucky had  been turned down for around $18 million in state tax incentives for its new Noah’s Ark Theme Park  aka The Ark amid concerns that it will promote religion and violate the separation of church and state after being caught having a “Christians only” hiring practice.

“At a new Kentucky theme park, Christians are the ones getting taken for a ride. Construction is already underway in Williamstown for a one-of-a-kind tourist attraction by our friends at Answers in Genesis (AiG). The organization behind the Creation Museum is working on a built-to-scale Ark Encounter — but so far, all they’ve encountered is intolerance. The state had given AiG the thumbs up on its application last fall, which triggered some outcry from anti-faith groups. Almost immediately, they swooped into Kentucky and started making noise about the rebate, demanding that it be retracted. Why? Because AiG dares to hire people who share their beliefs on creation. And as a religious organization, that’s entirely within both state and federal law. Do we force animal rights groups to hire hunters? No. Or Muslim groceries to hire pig farmers? Of course not. So why is Ham’s group being targeted? Constitutional questions aside, with as many as 700,000 people expected at the Ark each year, the benefits for Kentucky far outweigh any perceived slights in hiring policy.

The state of Kentucky has come to its senses and  withdrawn its offer of tax breaks to Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis’ creationist religious-themed park that would feature a 500-foot-long wooden ark.

Tourism Secretary Bob Stewart says the planned project had evolved from a tourism attraction into an outreach for the Christian ministry that is building it. Stewart wrote in a letter Wednesday to the group’s lawyer that “state tourism tax incentives cannot be used to fund religious indoctrination.”

He said the group was no longer honoring its pledge to not discriminate in hiring for the ark park.

AIG  has dismissed non-discrimination policies and has insisted the theme park be staffed with people who agree with their statement of faith.

The long-planned Ark Encounter attraction is being built by a nonprofit subsidiary of Answers in Genesis, the Kentucky-based Christian ministry that operates the popular and controversial Creation Museum.

AIG spokesperson Mark Looy states that If the ark park does not get the rebate, it would be a huge financial loss.

The ark project got preliminary approval in July for up to $18 million in tax rebates which would allow them to receive up to 25% of their initial investment in 10-years.

Recently the Creation Museum a erected a 10-foot by 36-foot billboard in Lexington that reads, “To all of our intolerant liberal friends thank God you can’t sink this ship.”
