GOP’s First House Bill “The Old Glory Act” Bans Pride Flags

The “Old Glory Only Act,” sponsored by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) is one of the Republican majority’s first legislative priorities in the U.S. House of Representatives and would prohibit flags other than the American flag from being flown over U.S. diplomatic and consular posts. Meaning the rainbow PRIDE flag.

Republicans “claim” the Old Glory Only Act remedies the politicization of U.S. embassies during the Biden administration, which has allowed Pride and Black Lives Matter flags to be flown from U.S. embassies.

“Our beautiful flag, Old Glory, should be the only flag flying and representing our country over our diplomatic and consular posts worldwide,” Duncan said in a press release.  “It is important to ensure that Old Glory only is flown at American embassies to represent our ideals abroad.”

The GOP is responding to Obama administration when U.S. foreign officials allowed rainbow flags to fly over American embassies in Moscow, Belize, Israel, Jamaica, Macedonia and Iraqi Kurdistan, but if the Old Glory Act passes that won’t happen anymore. Furthermore the continues attacks of not only LGBT rights but LGBT Americans in general shows that anti-LGBT sentiment will be fueling the GOP’s 2024 elections campaign platform.

  1. Personally, I think that there are more important issues at hand that should have priority than this. Inflation, gas prices the border problems, jobs, health care reform, but no. This assembly has done nothing for the American people, but everything for themselves and their agenda

  2. It is more evident as each day passes that the Republican party does believe in the rights of LGBTQ or persons of color. That viewpoint, however, does NOT “represent our ideals” and paints us as fractured politically and socially to our friends and adversaries abroad.

  3. Runaway inflation with one dozen eggs costing American families $6 a dozen, and this is what these people think is priority? They clearly do jot have a clue what actually matters to their constituents.

  4. I agree that there areote important things to work on, but I also believe the American flag should be the only one flown at our embassy
