DC Comics Puts HBO's Green Lantern Back in the Closet

HBO’s Upcoming Green Lantern Superhero Will Be Openly Gay

It has been confirmed that the new HBO Max reboot series of the Green Lantern will feature the first Green Lantern character, Alan Scott – and, like in the Earth-2 comics, the character will be openly gay.

Alan Scott became the first Green Lantern superhero when he was created in 1940 by Martin Nodell. He was later reinvented as Hal Jordan in 1959.

From HBO Max, DC, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television comes a bold adaptation of the iconic comic book franchise, a saga spanning decades and galaxies. GREEN LANTERN will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man.

The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Kilowog, and will also introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.

HBO Max has ordered 10 one-hour episodes. The series will be co-written and executive produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Grahame-Smith serving as showrunner.

Casting for the new live action show has not yet begun.

  1. Hi Will,

What an interesting news. I already imagine lot of people thinking of everything and the opposite about it 🙂

Anyway, making the community more present and usual for a mainstream audience is a nice thing.

To finish i would vote for Zac Efron 😉

    Thanks for sharing,

    Jessa
