Freedom to Marry Ohio was dealt a crushing blow as Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine (who happens to be a Rick Santorum supporter) has rejected their their initial required 1,000 voter signatures to repeal and replace a 2004 state constitutional amendment that says Ohio only recognizes marriages between a man and a woman because the group had not supplied “an adequate description” of the measure.
DeWine’s initial approval was needed before the group could start an effort to obtain the 385,000 signatures needed to put the measure before Ohio voters.
When a judge rules SSM bans illegal it’s “Judicial activism! Judges shouldn’t be legislating for the bench, that’s what the legislature is for!”
When a state government instates marriage equality it’s “Unconstitutional! You can’t infringe our religious rights!”
When the federal government declares an anti-marriage equality law unconstitutional it’s “Socialist leftist big government! States’ Rights must be supreme! Let The People Decide!”
And when it looks like “The People” might actually vote in favor of marriage equality, they start looking for excuses to deny the vote.
This is ridiculous, if they had the signatures, how can he legally stop it from being on the ballot?
