A whopping 500 viewers out of the 6.5 – 5 million weekly views of Torchwood: Miracle Day complained to the BBC about the ‘soft porn’ scenes in Episode 5 – Immortal Sins which shows the backstory Captain Jack’s relationship with a young Italian man named Angelo, played by Daniele Favilli.
One viewer wrote online: ‘This show is meant to be a sci-fi show. I had to turn it off as my grandson, an avid sci-fi fan, was in the room.
‘I am sure both myself and others are disgusted at last night’s show. Leave the gay scenes for the programmes more suited – not sci-fi.’
Wow, not suited for Science Fiction. You see homosexuals don’t exist in alternate realities or the future for some bigots.
Torchwood, although it is a spin-off of Dr. Who not meant for children, it never has been. Whats really interesting is that these people are complaining about the Jack/Angelo love scene and not the brutally violent 5 minute scene that played during the episode Jack being repeatedly killed over and over.
While I am not a huge fan of this seasons Torchwood thanks to the BBC being so cheap that they join with STARZ which is the kiss of death for ANY Americanized version of ANY BBC show. Once American TV gets involved it gets bad. (Ashes to Ashes, Queer As Folk, Being Human).
If these bigots were TRUE Torchwood and Sci-Fi fans perhaps they’d do less bitching about Jack having sex with another guy and do more bitching about the quality of this seasons Torchwood in general. Because as it stands now the gay sex scenes are the least of Torchwood: Miracle Day’s problem
Sex has always been an integral part of Torchwood, whether it’s Capt. Jack’s sexual appetite or the appetites of the other Torchwood agents. The last seasons of the series contained sexual relations of Torchwood agents with alien species. Jack and Ianto were in a relationship, but we never saw them in bed. Now that the series is on the premium channel Starz, there can be more explicit expressions of sexual relations. As for the quality of Torchwood: Miracle Day in general, well, opinions are like rectums; everyone has one, and most of them ________. (fill in the blank)
