The Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce on Monday blasted out an e-mail to hundreds of its members along with two groups spearheading boycotts against the state the Human Rights Campaign and the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The e-mail, which urged those two groups to “rescind” their boycott and chamber members to pester them until they do.
“We feel the boycott of the entire state of Arizona is counter-productive to the issue at hand. Punishing Arizona businesses will not change the minds of any partisan legislature politician, including Arizona’s,” said the e-mail sent out Monday. “Our entire state has been miscast as racist, unsophisticated and dangerous in the worst of the ‘Wild West’ stereotypes.”
The Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce has also accused HRC of trying to ingratiate themselves to Latino advocacy groups as well as the Service Employees International Union and expressing concern that the move will discourage gay and lesbian couples from visiting Arizona. (because we allw ant to go to AZ. After all it’s such a gay friendly state.)
Sorry there Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce it’s rare that I side with HRC but perhaps you should direct your email blasts at your state legislature. In a democracy, the legislature is supposed to work at the behest of its citizens. If the majority of Arizona’s citizens support the law and the work of their legislators, then let them feel the repercussions for that support. Supporters of LGBT equality, in particular, should take a leading role in efforts to undo the Arizona law.
So what, if anything other than worrying about your wallets and bank accounts are you doing to get the immigration law recinded Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce? (Or for that matter Arizona’s Anti-Gay Marriage Law?)
Answer me that.
