The second part of Season 5 of The Walking Dead returns on Sun., Feb. 8th at 9/8c on AMC.
And while the first part of season 5 was far better than the both “Governor storyline” and aftermath of Season’s 3 and 4 TWD does have to make up for ending on the weak and unliked note of Beth Greene’s death.
But the good news is that finally we will see a gay male survivor of the Zombie Apocalypse by the end of this season. Robert Kirkman said a gay character from the comic was coming in Season 5, and that is probably Aaron from the Alexandia Safe Zone storyline although no casting has been announced. BUT there is the slimmest chance that it might be the kickass gay character of Jesus which is running through the current comic storyline.
Finally after four seasons and countless bitchy posts from this website not one but two lesbian characters have surfaced on The Walking Dead officially ending their abysmal zero rating of having any LGBT representation on the AMC hit show.
In last nights episode “Dead Weight” (another snoozefest of a Governor story-line only episode) the only thing that made it worth watching was blocking out David Morrisey’s abysmal performance as the Governor and focusing on the supporting characters of Martinez and the brothers Ken (Dollhouse‘s very hot Enver Gjokaj) and Mitch (Fringe‘s Kirk Acevedo) and the lesbian coupling of the characters Tara and Alisha.
When we first met Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) in Season 4, Episode 6: “Live Bait,” we didn’t know a whole lot about her. She hinted a little bit at a previous girlfriend, Sam, in “Live Bait,” after the Chambler family car broke down — apparently, they’d taken mushrooms together on a camping trip, and Sam decided it’d be a great time to tell Tara that she’s actually straight. Womp womp. But on last nights episode a potion of the LGBT community finally got included in the Walking Dead universe when Tara hooked up with a fellow survivor at the Gov.’s new camp, Alisha (Juliana Harkavy).
Very subtly done. Some flirting, a walk in the walker infested woods, and an onscreen cuddle. Not over the top, your face and not the defining stories of the characters. Which is much appreciated. Television and movie charcters should nopt be defined by their sexuality. It should just be there and dealt with no differently than heterosexuality. I do have to say this though. As hard as they tried the writes did miss the boat a bit on stereotyping, Tara is, well was a cop and Alisha a Marine. Lesbians do have careers other than ones that require shooting guns and being butch (Or so I am told) But hey, I give them an A for trying and finally after 4 seasons showing that a portion of the LGBT community does at least exist in The Walking Dead universe.
Now, TWD. How about Daryl coming out as a closeted gay redneck? Its really not a far stretch considering his hair color keeps changing and his hair is always stylishly cut. And it would sure lift the boredom of the Governor’s endlessly insipid story-line.
The Walking Dead webisode series returned today just two weeks before the premier of Season 4 with three new installments.
The Walking Dead: The Oath tells the story of the lone survivors of a massive walker-attack, Paul (Wyatt Russell, Cowboys and Aliens) and Karina (Ashley Bell, The Last Exorcism), who speed across the countryside, frantically searching for an aid-station as one of them slowly bleeds out from a wound. Finally coming upon a hospital that has not been overrun at first feels like a blessing, but could soon turn to misfortune, as a seemingly benevolent doctor (Ellen Greene, Little Shop of Horrors and Pushing Daisies) may hide a darker and eviler agenda.
Here’s a new leaked look at Brad Pitt and Paramount Pictures World War Z with the second trailer which was supposed to be released tomorrow.
For those of you who have read Max Brook’s awesome book of the same title you’ll see little resemblance between it and the movie other than the title and the main characters name. Which is a pity. But it does seem to be a serviceable action packed zombie apocalypse flick never the less.
At Wednesday’s House of Commons meeting, Winnipeg Parliament member Pat Martin asked Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird about zombie apocalypse preparations. What followed was a debate that has created YouTube viral gold. Martin asks for the government to put in place measures for dealing with an invasion of zombies.
Martin said,
“I don’t need to tell you, Mr. Speaker, that zombies don’t recognize borders. Zombie invasion in the United States could easily turn into a continent-wide pandemic if it’s not contained.
On behalf of concerned Canadians everywhere, I want to ask the minister of foreign affairs, is he working with his American counterparts to develop an international zombie strategy so that a zombie invasion does not turn into a zombie apocalypse?”
Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird responded to Martin saying., “Mr. Speaker, I want to assure this member and all Canadians that I am dead-i-cated to ensuring that this never happens. I want to say categorically to this member and through him to all Canadians that under the leadership of this prime minister, Canada will never become a safe haven for zombies. Ever!”
Oh Canada. You are so awesome.
And Canadian Parliament members have great taste in neckties.
The story revives around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.
Brooks’ follow-up to satire “The Zombie Survival Guide” sparked a bidding battle, with Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way on the other side of the table from Paramount and Brad Pitt‘s Plan B Productions
Pitt finally won the rights and will be starring in the Z Apocolyptic flick thats set to be released on June 21st, 2013.
The Westboro Baptist Church got a bit of a surprise on Friday when they showed up to their scheduled hatefest protest at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord military facility in Dupont, Washington and were faced with counter-protesters dressed as ZOMBIES.
27 year old Melissa Neace, thought up the Zombie protest against Westboro. “We wanted to turn something negative around, into something people could laugh at and poke fun at. It was the easiest way to divert attention from something so hateful.”
Neace summoned her hordes in the traditional way: She built a Facebook group, “Zombie’ing Westboro Baptist Church AWAY from Fort Lewis!”
About 300 Zombies and counter-protestors showed up.
Unfortunately no WBC members were eaten during the protest.
