GLAAD Slams Tomboy Movie for Gender-Confirmation Surgery Plot: “We Haven’t Read The Script BUT….”

GLAAD Media

GLAAD, (formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and recently the Gay Organization That No One Really Cares About Because It Really Does Nothing But Holds Galas) has come out swinging blindly at the upcoming film Tomboy: A Revenger’s Tale and is causing a controversy among Trans-activist groups, calling the plot-line of the planned movie “disappointing” for its “sensationalistic” depiction of gender-confirmation surgeries even though they haven’t read the script yet!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film from director Walter Hill centers on an assassin (played by lesbian actress Michelle Rodriguez) who is seeking revenge on a surgeon (played by LGBT ally and Prayers for Bobby star Sigourney Weaver) for being turned from a man into a woman.

GLAAD states that Tomboy is that it makes light of the various forms of gender-confirmation surgery trans people undergo to align their physical bodies with their innate gender.

“We haven’t read the script, but it’s disappointing to see filmmakers turning what is a lifesaving medical procedure for transgender people into a sensationalistic plot device,” Nick Adams, GLAAD’s director of programs for transgender media, said in a statement.

“We are at a crucial moment in the public’s understanding of transgender issues, and stories like these have the potential to undermine the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve.”

Speaking of undermining “our progress” giving YouTube “star” Tyler Oakley an award for being an LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the LGBT community” kind of undermines the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve also. And you’ve actually seen his work.

Wasn’t a REAL celebrity available?

Pennsylvania GOP Governor Tom Corbett Hires $400 An Hour Attorney To Fight Gay Marriage

Tom Corbet asshole

Since Pennsylvania’s state attorney general Kathleen Kane has announced that she WILL NOT defend the state in a federal lawsuit filed by the ACLU challenging the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, which Kane calls “wholly unconstitutional.” Pennsylvania’s Republican Gov. Tom Corbett has decided to waste the states money and has hired the $400 an hour outside attorney William Lamb, a Republican and founding partner of the West Chester-based firm Lamb McErlane to defend the states bigotry.

“(Lamb) is one of the most prominent figures in that Pennsylvania legal community having served on the state Supreme Court and as district attorney for Chester County. Corbett’s general counsel James Schultz said the “unique circumstances” of this case compelled the Office of General Counsel to retain expert assistance in this case. “The Office of General Counsel provides comprehensive legal services to numerous state agencies and executives, but we do not typically defend cases that solely challenge the constitutionality of a statute,” Schultz said. “Who better than a former Supreme Court Justice and his firm to assist in addressing this type of fundamental question?”

hen will it sink in with the GOP that they have lost both the moral and legal arguments against equality? And they have lost public support too.

And as Cobett wastes Pennsylvania’s money on a $400 an hour attorney and his $350 an hour staff, the state has they’ve slashed funding of colleges 50% and schools are being closed in Philadelphia because of budget cuts.

Your tax money at work Pennsylvania.   Supporting the GOP gravy train of hate as it goes chugging along.

GLADD Releases New Study, LGBT’s Are Underrepresented In Movies. DUH!

GLAAD wastes money

GLADD aka the artist organization formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamationion has released a study finding that LGBT characters are grossly underrepresented in the movies.

SHOCKING RIGHT?

GLAAD staffers reviewed (and wasted time and money) the 101 films released by 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony’s Columbia, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. to search for the presence of LGBT characters and content to only find out what we already know.

GLAAD gave Fox and Disney “failing” grades for the lack of “LGBT-inclusive films,” with Disney releasing one such movie, “The Avengers,” and Fox putting out none. The remaining four studios received “adequate” ratings. None received a grade of “good” or “excellent.”

“Hollywood films are one of the country’s most visible cultural exports. They not only impact culture in our country, but in other places too,” said GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz, who noted the recent passage of an anti-gay law in Russia that makes it a crime to publicly support “nontraditional” relationships. “It is a very timely report.”

Interstingly films released by the studios’ specialty imprints, such as Universal’s Focus Features, were not included in the tallies. Companies like Focus, Sony Pictures Classics and Fox Searchlight Pictures — all known for their independent sensibilities — released films in 2012 that featured LGBT characters. Under the parameters of GLAAD’s  “study”, the Academy Award winning film “Milk,” which was released by Focus in 2008, wouldn’t have been included in the tally if it were released today.

GLAAD considered whether to include those specialty imprints’ films in the tallies of pictures released by their parent companies, but opted not to in part because it wanted to focus on the area in which studios “commit the majority of their capital and promotional efforts.” (and were most probably the best to hit up for donations)

GLAAD which has lost relevancy and donations in the LGBT community due to recent scandals, mismanagement and lack of focus should know better than to waste of time and money answers that we already know and perhaps actually do something really meaningful to change them.

You can read the full GLAAD 2013 Studio Responsibility Index here. if you want to be bored to death by something that you already know.

Oh fiddle-dee-dee!

Hey Tea Party! John Boehner TRIPLES DOMA Legal Budget! What Ya Gonna Do About That?

The country’s broke and in debt, or so the GOP and Tea Party says but that hasn’t stopped John Boehner and the ReTHUGlican party from tripling the budget to defend the unconstitutional Defense Of Marriage Act.

A modified contract between the General Counsel to the House of Representatives and former Solicitor General Paul Clement of Bancroft PLLC sets a cap of $750,000 which can be raised up to $1.5 million. “It is absolutely unconscionable that Speaker Boehner is tripling the cost for his legal boondoggle to defend the indefensible Defense of Marriage Act,” Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, said in a statement. “At a time when Americans are hurting and job creation should be the top priority, it just shows how out of touch House Republicans have become that they would spend up to $1.5 million dollars to defend discrimination in our country,” Hammill continued.

Financial hysteria, draconian spending cuts, and supremely hypocritical  Republican Leadership to spend additional taxpayer dollars on the unwarranted, unconstitutional and unnecessary defense of DOMA.

You better start crying now BONER we’re coming for you in November!

Cry clown, CRY!

HRC’s “Official” Press Release On Joe Solmonese’s Resignation BYOS (Bring Your Own Shovel To Wade Through The Bullshit)

*Many thanks to Pam Spaulding over at Pam’s House Blend for breaking this story last night and for posting this release since of course the HRC wil not put me on its PR list.  As for Solmonese….  What’s an appropriate way to mark the end of the Solmonese era? How about a big ole cocktail party?

HRC President Joe Solmonese to Depart Early 2012
Board Announces Search Process, Salutes Leadership

WASHINGTON – The co-chairs of the Human Rights Campaign Board of Directors and the HRC Foundation Board today announced that HRC President Joe Solmonese has informed the boards that he will not renew his contract which expires March 31, 2012. Solmonese will remain at the helm of the organization until the completion of his contract to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

At the same time, the co-chairs announced the formation of a search committee to be co-chaired by board members Joni Madison of Hillsborough, N.C., and Dana Perlman of Los Angeles.

“Joe Solmonese is an outstanding leader,” said Anne Fay who co-chairs the Foundation Board of Directors with Andy Linsky. “While we will miss his extraordinary leadership, we enter this next phase, thanks to Joe, in the best place the organization has ever been. Not only has our community secured historic victories, but our membership is larger and more active than at any time in our history, and our financial health is secure even in these difficult economic times.”

“From the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, to the recent passage of marriage equality in New York, Joe has made sure that HRC is an effective and strategic force for positive change,” said Tim Downing, who co-chairs the HRC Board of Directors with Rebecca Tillet. “Over the course of his tenure, he’s set the tone for delivering real reform that matters in peoples’ everyday lives.”

“Leading HRC has been an inspiring experience and a complete privilege,” said Solmonese. “I could not be more proud of our staff, our volunteer leadership and of the extraordinary progress we’ve made together as a community.”

Solmonese’s leadership has taken the organization from 750,000 members and supporters to more than 1,000,000. Additionally, he oversaw significant expansion of HRC’s public education and outreach programs including the launch of the Healthcare Equality index, a more robust Religion and Faith Program and wider reach and success of the Corporate Equality Index. The HRC Foundation also launched the Welcoming Schools program to address family diversity, gender stereotyping, bullying and name calling in schools, as well as the All Children All Families initiative that helps open up adoption agencies to prospective LGBT parents.  The grassroots field operation also expanded – most recently mounting the largest state-level campaign in LGBT movement history resulting in the passage of marriage equality in New York.

When Solmonese began at HRC in 2005, the organization was fighting the Federal Marriage Amendment and now marriage equality is a reality in six states and the District of Columbia with more within sight. Under Solmonese’s leadership we saw the passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and numerous administrative changes from gender identity non-discrimination policies for federal workers to reversing the HIV travel ban to ensuring that equal visitation in federally funded hospitals. Read more on the community’s record of success during Solmonese’s tenure.

“HRC has never been stronger and after nearly seven years, this is the right moment for me to move on,” said Solmonese. “As I explore new professional possibilities, I plan on continuing to pour my heart and soul into improving the lives of members of our community – from battling proposed marriage amendments to creating more equitable workplaces to ensuring the President Obama is reelected for a second term.”

The four volunteer board co-chairs will work with the search committee co-chairs in selecting the full committee as well as securing an executive search firm to assist the organization.

“From the beginning, we asked Joe to give us six months of transition when he decided to leave and he’s done that,” said Tillet. “We have every confidence that we will find and engage a new leader within that timeframe.”

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

I think I just threw up in my mouth…….. a lot.

GLAAD Issues UBER Politically Correct Termonology Handbook So We Don’t Upset The "Anti-Gay Activist"

Have you been wondering what GLAAD was doing with its time between supporting AT&T and giving awards to Ricky Martin and Kim Catrall?

Well, GLAAD and Movement Advancement Project has created “An Ally’s Guide to Terminology: Talking About LGBT People & Equality.” so we know how to talk correctly and don’t upset the bigots, er I mean the “anti-gay activist who use hurtful rhetoric” against us.

So if sounding like Joe Solmonese or Fred Sainz of the HRC is your goal and you want to whitewash and play word games instead of plainly speaking the truth as not to upset and defame the defamers then this handbook is for you!

But obviously its NOT for me.

TOLERANCE IS NOT EQUALITY!

The Human Rights Campaign’s Revenues Dropped By Nearly 20 Percent in 2010. But No Worries, Joe Solmonese STILL Flys First Class

After much pushing and prodding by intrepid LGBT Blogger Mike Petrelis the HRC has finally complied with federal law and made their 2010 IRS 990 filings public. late of course and only after Petrelis’ many rewuests and him filing a complaint with the IRS against the HRC for non-disclosure which is ironic considering that the HRC is going after the National Organization For Marriage about the SAME THING.

To make a long story short in total the HRC had a whopping 17% revenue drop from 2009 – 2010.  From glancing through the 990 forms it seems that a nice chunk of that loss came from telephone solicitation donations. Which ion the end I am sure that HRC will blame on the economy.  But if you are a reader of the LGBT blogs you all know that the community is very dissatisfied with HRC and on many occasions there have been calls to stop donating and comments from many saying that when HRC called for donations they told them to take a walk.  And for good reason considering that they’ve done jack shit.

Other interesting insights from the 990’s.

The top 5 employee’s at HRC combined made over a million dollars least year in salary ans the total is actually more than they spent on political donations and lobbying.

And Joe Solmonese while he did not get a raise, didn’t get a pay cut either and will just have to struggle along only making $303,000 dollars a year for kissing ass and photo ops.  BUT. Joe still gets to fly FIRST CLASS!

HRC = WORST GAY RIGHTS ORGANIZATION EVER!

GLAAD Announces It’s 4th Annual Network Responsibility Index And Leaves The GAYEST Television Channels OUT!

GLAAD’ has named MTV and The CW tops on it’s list of television networks offering the most visibility to LGBT people, according to the group’s fourth annual study,  Which is really bizarre.

Yes, MTV has had gay charcters on some shows since “Undressed” waaaaay back in 1999 which had the best portrayl’s but since then?  It seems that all of MYV’s MTV’s gay or bi male characters are usually there for the purpose of mockery or to test the attitudes of others and MTV’s gay or bi female characters are usually long-haired attention whores who use their sexuality to turn on men with girl-girl action.  Now tell me does that fir into GLAAD’s criteria of “quantity, quality and diversity of images of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and lets not forget the fact that the word “faggot” gets thrown around……ALOT

The most INTERESTING part is that the Index is that GLAAD left “gayest” networks OUT!

Many cable networks remain at the forefront of the television landscape through their consistent inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) stories within series that have broad and mainstream appeal.  The 2009-2010 Network Responsibility Index evaluated and analyzed primetime original cable programming in addition to the broadcast networks’ primetime schedules. GLAAD selected ten of the top basic and premium cable networks, as reported by Nielsen Media Research in June 2009, for review.

GLAAD also created the following review of a select group of networks to acknowledge the considerable quantity and quality of LGBT-inclusive content found outside of the top rated basic and premium cable networks. Though GLAAD did not conduct thorough reviews of the following networks, their contributions in LGBT programming during the 2009-2010 season are worth noting.

The  major cable channels the skipped?  BRAVO (The skipped BRAVO one of the gayest Cable Channels there is.) BBC America, HERE!, HGTV, LOGO, Sundance, and Comedy Central just to name a few.

So GLAAD left the “gayest” channels out.  But did it really leave out LOGO?  After all LOGO is owned by MTV and Viacom.  Is that what gave MTV the edge?  Or was MTV/Viacom the BIG donor of the year?

Who knows?

But really how can the rankings even be taken seriously?  And seriously how can GLAAD even justify the money and time spent on this report.  Does GLAAD not have more pressing matters to attend to that your donation money can be used for?

4.5 Million Dollar DADT Survey Insulting, Offensive, and RIGGED (Survey Documents Included)

This week the Pentagon sent out  to 400,000 active duty and reserve troops about the repealing of DADT A copy of the survey was provided to The Washington Post by the University of California’s Palm Center, which studies gays in the military. The group said it obtained the questionnaire from an active duty service member who received it.
Questions include….

* “Do you currently serve with a male or female service member you believe to be homosexual?”
*  In the unit where you had a leader you believe to be gay or lesbian, about how many other unit members also believed the leader to be gay or lesbian?
*  Have you shared a room, berth or field tent with a service member you believed to be homosexual?
*  Have you been assigned to share bath facilities with an open bay shower that is also used by a service member you believed to be homosexual (and also asked how they might behave in such situations in combat.)
*  If don’t ask, don’t tell is repealed and a gay or lesbian service member attended a military social function with a same-sex partner, which are you most likely to do?”

— Continue to attend military social functions
— Stop bringing my spouse, significant other or other family members with me to military social functions
— Stop attending military social functions
— Something else
— Don’t know
*  If don’t ask, don’t tell is repealed and a gay or lesbian service member attended a military social function with a same-sex partner, which are you most likely to do?”

— Continue to attend military social functions
— Stop bringing my spouse, significant other or other family members with me to military social functions
— Stop attending military social functions
— Something else

We’re not playing games here, we’re trying to figure out what the attitudes of our force are, what the potential problems are with repeal,” said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell. “We need this survey and we need people to participate in this survey to get a sense of the attitudes of the force.”

Bullshit!

Sure you are playing games.  These questions are asking how a person “feels” as opposed to asking relevant questions like: “Were you ever threatened in any way by a gay or lesbian and how?” These questions seem to justify and condone prejudice. If I say my neighbor gives me the heebie-jeebies, is that enough to deny him some of his rights?.  Not only are you playing games this survey is downright insulting and offensive to Gays and Lesbian who are now serving in silence, will serve in the future, have served in the past, and have lost thier lives defending the “so-called” freedom  this country where they themselves must hide and are treated as second class citizens.

Oh and thre cost to us for this offenise skewed crazy survey. 4.5 Million dollars

As SLDN executive director Aubrey Sarvis says:

Surveying the troops is unprecedented; it did not happen in 1948 when President Truman ended segregation and it did not happen in 1976 when the service academies opened to women, Even when the military placed women on ships at sea, the Pentagon did not turn to a survey on how to bring about that cultural change.”

I tell you after all this it’s a wonder why any gay or lesbian still wants to defend this country that treats us as pariahs.

The Pentagon Is Spending 4.4 Million To Outsource Questions Of Soldiers On DADT

Ah, your Goverment tax dollars at work.
Since the Pentagon wouldn’t grant immunit (!) to gay soldiers who are currently serving who want to speak up about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell during their silly 10-month review, (You know how like they ASKED every soildiers opinions on if African American or women could serve before they decied) so they’re spending MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to hire an outside firm to do the quizzing.

Yes, that’s the world we live in under the byzantine rules of DADT.

The Pentagon is hiring Westat, “a Maryland research firm with experience surveying military communities,” to quiz some 350,000 military servicemembers and their families, which includes The Gays. It’s a comprehensive survey, where they’ll “gather the views of troops of all ranks, including officer and enlisted personnel, young and old, married and unmarried, and those serving in different types of units, from combat to medicine.” And it will cost taxpayers $4.4 million.

Just take a moment to think about this: Because federal legislators created a law forbidding gay soldiers from being openly about their sexuality, and these legislators are now considering killing the law, the taxpayer-funded Pentagon must now pay someone else to see whether gay soldiers want the law repealed. It’s not just a logic fail; it’s a policy fail.

The ultimate policy fail, of course, comes from the notion that servicemembers (and their families!!) should even have a say in the matter. Even if the survey results come back showing overwhelming military support for repealing DADT, the decision to repeal should be made because it’s the right thing to do ethically, and the right thing to do for national security.

Only in America kids.
