Queen Elizabeth To Make Televised Worldwide Pledge To Support LGBT Equality

Queen Elizabeth supports LGBT rights

Queen Elizabeth will go before the world tomorrow and speak in support of women’s rights and LGBT equality’ on live television tomorrow as her Majesty signs the new Commonwealth Charter meant to stop discrimination against gay and lesbian people and promote the ‘empowerment’ of women.

According to the Daily Mail, part of the charter will read: ‘We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds’.

Though the Queen’s charter does not explicitly refer to the LGBT community, a diplomatic source said: ‘The impact of this statement on gay and women’s rights should not be underestimated.

‘Nothing this progressive has ever been approved by the United Nations. And it is most unusual for the Queen to request to sign documents in public, never mind call the cameras in’.

This marks the Queen’s first commitment to LGBT rights in her 61-year reign, and her first public appearance since leaving the hospital where she was receiving treatment for a stomach bug.

Her Majesty, who last year celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee marking 60 years as reigning figure in the British Commonwealth, will broadcast before the entire world a message of equality being called a ‘21st Century Magna Carta’.

While this charter does not specifically refer to LGBT rights and therefore it falls into the ‘other’ category actually makes me feel slightly disappointed.

But you have to take the support from wherever it comes royal or not….

Gay UK Couple Refused Hotel Room With One Bed At Major Hotel In London

The Thistle City Barbican Hotel in central London which is run by Guoman Hotel Management,  a UK-based hotel company with a portfolio of 33 hotels,. and the sixth largest hotel chain in the UK and the the largest hotel chain in London has denied a gay couple a King room and insisted they take a Double with two seperate beds.

Nick Hurley, 22, and Gavin Maclean, 28, from Manchester, had booked a double room online at the Thistle City Barbican hotel in central London described how they arrived at the hotel, the receptionist looked them up and down, tapped away on his computer, and said ‘Are you sure you don’t want a room with separate beds?’ and when they said no the receptionis informed them that were no more King rooms available and they would have to sleep in a Double room with seperate beds.

Hurley tweeted;  : ‘Homophobic receptionist at @ThistleHotels refused me & my bf our pre-booked double room. Insisted we take a “family room” w/ separate beds.’ (U.S. Translation in the UK “Double” means “King” and “Family Room” means “Double” )

Thistle Hotels released a statement apologizing to the couple, and said they believe there was a problem with the online booking as no more double rooms were available.

In response, Hurley said: ‘That may be the case, and I’m not saying that wasn’t what happened, but it was the way we were treated at the time.

‘It was the way it was phrased. It was “Are you sure you don’t want single beds?”

‘You know when you are in a situation and you pick up on the cues, you just get a negative tone. It just felt like we were second-class citizens.’

The company offered the couple a free night in any of their hotels in the UK.

‘I just said to them, we aren’t particularly looking to experience that again,’ Hurley said. ‘I just don’t care about another stay. It shouldn’t be something that happened. In what is supposed to be our country’s capital, a diverse place like London, it shouldn’t happen.”

‘Thunderbirds’ Creator Gerry Anderson Dies At 83

Gerry Anderson Lady Penelope

“Thunderbirds are go!” became a catchphrase to generations thanks to Gerry Anderson, puppetry pioneer and British creator of the UK sci-fi hit “Thunderbirds” tleevision show.

Anderson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday at a nursing home near Oxfordshire, England, after being diagnosed with mixed dementia two years ago.

Anderson introduced the use of “supermarionation” _ a puppetry technique using thin wires to control marionettes.

He forever changed the direction of sci-fi entertainment,”son  Jamie Anderson told the Associated Press. “Lots of animation and films that have been made in the past 20 or 30 years have been inspired by the work that he did.”

He said the TV show was perhaps his father’s proudest achievement _ along with the cross-generational appeal of his body of work, which also included TV shows “Stingray” and “Space: 1999,” among others.

“He was very much a perfectionist and was never happy with any of the end products although he may have been happy with the responses,” Jamie said, describing how his father would involve himself in every aspect of production. “He wasn’t just someone who sat in a chair barking orders, he managed to bring together great teams of great people and between them with a like mindset produced some real gems.”

In recent years, Anderson and his son had become active supporters of Britain’s Alzheimer’s Society.  He was determined, despite his own recent diagnosis, to spend the last year of his life speaking out for others living with dementia to ensure their voices were heard and their lives improved

Rest in Peace Gerry Anderson

“Thunderbirds are go!” FOREVER!

Catholic Bishop Attacks UK’s “Nazi Like” Gay Marriage Plans During Christmas Eve Midnight Mass

Last night, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Shrewsbury, used his Christmas sermon to link plans to legalize gay marriage in Britain to the Nazi’s attack on religion.

Said Catholic Bishop Mark Davies at Midnight Mass:

“Past generations have gathered in this cathedral on Christmas night amid many shadows which seemed to obscure the future for them.  We think of the ideologies of the past century, Communism and Nazism, which in living memory threatened to shape and distort the whole future of humanity.  These inhuman ideologies would each challenge in the name of progress the received Christian understanding of the sanctity of human life and the family. Winston Churchill, Britain’s wartime prime minister, a man without clear, religious belief, saw in this deadly struggle nothing less than the defense of Christian civilization.”

Ruth Hunt of gay rights advocate Stonewall called Davies comments “deeply offensive to gay people and their families. Gay people are all too aware of the horrific results of Nazi ideology due to the countless casualties of the Holocaust,” she said.

NOTE:  Just a quick history reminder:

The Nazi’s DID NOT attack the Roman Catholic Church

After the Nazis came to power in Germany, they signed an agreement (Concordat) with the Catholic Church whereby the Vatican would accept the Nazi government in return for the Nazis not interfering with the Catholic Church.

In 1939 Eugenio Pacelli was elected Pope Pius XII. As head of the Catholic Church during the war years, he signed the Concordat with Nazi Germany. The Catholic Church, as an organisation, did not protest against any of the anti-Jewish policies of the Nazi state.

The Vatican knew of the murder of the Jews very early on, as they had religious representatives in all of the occupied countries. Certain individual priests saved Jews but the Catholic Church, as an official body, did nothing  NOTHING significant to save the Jews of Europe.

The “Chris Kluwe Effect” Jumps The Pond – UK Writer Snarks About “Choosing” To Be Gay

MN Viking’s Chris Kluwe has recently proved in the U.S.A.  that the pen is mightier than the sword and  sarcasm and parody can go along way in the helping to win LGBT Equality by creatively calling out the anti-gay brigade using words, creativity and intelligence.

Well the “Kluwe Effect” has jumped over the pond and in todays The Independent, handsome and gay writer  Andy West  writes this snarky tongue in cheek piece called: “Why should I be allowed to marry? I chose to be gay”

I remember the exact moment I chose to be gay. I was sitting at home contemplating my predictable life of automatic acceptance and uncomplicated social assimilation and procreation and I thought, ‘How dull.’ I whipped out my Manchester United biro from my Pamela Anderson pencil case and started brainstorming ways to inject some adversity into my future…. [snip]

I admit it was tough becoming gay at first. I had to stop playing football with my mates and I wasn’t allowed to walk normally any more. It took quite a while for me to get the mince right and it took months of studying Mr Humphries from Are You Being Served before I perfected the necessary lispy voice and drag-act mannerisms. I was only 13 so my moustache was wispy at best and my teachers told me that studded leather chaps and roller skates were not in keeping with school uniform. Besides, they clashed with my tie.

Yes, deciding to be gay was the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do. But I knew it would be worth it! I salivated at the thought of spending years wondering whether or not my friends and family would accept me. I shivered with excitement at the thought of fighting gangs of baying drunken lads outside gay pubs. And most of all, I couldn’t wait to spend my days annoying right-thinking people by demanding equality, in spite of my own selfish decision to be a homo. …[snip]

We are within sodomy distance of our ultimate goal. Within months our recruitment of new gay teenagers will be made easier. We will have adverts on television like the RAF!  ‘Boys and girls!’ It will declare. ‘Do as I did. Reject the easy route. Throw caution to the wind. Risk being ostracised and ridiculed. Make it hideously complicated and expensive to have a family. Invite persecution into your life. Boys forget about boobs they’re rubbish. Girls, look at boobs they’re lovely. Choose strife, Choose an adopted family, Choose a fucking big television to watch musicals on, choose your future, choose to be gay…Go on! It’ll really annoy everyone!’

No “Lustful Cockmonsters” or “Sparkleponies” but Mr. West does a right proper job of using snark and circumstance to prove his point.

Carry On Sergeant!

Bigoted UK Bus Driver Refuses to Drive Bus with Sign ‘Some People are Gay. Get Over It!’

A homophobic “Christian” bus driver in left passengers waiting for more than 20 minutes after refusing to drive a bus because it had an ad from LGBT rights group Stonewall on it that read “Some People are Gay. Get Over It,”

Daily Mail reports:

Among those on the bus was Rebecca Neill, 25, from Herringthorpe, South Yorkshire, who had boarded the 5.25pm service at Rotherham and had just taken her seat when the commotion began.

‘Once the driver had let us on the bus, he was meant to be swapping with another driver, but when his replacement wouldn’t get on they just left us there while they had an argument outside,’ she said.

‘There were quite a few passengers arguing with him and several drivers as well. Someone was shouting at him: “You can’t do that, it’s disgusting. Then another driver got on and explained what was going on. He apologised and said that the poster wasn’t acceptable to this Christian, but that he didn’t agree with what the guy was doing. ‘I just thought it was disgusting. I would never say: ‘I’m not getting on your bus because you believe in God and I don’t.’ He’s a bus driver — he’s going to come across all sorts of people. Does he seriously think he has never had a gay person on his bus? I think it’s wrong that he can cause such a fuss while people are trying to go places.”

The bus company has said that they are aware of what happened and has spoken to the driver and the matter has  been resolved and apologized to passengers.  But didn’t go into details about what the resolution actually was.

My personal take on what the resolution should have been:

Some people should be fired. Get over it.

Homophobic Brit MEP Nick Griffin Investigated Over Anti-Gay Bed and Breakfast Tweets

Well known UK homophobe and bigot Nick  Griffin, the chairman of the British National Party and a Member of European  Parliament has come under investigation by the Cambridge Police who said they’ve “received a number of calls”  and are looking into the complaints made about homophobic tweets that Griffin posted regarding the Michael Black and John Morgan’s court win against a bed and breakfast  that refused them because they’re gay.

Among the tweets on the @nickgriffinmep account was two which read: “So  Messrs Black & Morgan, at [their address]. A British Justice team will come  up to Huntington & give you a…

“…bit of drama by way of reminding you that an English couple’s home is  their castle. Say No to heterophobia!”

An earlier tweet on the North West region MEP’s account had asked for the  couple’s address and then said: “We’ll hold demo… for rights of all home  owners, gays included, to rent or not rent rooms to whomsoever they wish.”

And these aren’t the first homophobic statements by the bigoted Griffin.

After the Admiral Duncan gay bar was bombed by a Neo-Nazi in 1999, Griffin blamed gay pride: “The TV footage of dozens of ‘gay’ demonstrators flaunting their perversion in front of the world’s journalists  showed just why so many ordinary people find these creatures so repulsive.”

After Griffin’s Tweets about Michael Black and John Morgan’s court win he went even further and tweeted anti-gay messages trying to link Peter Gary Tatchell the Australian-born British political campaigner best known for his work with LGBT social movements to pedophilia.

British Prime Minister David Cameron Promises To Legalize Gay Marriage By The Year 2015

Great Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron yesterday promised that gay  marriage will be legalized by the year 2015 saying:  ‘I am absolutely determined that this  Coalition government will follow in that tradition by legislating for gay  marriage in this Parliament.

Cameron also compared the Church’s opposition to same-sex marriage to that of the Conservative party who once ‘locked out’ homosexuals.

Mr Cameron, who was speaking at a Number 10 Baker Street  reception for members of the LGBT community,  has promised his MPs a free vote on the issue adding: It’s something I feel passionately about and I think if it’s good enough for  straight people like me, it’s good enough for everybody and that’s why we should  have gay marriage and we will.

Prime Ministers in the Scottish Parliament  yesterday promised to bring forward laws enabling same-sex marriage by the start  of 2015.

Mr Cameron wants similar laws in England and  Wales by that year also.

Gay Geek News – Dr Who, Diana Rigg and Jennifer Saunders. BLIMEY!

Doctor Who  is bringing back two popular lesbian characters in an upcoming episode.  Silurian Reptilian Madame Vastra and her human companion, Jenny who an earlier storyline in Victorian London, were shown as lovers.

Head writer Steven Moffat told SFX  he loved Vastra and Jenny and felt they “really cut through as characters, given  how little screen time they had.” Joining the couple in the episode, which airs  in 2013, is British actress Dame Diana Rigg (Emma Peel!) and her daughter Rachael Stirling.

Earlier this year Moffat has had a little whoopsie when has accidentally outed the character of River Song on Twitter stating that Captain Jack isn’t the only bisexual in the good Doctor’s cadre of travelling companions.

Also this past June Jennifer Saunders (Edina Monsoon) herself and creator of AbFab and also he upcoming  Spice Girls musical,  (shudder) returned to Brit television, playing the warden of a women’s  prison in the BBC 3 comedy Dead Boss

London World Pride 2012 A Rousing Success Despite Mishandling and Cutbacks – Video

Stepping off from London’s Baker Street and led by the ‘Veterans of 1972′, the organizers of London’s first pride parade and without floats or vehicles due to last-minute cuts.  London World Pride returned more to its political roots and was a rousing success according to reports coming from the UK.

Famed UK activist Peter Tatchell who marched with the veterans under the banner ‘Decriminalise Homosexuality Worldwide” told PinkNews.co.uk:

“Despite the failures of the parade organisers, the Mayor of London and Westminster City Council, we’re here and having a fabulous WorldPride.

We’re celebrating not only the global struggle for LGBT freedom but also 40 years since the first gay pride parade in Britain. These are momentous, historic occasions. The spirit here today is amazing, it’s much more like the original spirit of pride in 1972. Even without the floats and razzamatazz, we are having a fabulous time.”

The number of spectators was also noticeably down and the march was restricted to one side of the road.   Problems arose last week when WorldPride/ Pride London organizers revealed that a shortfall in funding, estimated to be around £66,000 would mean drastic last-minute changes to the event which many say have undermined the organizers for waiting to the last minute to admit it needed funding help. While many are blaming London’s Mayor Boris Johnson for not helping more after the funding problems were revealed.

Johnson was noticeably absent and did not attend the event.

But despite all the problems the spectators and marchers banded together and made the best it.

Angela Mason, former director of Stonewall and one of the 1972 veterans summed it up nicely:  “Well, I think we’ve got it together again, despite all the obstacles. That’s always been the history of Pride.
