In a news story that flew under the radar this month is the upsetting news that transgender rights activists clashed with authorities in New York City on November 18th during a protest against a “Let Women Speak” event, which they claim incites hatred against the transgender community but not before displaying some hatred against the gay community themselves.
The clashes unfolded at City Hall Park, near City Hall in Manhattan. A police spokesperson said nine people were arrested.
Opponents have called the speaking tour a “TERF” event. TERF stands for trans-exclusionary radical feminist. Transgender rights activists have accused TERFs of excluding trans people, and particularly transgender women, from women’s rights advocacy.
In the crowd at the event was Stonewall veteran Jim Fouratt former nightclub impresario. He is best known for his involvement with the Stonewall riots and as co-founder of the Danceteria. Fouratt was singled out by trans “NY fashion models” Amara Velasquez & Casil McArthur who spit on and kept calling the 81 year old Fouratt “fucking, faggot” repeatedly in his face.
In September of 2022 gay Stonewall veteran Fred Sargeant was attacked after holding a sign with the phrase “Gay Not Queer” at the 39th Burlington Pride Parade in Vermont.
Turns out 'equal opportunity hands' was screaming abuse at Stonewall veteran and gay rights activist Jim Fouratt. https://t.co/eM4UFqDkw8
