Court Rules In Favor of LGBT Journalist – UCF Must Turn Over All Mark Regnerus Study Records

John Becker

In a lawsuit broght forth by LGBT journalist and activist John Becker (pictured above) of the Bilerico Project a Florida state court judge has ruled that the University of Central Florida must turn over all records related to the publication of the debunked 2012 study conducted by Mark Regnerus that demonizes gay and lesbian parents. Regnerus’ research has been called into legal question not merely for its questionable results, but also because the study was underwritten and backed by the Witherspoon Institute, and other anti-gay organizations.

In the opinion, Orange County Circuit Judge Donald Grincewicz ruled that emails and documents possessed by University of Central Florida (UCF) related to the flawed study’s peer-review process must be turned over to Becker, who sought the documents under Florida’s Public Records Act. UCF houses the journal Social Science Research, which published the Regnerus study, and the editor of the journal, UCF Professor James Wright, led the peer-review process for the research. Becker is represented by the Law Office of Andrea Flynn Mogensen, P.A., and Barrett, Chapman & Ruta, P.A.

Over two hundred scholars as well as the American Sociological Association were quick to point out the study’s glaring lies and biases. These problems also included conflicts of interest among individuals and organizations who were both funding and working on the study, as well as a questionable peer review process.

Regnerus’ “research” has been widely used by opponents of a marriage  and LGBT equality into law. And Regnerus’ phoney research and bogus anti-gay findings has been most damaging in Russia – where it has been used as evidence for the heinous legislation that criminalized “homosexual propaganda”

Mark Regnerus Releases Another Anti-Gay Study Linking Straight Porn To Gay Marriage

In latest round of junk science trash lobbed for the sole purpose of demeaning gay  people and undermining our quest for equal rights.   The KING of biased anti-gay bullshit propaganda studies  Mark Regnerus, associate professor of sociology at University of Texas at  Austin, is saying that there is now a correlation between straight men watching porn and their support for gay marriage among  men.

Yes that’s right.

Straight porn is the cause of straight men supporting marriage equality.

Using recycled data from his seriously flawed The New Family Structures Study, a project for which he was the  principal investigator and was financially backed by anti-gay organizations.,  Regnerus states that among men who view porn daily or almost daily, though, 54 percent strongly  agreed (not just agreed) that gay marriage should be legal while only 13 percent  who said they viewed porn monthly or less believed the same, Regnerus wrote for The Witherspoon Institute’s “Public  Discourse

“In the end, contrary to what we might wish to think, young adult men’s support  for redefining marriage may not be entirely the product of ideals about  expansive freedoms, rights, liberties, and a noble commitment to fairness,”  Regnerus concludes. “It may be, at least in part, a byproduct of regular  exposure to diverse and graphic sex acts.”

Regnerus “study” was funded by antigay rights authorities of the Witherspoon Institute, who also are closely connected to antigay rights organization the National Organization for Marriage.

AUDIO – NPR Gives 16 Minute Open Platform To FRC Hate Group Associated Witherspoon Institute To Spread Anti-Gay Propaganda

Yesterday on NPR Neal Conan of “Talk of the Nation”  gave an unfettered 16+ minute platform to Matthew Franck, director of the William E. and Carol G. Simon Center on Religion and the Constitution at the Witherspoon Institute who in a anti-gay propaganda piece for The Washington Post Sunday which we posted about here defending anti-gay hate groups that “the charge of ‘hate’ is not a contribution to argument; it’s the recourse of people who would rather not have an argument at all.”

NPR and Neal Conan allowed Franck to play the victim card freely for these hate groups and didn’t bother to challenge he accuracy of any of Franck’s or do any research into Franck or the William E. and Carol G. Simon Center on Religion and the Constitution at the Witherspoon Institute.

If they did this is what NPR would have found out about the Witherspoon Institute

The Witherspoon Institute is a Christian Right propaganda group with ties to Opus Dei and the Family Research Council — the latter of which is one of the aforementioned hate groups. Surprise, surprise.

Luis E. Tellez, the President of Witherspoon Institute, is an Opus Dei cleric. Robert P. George, Senior Fellow of WI and a member of its Academic Committee, serves on the board of FRC. The Witherspoon Institute is thick as thieves with the FRC.

It amazes me that NPR gave Franck an open platform for his pitiful exercise in propaganda, which was to discredit the Southern Poverty Law Center.  Franck conveniently omits to mention the real reason those groups are listed as hate groups: “… based on their propagation of known falsehoods — claims about LGBT people that have been thoroughly discredited by scientific authorities — and repeated, groundless name-calling.” and has nothing to do with opposition to same-sex marriage.”

NPR and the Media in general seems to easily fall for the tactic that hate groups like FRC and AFA use of having multiple umbrella groups that seemingly are not connected but in reality are like one big hateful incestuous family.  And not only did NPR let Franck and his groups credentials go unchecked they gave him an open platform with the host so uninformed and no counterpoint to challenge the accuracy of many of Franck’s statements which were blatant lies. Not only is it extremely poor media journalism.  Its dangerous.

I ask the NPR, Talk of the Nation and any other media outlets interested to give me equal time to rebut Francks lies and also to expose the The Witherspoon Institute and other organizations who work under and with these anti-gay hate groups to spread propaganda and dehumanize and harm the LGBT Community.
