BBC Radio Fires Talk Show Host Iain Lee For Calling Out Bigotry and Homophobia On His Show

Ilan Lee Fired From BBC

BBC radio talk show host Iain Lee has been fired from his job after a fight with his bosses sparked by Lee calling out anti-gay views as ‘bigotry’ on his morning talk show..

During Lee’s breakfast show lawyer Libby Powell of the Christian Legal Center who was on the show to defend a reverend who had been accused of being homophobic after citing anti-gay verses from the Bible at a prison service

Powell said that homosexuality was a sin, according to the bible – and Lee repeatedly described her support of anti-gay passages as ‘homophobic’ and ‘bigoted’, and asked if she ‘supported bigotry’ as she read out supporting passages from the bible.

Powell then denied the Bible’s anti-gay passages were hateful, saying that the book’s teachings did not only attack gay people, but were about “the lifestyle”, including “people who have sex before marriage” and “people who steal”.

The BBC and Lee later apologized, the interview was “at several points inappropriate”.

Shortly after the BBC announced that Iain Lee had “left” the show.

“I’m proud of @iainlee for calling out a homophobe and appalled at BBC Three Counties Radio for lacking the balls to support him,” one supporter tweeted.

A representative for Iains declined to comment on the story.

LGBT Straight Ally Todd Stiefel To Match $100,000 in Donations to Defeat North Carolina’s Amendment One

Prous North Carolinian, philanthropist and straight ally Todd Stiefel has pledged to match every dollar up to $100,000  that will be donated to Protect All NC Families’ campaign to defeat Amendment One, which would constitutionally ban same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships.

Writes Stiefel:

My name is Todd Stiefel. My wife, Diana, and I have a passionate belief that our country would be better off if we put people above politics. Families in North Carolina matter far more than a divisive constitutional amendment such as Amendment One, and that is why we are now offering a $1 for $1 match up to $100,000 to the campaign.

The campaign to defeat the amendment only has three more weeks to get out the word about the harms that North Carolina would face if Amendment One passes on May 8. That is why we are stepping up now to give to the campaign. We hope that you can join us.

The momentum against Amendment One has grown substantially in recent weeks. Former GOP Gubernatorial nominee Richard Vinroot, Justice Bob Orr, John Hood and other conservatives have advocated against it in recent weeks. Governor Bev Perdue came out passionately against it last week in a powerful video, and the next morning Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers condemned the amendment as well.

A great man to speak up, stand up and give to help protect the rights of others.

We need more straight allies like this.  (That’s a hint Obama)
