SOPA Blackout Protest A Success! – Senators Drop Lie Flies From Supporting Bill

The Hill is reporting that todays Internet SOPA Protest has resulted in at least five key senators have abandoning their support of the Senate’s Protect IP Act.

The group includes: Florida Republican Marco Rubio, a Tea Party favorite; Missouri Republican Roy Blunt, a member of the GOP leadership, Texas Republican Jon Cornyn,: Utah Republican Orrin Hatch and Arkansas Democrat John Boozman, who had been sponsors of the bill.

Even the evil Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), came out against the bills, calling them “misguided bills that will cause more harm than good.”

“When protecting intellectual property rights, we must not undermine free speech, threaten economic growth, or impose burdensome regulations,” DeMint tweeted.

Opposition is also building in the House. Two of the original Republican co-sponsors of SOPA, Reps. Ben Quayle (Ariz.) and Lee Terry (Neb.), withdrew their support Tuesday before the protests began, and scores of other lawmakers took to Twitter Wednesday to affirm their opposition.

Especially Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of NY.  I cannot believe that a Senator who fas fought so strongly for freedom and equality stands behind SOPA and sponsor SOPA.  Anyway you’d think she’d have more important legisation to work on.

Like maybe getting ENDA passed and DOMA repealed.  Right Kristen?

Back2Stonewall.com To Join Wikipedia, Google And Others And Go Dark 1/18 In Protest Of SOPA & PIPA

We at Back2Stonewall.com will be joining Twitter, Google, The Raw Story and over 7000+ other sites and  will join thousands of tech activists, entrepreneurs and corporations on Wednesday in protesting the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act, and PIPA ontomorrow on January 18th by going dark from 8:00 am – 8:00pm EST.

In addition to the Web protests, thousands of New York City tech activists and entrepreneurs are preparing for a Wednesday protest outside the Manhattan offices of Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Kristin Gillibrand (D-N.Y.). (BOO Kristen.  Hey, don’t you have some pro-LGBT legislation to work on maybe….like ENDA!?) Both Schumer and Gillibrand formally support Protect IP. Increasingly in recent years the Big Apple has become an active hub for tech firms, with many new companies and their venture capital supporters locating there rather than Silicon Valley.

Back2Stonewall.com stand against both SOPA and PIPA has nothing to do with piracy. Whether you think piracy is the worst thing ever or everybody’s right, there are other, far better and fairer ways of preventing it. This argument is about not giving the US government control over the internet, it’s about not letting capitalism and greed poison the genuine freedom of the net
