Gay History – True Then, True Now: The Adult Video Association’s Public Service Announcement On Personal Freedom (1982) – Video

Adult Video Association Public Service… by Movieboy5280

When the Religious Right first came along in the early 1980’s, then known as the Moral Minority this message from the Adult Video Association was tacked onto the beginning or end of every adult movie in the United States warning them of the loss of their personal freedoms by the hands of these conservative intolerant religious extremists.

If more people rented porn and watched the opening and credits of porn back then and took action we might not still be in the same mess today 35+ years later.

U.S. State Department Meets With Ugandan Leaders Over “Kill The Gays Bill”

The U.S. State Department envoy met with Ugandan leaders over the weekend to express deep concern over the countries anti-gay measure, the so-called “Kill the Gays” bill which could be headed to the Ugandan parliment as soon as this week.

Victoria Nuland, a State Department spokesperson, said during a daily briefing Monday that Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson met with high-profile leaders in Uganda “over the weekend” and raised concerns about the bill, which among other things would punish homosexual acts with life in prison.

“As we have regularly said, we call on the parliament of Uganda to look very carefully at this because Uganda’s own Human Rights Council has made clear that if this were to pass, it would put the country out of compliance with its own international human rights obligations,” Nuland said. “And so, Assistant Secretary Carson had a chance to make that point again and our strong opposition to this, to the president, to the parliament and to key decision makers in Uganda.”

It’s good to see the State Department on this and this assault on decency should be rejected and severely ostracized by the US government.  And if passed every cent of aid should be cut off to Uganda.

But lets not forget where this all started and who is responsible for spreading such hate.  With America’s own religious rightwing extremist doing “missionary” work in Africa.

But where are the voices of America’s REAL Christians condemning the actions in Uganda and the religious right?

Over and over we hear not all “christians” are evil, and I am sure they are not.  But the good ones, the REAL ones need to prove it and speak out against and stand up to the right-wing religious extremist and the heinous work that they do and how they have perverted Christianity.

Because until they do this will not stop.

Two Kansas Cities Under Attack After Voting to Extend LGBT Anti-Discrimination Protections

The Kansas cities of both Salina and Hutchinson are currently under attack from the religious right because earlier this year both town City Commissions voted to extend anti-discrimination ordinances to protect the LGBT community.

The Salina City Commission passed the anti-discrimination ordinance in May by  3-2 vote and since then, church leaders and other anti-gay groups have gathered enough petition signatures to put the issue to a public vote on the November ballot. A repeal effort on a similar bill is also underway in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The First Southern Baptist Church in Salina was instrumental in gathering petition signatures to put the issue on the November ballot. Senior Pastor Richard Edds said he and his congregation began organizing the minute they heard the ordinance had passed. The Kansas Family Policy Council collected 2,325 signatures, but only needed 1,297 to get the repeal attempt before the city commission

“The ordinance would codify a type of behavior and give them [LGBT people] special rights that will influence businesses, landowners and our churches,” Edds said. “That infringes on our freedom of religion to express ourselves. The ordinance violates the standards of God’s word. They’re asking us to do away with what God has to say about this behavior and lifestyle, and we won’t do it.”

Edds said he believes homosexuality is a choice and that LGBT people need Jesus to transform them in “his image.”

“We don’t hate these people,” he said. “We are opposed to their immorality. It’s like they are trying to change the game of life and force us to accept their way of living as normative, and it’s not normative at all.”

“Religious liberties are key when you consider something like this,” said Robert Noland, executive director of the Kansas Family Policy Council,  “(The ordinance) does impose upon religious liberties, which is in the First Amendment, so we think it is important to hold strong to those liberties and defend them wherever we can.”

Perhaps both Edds and Nolan need to be reminded that a person’s religion is protected and they cannot be discriminated against under Federal and State Law. And that most certainly IS A CHOICE and is currently being forced on man as a “way of living as normative” where to many it is not.

“Pastor” Blames Hurricane Isaac On New Orleans Gay Festival

Hurricane Issac made landfall off the Gulf of Mexico several days ago, yet some are blaming a local New Orleans fesitval on the storm. Each year, New Orleans has a fesitivity called Southern Decadence which to locals is commonly called “Gay Mardi Gras”. The nearly week long festivity is now being blamed as the reason the strom made landfall by “religious leaders”.

“Pastor ” Jon McTernan.wrote in his blog that there are asinine  comparisons between  Hurricane Isaac and Hurricane Katrina happening exactly seven years apart because it took God seven days to create everything. Here’s more of his absurd proclamation:

The hurricane is scheduled to hit the New Orleans area on Wednesday, August 29 which is the beginning of an annual homosexual event in New Orleans called “Southern Decadence.”

The church, city and nation have not repented and the homosexual agenda is far worse than it was in 2005. New Orleans is still hosting Southern Decadence with open homosexuality manifesting in the streets of the city. It could be that God is putting an end to this city and its wickedness. The timing of Hurricane Isaac with Southern Decadence is a sign that God’s patience with America’s sin is coming to an end.”

This coincides with the Disturbed and hypocritical rantings of Rush Limbaugh, who made similar jests saying that President Obama somehow controlled the weather:

“What could be better for the Democrats than the Republicans to cancel a day of this?..I’m alleging no conspiracy. I’m just telling you, folks, when you put this all together in this timeline, I’m telling you, it’s unbelievable!”

Despite the “pastor’s” religious claims, the Southern Decadence festivity is still on schedule going from August 29 to September 3. Is this how the religious right explain all acts of nature because of us gays? Ridiculous.

In More Religion vs Freedom News…More Religious “Leaders” Protest

Yesterday a letter was written protesting the US Embassy’s involvement in a gay pride parade being held in Prague this Saturday. Religious leaders from 11 countries along with two southern baptists from the US have signed this letter in support.

An excerpt from the letter sponsored by World Congress of Families states their dismay saying they can’t “imagine a worse form of cultural imperialism than Washington trying to force approval of the ‘gay’ agenda on societies with traditional values.” Really? So we should show other countries how we hate instead of how we show support? What horrible logic.

Another excerpt from the letter goes as follows “At the directive of the president of the United States, Washington is aggressively promoting the ‘gay’ agenda internationally, including same-sex ‘marriage’ and the stigmatization and marginalization of any who object to the same,” Again, horrible logic.

The letter continues saying that LGBT have the same rights as citizens (NO WE DO NOT) but “this does not include the ‘right’ to force others to validate a lifestyle they find objectionable, for religious or other reasons. It also does not include the right of men to marry men and women to marry women.”

An excellent point in a discussion I read earlier brilliantly stated that “a percentage of our tax-paying citizens are being illegally denied the right to obtain a license to be married by a government institution based on religious morals, which is against the separation of church and state.” So LGBT that want to get married can’t and we are being denied equal rights.

Even with the boycotts of companies like Starbucks and General Mills, and it’s likely REI will soon be boycotted too, still that one question still hasn’t been answered by the religious right that opposes gay marriage? What does it take from you? *Crickets*

I still don’t get how showing support for gays in other countries challenges or takes away any rights from anyone who isn’t LGBTQ. No one is asking or forcing you to participate so what is the problem? No not everyone agrees with the “interpretation” of your religion. Also, your religion has no right in our government.

President Obama’s Support for Gay Marriage Being Used As Ploy From The Religious Right

Do you think President Obama’s evolution in supporting gay marriage will affect African American voters in Novemeber> thats what religious right groups would like you to think.

Amos Brown, NAACP leader and b\baptist Minister, responded last week after a memo from NOM (National Organization for Marriage) was made public because of a lawsuit.  The statement being issued to these African American  baptist leaders are “We as black Baptists are not single-issue persons, and we see more important things than getting stuck on this matter of whether or not there should be same-sex marriages.”“are working to enlighten the people”

Brown sees this as a ploy to divide African Americans and the LGBTQ community that will “drive a wedge between gays and blacks — two key Democratic constituencies.”

Brown says the goal of this initiative of NOM was to “find, equip, energize and connect African-American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots….”

But the religious leaders like Brown saw through this deception stating “we contend that this is a racist ploy –It is divisive, but it was birthed, it was created by, white evangelicals who have shown themselves to be duplicitous and contradictory in their stances.”

Brown, who served as a member in the NAACP when the resolution passed to support President Obama’s support of gay marriage, also pointed out the hypocrisy of those that condemned GOP nominee Romney for being Mormon but once he got the republican bid for presidency “changed their tune, jumped on the bandwagon, jumped in bed with him.”

Overall Brown sees the actions by the religious right using President Obama’s support of gay marriage is not based in faith but in “power, politics and money that they are creating these kinds of alliances.” political gain to divide the black community”.

Mainly from what I’ve seen is that President Obama’s support of gay marriage hasn’t had a negative impact on the African American Community. Many including celebrities like Jay Z, Will Smith and others that believe that by i\and large the african American community’s support is evolving along with President Obama. Your little scheme NOM has not gone unnoticed and the African American Community is not some scapegoat for your bigoted cause.

Right Wingers Fall For RYANAIR “Porn On Planes” Joke Advertisement

RYANAIR is an Irish low-cost airline that uses a wicked sense of humor to promote it’s low cost flights.

In the past RYANAIR has said that since its airfare was the lowest anywhere it was considering charging passengers £1 to use the toilet on their flights, made an advertisement for its new Belfast route which showed Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness (an ex-commander in the Provisional IRA) standing alongside Gerry Adams with a speech bubble which said “Ryanair fares are so low even the British Army flew home, and one ad featured a model scantily dressed as a schoolgirl, accompanied by the words “Hottest back to school fares”.

Well this time RYANAIR’s newest joke publicity stunt is for“Porn on Planes” where  customers could download through an inflight app porno movies to watch on tablets and smart phones.

And guess what?  The Wingnuts at Morality in Media – PornHarms.com fell for it and have started a campaign against it.

Can you believe this? How would you feel if you were forced to sit next to someone during a long flight who is engrossed in a porno? If Ryanair implements this plan, it certainly won’t take long for other airlines to follow suit. The harm from pornography is now at pandemic levels! Research shows that it is leading to life-long addictions for both children and adults, increased demand for sex trafficking, violence against women, broken marriages, the exploitation of women and children and so much more. WE MUST MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD ON THIS! WE DO NOT WANT PORN ON AIRPLANES!

I must say that it is interesting that they are against mythical pornography on planes but are quite alright with the TSA groping everyone who flies.
