Trump Administration’s DOJ Files Brief Supporting LGBT Discrimination In SCOTUS Cake Case

In a major upcoming Supreme Court case that weighs equal rights with “religious liberty”, the Trump administration on Thursday sided with a Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

In July 2012, David Mullins and Charlie Craig went to Denver’s Masterpiece Cake Shop, owned by Jack Phillips (above) ,  looking for a cake to celebrate the couple’s upcoming nuptials.

Phillips denied the couple’s request and later admitted he had turned away other same-sex couples as a matter of policy.

In 2013, a judge ruled against Phillips. The Colorado Civil Rights Division’s [CCRD’s] decision noted evidence in the record that Phillips had expressed willingness to take a cake order for the “marriage” of two dogs, but not for the commitment ceremony of two women, and that he would not make a cake for a same-sex couple’s wedding celebration “just as he would not be willing to make a pedophile cake.”

Phillips and his lawyers,  anti-gay legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, have been appealing the ruling since, and losing

The L.A. Times reports:

Acting Solicitor Gen. Jeffrey B. Wall filed a friend-of-the-court brief arguing that the cake maker’s rights to free speech and the free exercise of religion should prevail over a Colorado civil rights law that forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation.

“A custom wedding cake is a form of expression,” he said. “It is an artistic creation that is both subjectively intended and objectively perceived as a celebratory symbol of a marriage.” And as such, the baker has a free-speech right under the 1st Amendment to refuse to “express” his support for a same-sex marriage, Wall argued.

The case of the Colorado cake maker has emerged as the latest battle in the culture wars. It is a clash between the religious rights of a conservative Christian against gay rights and equal treatment for same-sex couples.

The DOJ’s decision to support Phillips is the latest in a series of steps the Trump administration has taken to rescind Obama administration positions favorable to gay rights and to advance new policies on the issue.

North Carolina’s Anti-Gay Benham Bros Talk Gay Sex, Daddy Issues, and “Depraved Minds” – Audio

North Carolina's Anti-Gay Benham Bros Talk Gay Sex, Daddy Issues, and "Depraved Minds" - Audio

There is only one thing North Carolina’s own closet-case bigoted Benham Brothers love to do other than being on their knees with each other and that is talk about gay sex and Daddy issues! It’s constantly on their…..minds for for some reason.

This week they’ve visited Mat ( I never got a case I didn’t lose) Staver and Liberty Counsel’s “Faith and Freedom” radio program where they decided to denounce the “darkened heart” and depraved mind” of the gays.

Right Wing Watch:

Religious Right activists David and Jason Benham were the guests again today on Liberty Counsel’s “Faith and Freedom” radio program, where David declared that marriage equality is a satanic attack on God that is a consequence of society having been taken over by those with a “darkened heart” and a “depraved mind.”

“We’ve deconstructed gender,” he said. “It’s an ultimate attack on the Creator … So this is where we find ourselves as a culture, is with a depraved mind where we’re celebrating and even forcing others to participate in immorality.”

“What the Lord wants,” Benham added, “He wants us to have life and this whole deconstruction of gender, this whole redefinition of marriage, all of these things is a mask for Satan who is robbing and killing and destroying these people who desperately want life. They want to seek the love of a father, trying to find it in the arms of another man and they’ll never find it there.”

Obviously the boys aren’t into cuddling each other.

But do they swallow?

Baptist Church In Virginia Asked To Leave Affiliation After Ordaining Gay Man

The Ginter Park Baptist Church in Richmond, VA has been affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia for almost 100 years. Now, they’re being asked to stop affiliation with the group, because they have chosen a gay Pastor as their congregation leader and if they don’t withdraw by December, they will get kicked out.

Said John Upton, Executive Director of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) and the Virginia Baptist Mission Board.

“”We’ve asked them to withdraw because we prefer they make that decision by the end of the year, but if not we would stop receiving their contributions.

We also highly esteem the Biblical view of marriage and the way that most of our churches view that is they affirm the Biblical principals of marriage being between one man and one woman. There’s no celebration here at all. There’s deep grief in this and we’re losing some friends here.”

Upton went on to say that, “Virginia Baptists really have no desire to join many groups that demonize or shun or reject homosexuals. Those who struggle with same-sex attraction and I also say that we stand firmly against bigotry, violence, prejudice, slander, and harassment of any group or individual.”

“I think it very unfortunate that the BGAV continues to uphold an archaic understanding and judgmental interpretation of scripture -that in the end says very little and is certainly inconclusive about this issue,” said Rev Warren Hammonds, who is on the Board of the People of Faith For Equality in Virginia. He is also a former minister and employee of the BGAV.  “Its stance and action along with Dr. Upton’s statement basically presumes to decide for God whom God calls, and places the notion that all of God’s children being created in God’s image into a small, confining, comfortable box. The action also goes against the long-known Baptist principle of the autonomy of the local church.”

On the Ginter Park website, the church still claims an affiliation with the Baptist General Association of Virginia, saying they are continuing their membership and proud to be part of the BGVA.

Gay Texas Couple Fear For Their Lives After Anti-Gay Pastor Writes Article In Local Paper

A gay couple in a Clarendon, are in fear for their lives and believes hateful vandalism found on their home’s front porch is linked to an anti-gay article written by a local minister.

Joshua Harrison and Jeremy Jeffers woke up last Monday morning to find their front porch spray painted with a gay slurs along with a death threat.

“It was a nice message painted on our front porch right in front of our door,” Harrison said. “The message says ‘leave or die fags.'”

Harrison and Jeffers said they have been together as a couple for about a year and a half and have never had a problem in their neighborhood before.  The vandalism on their front porch has made them scared for their lives.

“I’m absolutely terrified because if there are people in this town that are willing to go to the lengths to vandalize our house and to scare us, they they might be going the lengths to do physical harm on us,” Harrison said

Two weeks earlier the local newspaper the Clarendon Enterprise published as advert written by Clarendon Church of Christ Pastor Chris Moore (pictured left), the ad depicted the alleged platform of the ‘Homosexual Movement”

The ad listed seven bullet points and warn residents about the homosexual movement, including a line that said “Folks, don’t be fooled, the ‘gay’ agenda isn’t about ‘equal’ rights for gay couples. Their agenda would force everyone to compromise their values, make our children legal prey for pedofiles”

“Two weeks after this article comes out in the newspaper that people in town are starting to be rude to us and then we get out front porch vandalized,” Harrison said.

Pastor Moore said his advertisement was factual but he does not defend the crime on Joshua and Jeremy. What I wrote was facts and if I wrote something that wasn’t factual – I would gladly fix it,” he said.

Anti-Gay Maryland Democrat Emmett C. Burns Jr Wants To Censor Pro Gay Marriage Ravens Football Star Brendon Ayanbadejo

CLICK TO READ THE FULL LETTER – Emmett-Burns-letter-over-Brendon-Ayanbadejo

Maryland Democratic Delegate Emmett C. Burns Jr. (D-Baltimore County) is shocked and upset that  Baltimore Ravens  linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, publically supports s gay marriage.  So upset in fact that Burns recently wrote a letter to Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti telling him that he should make Ayanbadejo inhibit such expressions and he be ordered to cease and desist such injurious actions.”

Burns went on in his “hate letter” (on “official” House of Maryland Delegates stationary no less) that Ayanbadejo should “concentrate on football and steer clear of dividing the fan base.” and that “Many of my constituents and your football supporters are appalled and aghast that a member of the Ravens Football Team would step into this controversial divide and try to sway public opinion one way or the other,”

Burns an African-American and Democrat also happens to be the pastor and founder of the Rising Sun First Baptist Church, which was one of the full-time petition drop-off and training centers for anti-gay-activists who want to overturn Maryland’s nascent gay marriage law that goes into effect in 2013 by putting the law on the November ballot, and giving voters a chance to overturn it.

Not only is it appalling that a Maryland Democratic Delegate would write such a letter to the Baltimore Ravens demanding the tarts someones freedom of speech be taken away.  Buts whats even more appalling is that Burns uses his church as an anti-gay training ground without suffering any political ramification from inside the Democratic party and the Maryland House of Delegates.

CitizensTake On Kansas SB 142 “Preservation of Religious Freedom Act” That Promotes LGBT Discrimination

Protesters took to the steps of the Kansas Capitol steps Thursday to protest legislative hate and fight the passage  SB 142, also called the Kansas Preservation of Religious Freedom Act that would allow renters, business owners and citizens to deny services to those who violate their religious tenets in doublespeak.

The LGBT community is the SB142’s intended victims because the bill states itself states that while religious tenets are to be protected that Kansans “not be able to use religion to justify discrimination based on gender, race or ethnicity” but purposely leaves  leaves sexual orientation and gender identification.

Kim Burton, a Republican, traveled from Wichita with her 2-year-old daughter Lucy to address what she saw as an infringement of state government on local government home rule.

“I’m concerned about the rights of my friends who are gay and lesbians being trampled on. I don’t think it should be legal to evict them from apartments if they are gay. It’s almost like the state government is coming down on municipal governments and saying you are not allowed to protect them anymore, and I think that is a shame.”

“It is legislative abuse, it is legislative bullying and it is legislative dictatorship and it should not be permitted,” said Pedro Irigonegaray of the Kansas Equality Coalition while addressing the crowd

The bill has passed the House on a 91-33 vote. It could be debated in a Senate committee, then sent to the Senate floor.
