PULSE Nightclub Massacre Memorial in Orlando, FL Vandalized By White Supremacist

The Pulse Nightclub Massacre memorial mural on the walls of local LGBT community gathering place in Orlando, FL  The Center has been vandalized and its likely to be the work of the white supremacists group The Patriot Front.

Stickers and leaflets were placed on the mural, covering the Pulse logo.

The Patriot Front is identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a “white nationalist hate group.” According to the SPLC, the group was formed in the aftermath of the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, and like their not-so-distant cousins the neo-Nazis, they also call for the formation of a white ethnostate.

Orlando Weekly also reported that The Center’s phone lines had been cut. The LGBT aid organization was unable to field calls from those in need during the pandemic.

On June 12, 2016 Omar Mateen opened fire at Pulse Nightclub leaving 49 dead and 53 injured. He later pledged allegiance to ISIS,  saying that the shooting was motivated by Islamic extremism.

LGBT Die-In Protest Scheduled at The National Mall

LGBT Die-In Protest Scheduled at The National Mall on the Anniversary of the Pulse Massacre – 6/12/2018

LGBT activists plan to hold a mass die-in to remember those who died in the Pulse nightclub shooting with a mass die-in on the National Mall in Washington, DC on June 12th., the second anniversary of the deadly incident. Organizers will focus on demanding stronger gun control laws and screening for gun ownership.

The event set for 11:00 am will last 12 minutes — 700 seconds to represent the 700 victims who’ve died in mass shootings since the Pulse massacre and will be preceded by a 10:30 a.m. rally for gun reform. Additionally, the event has already inspired die-ins at state capitals and NRA offices around the country.

The idea for the die-in came about just a week and a half ago, when Amanda Fugleberg, a lifelong Orlando resident, and co-founder Frank Kravchuk quickly pulled together proper permitting. Fugleberg also reached out to Parkland survivor-turned-activist David Hogg, who just led a successful die-in protest against a Florida grocery chain for supporting a National Rifle Association-backed candidate. She says Hogg expressed strong support for the idea and helped publicize the event.

Twitter account for the event  has quickly amassed hundreds of followers.

Facebook page has been set up for the National Die-In, as well as an events page to mark participants’ attendance.

Please spread the word and attend or plan your own event.

Wife of PULSE Massacre Terrorist Omar Manteen Found NOT GUILTY

“Noor Salman is not guilty of helping her husband, Omar Mateen, carry out the mass shooting that claimed 49 lives at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016, a jury decided Friday. The 12-member jury delivered its verdict after deliberating for about 12 hours over three days.

Salman was also acquitted of obstruction of justice. Prosecutors accused her of lying to the FBI agents who investigated her husband’s mass murder, which he carried out in support of a foreign terror group, the Islamic State.

Had she been convicted, Salman, 31, would have faced up to life in prison. Prosecutors sought to prove Salman helped Mateen prepare for the attack, joining him as he scouted possible targets and bought guns and ammunition. They also said Salman concocted a cover story to tell Mateen’s mother after he left their Fort Pierce apartment to commit the attacks.”

Sources who followed the trail state that some of the prosecutorial evidence didn’t hold up under scrutiny. and that he police didn’t provide a  convincing admission of guilt. It will also be interesting to hear from jurors how they weighed the information that Mateen’s father was an FBI informant.

Speculation is that the prosecution damaged itself badly by withholding that information.

PULSE Massacre Terrorist Omar Mateen’s Wife Confesses She Knew of Attack In Advance

USA Today reports:

A handwritten statement given to the FBI by the wife of Pulse nightclub gunman Omar Mateen says she saw him prepare for the deadly attack for months and knew that the LGBT nightclub was his target.

The 12-page statement, quietly released by federal authorities at the end of December in a batch of records in the case, was taken hours after the June 12, 2016 shooting. The attack left 49 dead and dozens of others injured. Noor Salman was questioned for hours, without a lawyer, after authorities learned her husband was the gunman behind the attack.

She was arrested last year on federal charges of providing material support to a terrorist and tampering with evidence but has pleaded not guilty, claiming she was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She said Mateen abused her and claims she did not know of his plot.

But her defense conflicts with the signed statement she gave to the FBI, which details her knowledge of Mateen’s planning and his path to carry out an attack on behalf of the Islamic State.

“I knew when he left the house he was going to Orlando to attack the Pulse Night Club,” Salman said, according to a statement written by an FBI agent and signed by Salman during the 18-hour interview.

Noor Salman’s  attorneys argued that everything she told the FBI in the hours after the attack should be excluded from trial because she was in custody and not given proper Miranda warnings. US attorneys argued that she was not in custody, free to leave at any time, and that all her statements were voluntary.

PULSE Shooter’s Wife Loses Bid To Move Trial After Claiming Impartial Jurors Could Not Be Found

Via USA Today:

The widow of Pulse nightclub gunman Omar Mateen will stand trial in Orlando, home to the nation’s second deadliest mass shooting in modern history, after a federal judge ruled staying in the city wouldn’t prevent a fair trial.

Lawyers for Noor Salman had fought to move the case outside the city, arguing intense media coverage of the shooting could prompt bias in potential jurors. U.S. District Judge Paul Byron denied the request, court documents show.

Salman has been behind bars for nearly a year since her January arrest. She’s facing federal charges of obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting by providing material support to a terrorist organization. If convicted, Salman could face life in prison.

Venue changes are rare, and the burden on the accused is heavy. Even Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was denied a change of venue. He is appealing his convictions and death sentence, arguing the judge in his case should have moved his trial.

Salman is scheduled to be tried on March 1.

3 Men Arrested In Connection to Murder of Gay Man in Virginia

LGBT Murder Rate Rose 217% in 2016

LGBT Murder Rate Rose 217% in 2016

More LGBT people were killed in the United States in 2016 than in any of the 20 years since record-keeping began, with the total boosted by the deaths of 49 people in an attack at a gay club in Florida last June, an advocacy group said on Monday.

The release of a report from the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs coincides with the first anniversary of the massacre at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Including Pulse victims, murders of LGBT people rose 217 percent in 2016.

The coalition, which has released the report since 1997, said LGBT people remain vulnerable to violence in 2017, especially in what it described as the current “incendiary political climate.”

“Recent executive orders as well as ongoing efforts to pass anti-LGBT legislation and roll back protections at the city, state, and federal level make LGBT people vulnerable to identity-based discrimination,” Beverly Tillery, with the New York City Anti-Violence Project, said in a statement.

Most of the victims knew their murderers, the report says, stating that those commonly included employers, neighbors, landlords and family members, it said.

June 12, 2017: One Year Later Orlando and the LGBT Community Remembers The PULSE Massacre Victims

Today, June 12th, marks the  anniversary of the terror attack at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub,. It had been a year since the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history stole 49 lives there and scarred countless others.  For 12 years, the club grew into an integral space for the gay community, one shattered within a matter of minutes by a terrorist with a gun.

At 2:02 a.m., this morning at they exact the time on June 12th, 2016 when the attack began, the names of those killed in the shooting were read aloud, with the family members of some victims on hand to say their names, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The nightclub also held a private ceremony for family members while mourners – including dozens of people dressed as “angels” – stood outside.  By the end of the night, more than 1,000 people had gathered to remember what happened last June, when Orlando became the first U.S. city of the summer — before Falcon Heights, Minn., and Baton Rouge and Dallas — to be upended by gun violence.

An event called Orlando Love: Remembering Our Angels is also set for the Lake Eola Park Amphitheater at 7 p.m. and will feature musical performances and remarks by community leaders.

Please take a moment to remember the victims and morn the loos of our brothers and sisters.

Dan Patrick Gay Shooting Tweet

Just hours after  50 people were killed at a Florida LGBT nightclub in what federal officials are investigating as an act of terrorism, the Lieutenant Governor of Texas is receiving backlash after tweeting a verse from the Bible.

About 7 a.m. Sunday Dan Patrick tweeted a photo with the words of Galatians 6:7. The verse reads, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

Another verse was tweeted from the account 30 minutes later, this time from Psalm 37:39, which reads, “The Salvation of the righteous come from the Lord; He is their stronghold in time of trouble
