Truth be told I am NOT a fan of the Mormon Church. Institutionalized homophobia runs rampant in the church’s hierarchy and they control the Utah government behind closed doors with an iron fist. Mormon money basically bought Prop 8, and even though they can’t stand them, they work side by side with the Catholic Church to deny us our rights.
But I also don’t suffer well gay men who are “Republicans” and even though Fred Karger, an openly gay man and gay rights activist who is running for the GOP Presidential nomination, and founded Californians Against Hate who served as a political watchdog over Prop 8.
But I also cannot forget that Krager helped lead the campaigns of Republican California Governor George Deukmejian, Lt. Governor Mike Curb, the Presidential campaigns of Senator Rob Dole (R-KS), Senator Paul Laxalt (R-NV), Governor John Connally (R-TX), Senator Charles Percy (R-IL). And I unlike others in our community won’t give him a pass for that.
Now Krager, the GOP Presidential candidate has has launched a website called the Top 10 Craziest Mormon Beliefs because nothing says GOP presidential (low) caliber than mocking people.
Mormons may be reprehensible when it comes to gay rights (and women’s rights), but that doesn’t give Karger the right to target their faith in general (exposing something illegal is a whole nother story.) especially when most of his other fellow candiadtes are far more dangerous “fringe extremist” and he doesn’t say a word about them.
Fred Krager needs to learn that being a “gay republican” is no less crazy as the Mormon belief that God lives near Kolob in a giant Urim and Thummim that is made out of crystal.
