Mormon Church Rejects Utah Hate-Crime Bill That Protects LGBT’s and Mormons

Gay Mormon Hate Law

Just one  year after approving an LGBT nondiscrimination law (albeit a weak one.) the Mormon Church would rather let hate crimes go unprosecuted against its own flock than let gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgender people get protection of hate based crimes under the law because Mormon leaders say the bill would upset the “balance” church leaders called for in 2015.

A spokesman for the LDS elders said in a statement. “Interests from both ends of the political spectrum are attempting to alter that balance. We believe that the careful balance achieved through being fair to all should be maintained.”

Utah’s limited hate-crime legislation currently contains no list of protected classes, which means that SB 107 would not only protect LGBT citizens but would also do more to protect religious expression in the state.

“We’re here [in Utah] because Mormons were lynched, Mormons were persecuted, Mormons were driven out of states,” Said the bill’s author Republican state senator Rep. Stephen Urquhart, who is Mormon. “That’s worthy of protection.”

The bill easily cleared committee two weeks ago, but Urquhart said the church has “effectively snuffed out” discussion with its public comments about “balance.”

Meanwhile Gov. Gary Herbert, a practicing Mormon, was cautious in his approach to the hate-crimes bill, telling the press, “If I kill you, you’re just as dead whether I hated you or I love you and killed you. I don’t understand how that works. Certainly, I think it’s worth a discussion, but we keep creating categories.”

The Mormon Church’s opposition to SB 107, and its recent controversial policy change prohibiting any child who primarily resides with same-sex parents from being baptized until they are 18 and only then if that child “specifically disavows the practice of same-gender cohabitation and marriage. “ Is enough for Senator Urquhart to question his faith.

“When I was a child in a dark situation, the Mormon Church shined a light in my life,” Urquhart said at his press conference last Thursday. “But since then, that light has flickered.”

One Million Moms Have The Boy Scout Rainbow Blues (With Special Guests: The Mormons!)

Boy Scouts

Monica Cole, head of Three Old Biddies and a Computer aka One Million Moms, is all verklempt  over the fact that the Boy Scouts of America have officially relaxed their rules against gay adult Scout Masters.

“As 1MM predicted, the Boy Scouts of America has dropped its ban on homosexual adult leaders. This means men who are attracted to males are now welcome on campouts in intimate proximity to boys. Last week, the BSA’s National Executive Board approved the new policy on a 45-12 vote. This follows a vote just two years ago to allow homosexual boys to join the ranks. The BSA has made its decision; now make yours by taking these immediate actions: 1. If you are in scouting, or have a son or grandson in scouting, show your convictions by resigning from the organization. Your dropped membership will send a strong message that your values are steadfast, faithful and unchangeable. 2. If your church charters a scouting unit, contact the pastor and scouting committee members. Urge the church to drop the charter based on the truth of God’s word and Christian values. 3. Find an alternative to the BSA. 1MM strongly recommends the Christian-based Trail Life USA program.”

Yes the “Christian-based Trail Life USA program”.  You know the one that uses Sieg Heil as a salute.

Meanwhile the Mormon Church whose LDS chapters comprise about 15% of the BSA’s total membership has it’s magic undies in a bundle and has issued a press release in which they threaten to end their relationship with the Boy Scouts over the end of the ban on openly gay leaders even though the BSA put in a religious exemption that would still allow religious sponsored troops to discriminate against gays.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deeply troubled by today’s vote by the Boy Scouts of America National Executive Board. In spite of a request to delay the vote, it was scheduled at a time in July when members of the Church’s governing councils are out of their offices and do not meet. When the leadership of the Church resumes its regular schedule of meetings in August, the century-long association with Scouting will need to be examined. The Church has always welcomed all boys to its Scouting units regardless of sexual orientation. However, the admission of openly gay leaders is inconsistent with the doctrines of the Church and what have traditionally been the values of the Boy Scouts of America. As a global organization with members in 170 countries, the Church has long been evaluating the limitations that fully one-half of its youth face where Scouting is not available. Those worldwide needs combined with this vote by the BSA National Executive Board will be carefully reviewed by the leaders of the Church in the weeks ahead.

Quite a tantrum from a group that has just been given the go ahead to continue discrimination. And thats mostly because if they have to do it by themselves, alone, everyone will see. They can’t be satisfied unless discrimination is universal and they can hide among all the other bigots.

BUSTED: Security Exchange Commission Charges The Mormon Church of Hiding Billions of Dollars

The Mormon Church Will Back SOME LGBT Rights If Religious Folk Get Exclusions Because We Are Mean To Them

Mormon Church Kills LGBT bill

Via Salt Lake City’s Fox affiliate:

In at least one big and bruising culture-war battle, the Mormon church wants to call a partial truce. Convening a rare press conference on Tuesday at church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Mormon leaders pledged to support anti-discrimination laws for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people, as long the laws also protect the rights of religious groups. In exchange, the Mormon church wants gay rights advocates — and the government — to back off. “When religious people are publicly intimidated, retaliated against, forced from employment or made to suffer personal loss because they have raised their voice in the public square, donated to a cause or participated in an election, our democracy is the loser,” said Elder Dallin Oaks, a member of the church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles. “Such tactics are every bit as wrong as denying access to employment, housing or public services because of race or gender.”

Let me be fucking crystal clear here. The Mor(m)on Church is in no position to negotiate, let alone to negotiate from any position of strength.

After spending MILLIONS of dollars to fight LGBT rights. After ruining countless lives by sending gay and lesbian Mormons to “re-education camps”, using shock therapy, and in some cases even lobatomizing gay men. They have the nerve to try to strike a deal now that their “righteous” facade is crumbling and people are truly seeing how hateful and evil they are by saying: We still want to oppress you, but we’ll try to be nicer about it and give you some limited recognition as human beings.

If you ever needed the definition of a “STRAWMAN” this unadulterated  BULLSHIT from the LDS church is it.

Openly gay Utah State  Sen. and founder of Equality Utah,  Jim Dabakis who sent out a statement saying:

“I am proud that the LDS Church has seen fit to lead the way in non-discrimination. As a religious institution, Mormons have had a long history of being the victims of discrimination and persecution. They understand more than most the value and strength of creating a civil society that judges people by the content of their character and their ability to do a job. Since serving as a Senator, and as the only LGBT member of the Utah legislature, I can say one of the joys of the job has been to meet and enjoy the company of LDS officials. I know that together, we can build a community that strongly protects religious organizations constitutional liberties and, in addition, creates a civil, respectful, nurturing culture where differences are honored and everyone feels welcome. Now, lets roll up our sleeves, get to work and pass a statewide Non-Discrimination Bill.”

Just goes to show you that even gay democrats can be disgusting self-loathing quislings too.

Fred Karger Exalts Mormons For Not Blocking ENDA Which Would Still Allow Them To Discriminate

Fred Karger GOP asshole

“This would not have happened without the blessing of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church). The Mormon Church got a big black eye five years ago for all it did to pass Proposition 8 in California, which wrote discrimination into the state Constitution and took away gay marriage in the nation’s largest state. So in order to try to make amends, the Mormon Church led the effort to pass a workplace and housing nondiscrimination law in Salt Lake City in 2009. [snip]

“There are 10 Mormon members of the House of Representatives. If the Mormon Church would use its influence to get all 10 Mormon House members to support ENDA and have them to put some friendly pressure on Speaker Boehner, ENDA would likely become law. They need to lean on the Speaker to at least let ENDA come to the House floor for a vote, and then work diligently for its passage. Let’s hope that the Mormon Church, which advocates equal protection for all Americans, will stand up once again and help ENDA become the law of the land.” – 2012 gay GOP presidential candidate Fred Karger, who once said that he was proud to serve Ronald Reagan as one of his advisors writing for theHuffington Post.

Karger we hadn’t forgotten what the Mormon Church did with Prop 8, but to get all lovey-dovey over them not trying to block ENDA  is nothing more than pure GOP bullshittery.  Praising them for not blocking a bill that would still allow them to discriminate is ridiculous.  And calling upon them to get it passed in the House is downright dangerous considering that it would enshrine LGBT discrimination into law by religious organizations, schools, hospitals businesses and more.

Stop being such a media whore and just go away Fred.  GO AWAY.

The Mormon Church Reaffirms Its Opposition To Gay Marriage: People Are Having Fewer Kids

SIN

Oh those wacky Mormons.

Once again The Mormon Church has officially reaffirmed its opposition to same-sex marriage.  And why?   Because people are having fewer children because gay marriage makes straight people live together in sin.  SIN, I tells ya!.

On the second and final day of the LDS Church’s 183rd Semiannual General Conference, apostle Dallin H. Oaks bemoaned America’s dropping birthrates, later marriages and rising incidence of cohabitation as evidence of “political and social pressures for legal and policy changes to establish behaviors contrary to God’s decrees about sexual morality and the eternal nature and purposes of marriage and child-bearing.” An LDS eternal perspective does not allow Mormons “to condone such behaviors or to find justification in the laws that permit them,” said the apostle, a former Utah Supreme Court justice. “And, unlike other organizations that can change their policies and even their doctrines, our policies are determined by the truths God has declared to be unchangeable.”

Sad so many people allow themselves to be brainwashed by a magic underwear cult.

Anti-Gay GOP Mormon Senator Mike Crapo (ID) Arrested For DUI

Mormons don’t drink alcohol.  Well not ALL Mormons that is as anti-gay, family values GOP Mormon Sen. Mike Crapo (ID) was arrested in Virginia early this morning and charged with with driving while intoxicated with a .11 blood alcohol level which is well above the legal limit at the time of his arrest.

“Sen. Crapo was identified as the driver and arrested after failing several field sobriety tests,” Donaldson said in a statement. “He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center where he was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.” Crapo released a statement through his office Sunday, saying: “I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance. I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me. “I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. I will also undertake measures to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated.”

I imagine he’s pronouncing his last name Oh-crap now

Utah’s State Senate Kills Anti-LGBT Discrimination Bill For The 5th Time

On Friday the Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Committee voted 4-2 to table the bill and anti-lgbt discrimination law after only a 90-minute hearing before a standing room only crowd.

The Committee was made up of five Republicans and one Democrat.

Democrat Ben McAdams’ Senate Bill 51 which would have  extended workplace and housing non-discrimination protections to all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Utahns statewide was a repeat of a bill he had proposed in the 2011 session that was never able to escape the Legislature’s Rules Committee. This year, the bill was given a hearing, but from the outset it was clear the bill faced a tough crowd of legislators

Anti-Gay bigot Gayle Ruzicka, President of the Eagle Forum

Vehemently anti-gay Gayle Ruzicka, president Eagle Forum argued that if religious organizations were to be exempted then religious individuals who own businesses should also be exempted from complying with the bill.

“I think religious people should have that same opportunity as religious institutions,” Ruzicka said. “What if I own some apartments … and I want to make sure the people that rent those apartments have the same standards that I want there– I wouldn’t be able to make that choice. I’d have to allow those that are living a gay lifestyle to move in there.”

In the end McAdams, tried to make a last-ditch pitch for the bill, arguing that the bill was in keeping with what Utahns believe.

“Protection against discrimination is a Utah value,” McAdams said. “Nevertheless, we have discrimination in Utah. We have people who are evicted from their homes or lose their jobs because of how they life their life. I don’t believe we have to choose between protecting against discrimination and the religious values many of us have in our state. I believe that faith and respect can coexist, and this bill would accomplish that,” McAdams said.

Obviously the “Utahns” on the commitee didn’t agree.

GOP Congressman Allen West: "Gay Marriage Is An Oxymoron" (Compared To West Who is A Moron PERIOD)

Republican Congressman Allen West (FL) joined shrill Mormon harpie Phyllis Schlafly at The Eagle Forum Collegians meeting at this weekends The Faith & Freedom Colition Convention in Washington, DC to slam marriage equality, saying: “the term ‘gay marriage’ is an oxymoron.” and then  tried to link gay marriage with the country’s debt and legal abortion.

The term ‘gay marriage’ is an oxymoron. Because marriage is a union and a bond between a man and a woman to do one thing: the furtherance of society by procreation, through creating new life. Have you ever read the book America Alone by Mark Steyn? It’s about demographics. And if we continue with a cycle of debt and punishing our unborn then it just becomes a matter of time before you don’t have society.

It’s truly amazing that HATE can bring all these different religious nuts together.

Mormons, Catholics, Baptists all wallowing together in HATE.

Ahhhhhhhh religion.  If Jesus Christ was here right now he’d become a Wiccan.

Gay Student Graeme Taylor, 14, Is Sticking Up For Michigan High School Teacher Jay McDowell. And He Is FRAKING Awesome – Michigan high school teacher Jay McDowell was suspended for a day without pay after trying to make his classroom a place for acceptance rather than intolerance,  McDowell was disciplined for telling a student to remove a confederate flag belt buckle (because it represented racism) while defending the purple clothing of Spirit Day, Howell administrators insisted McDowell was at fault for infringing on students’ First Amendment rights.

14 Year old Taylor stood up at the School Board meeting and quoting Dr. Martin Luther King, Taylor told board members about how their district isn’t just home to the KKK (Grand Wizard Robert Miles lived nearby before he died), but to intolerant students who drove him, at the age of nine, to attempt suicide.

What McDowell tried to do, says Taylor, was move the needle ever so slightly in the other direction and defend LGBT kids who have found hallway torment to be status quo. “The best thing you can do right now is just give him his pay for that day, and just reverse the disciplinary actions,” Taylor told the school board. “He did an amazing thing. He did something that’s inspired a lot of people. And whenever — ever — I have a teacher stand up for me like that, they change in my eyes. As The Mormons Try To "Rebrand" Boyd K. Packer, President of the Mormon "Quorum of Twelve Apostles": Sermonizes Extreme Anti-Gay Views

In recent months The Mormon Church has been atttepmtint to re-brand  –described in internal church memos as a “massive research / rebranding exercise“— they want to “projects a hip, educated, friendly sensibility; it’s the image of ourselves and our community that young and urbane Mormons love.”  It’s also clearly an effort to address the major PR problems facing the Church as it continues to contend with century-old stereotypes about Mormons as clannish polygamists as well as with recent fallout from its heavy involvement in California’s Proposition 8 campaign

But that doesn’t stop the anti-gay hate from flowing it seems because Boyd K. Packer, president of the Mormon “Quorum of Twelve Apostles which stands firm on the Mormon Church’s anti-gay beliefs and crusade.  (He says nothing about Polygamy though)

There are those today who not only tolerate but advocate voting to change laws that would legalize immorality, as if a vote would somehow alter the designs of God’s laws and nature,” Boyd K. Packer, president of the church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles, said in a strongly worded sermon about the dangers of pornography and same-sex marriage. “A law against nature would be impossible to enforce. Do you think a vote to repeal the law of gravity would do any good?”\  [T]he power to create offspring is not an incidental part of the plan of happiness. It is the key — the very key.” Some argue that attraction that is “impure and unnatural” is “pre-set and cannot [be] overcome, Packer said. “Not so! Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone? Remember he is our father.” Alluding to the Utah-based church’s support of laws such as California’s Proposition 8 that would define marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman, Packer said, “Regardless of the opposition, we are determined to stay on course.” “We cannot change; we will not change,” the senior apostle declared unequivocally’

So while the sect which is the Mormon Church externally tries to spin its image to “hip and cool”, internally it’s preaching the same old hate and intolerance.  Just how “hip and cool” is that.

Remember you can’t spell MORMON without MORON.
