AIDS Healthcare Foundation Subpoenas Med Centers For Records Of Porn Performers – #RemoveWeinstein

AHF Weinstein criminal

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and its rather obnoxious President Micheal Weinstein  has served subpoenas on several HIV testing centers demanding them to turn over confidential patient privacy data as part of their lawsuit on Measure B an AHF-backed referendum which mandates the use of condom in all porn productions in Los Angeles County.

Free Speech Coalition:

Earlier this week, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) served several testing centers with subpoenas, asking them to turn over confidential patient privacy data as part of their lawsuit on Measure B. This is a clear HIPPA violation, and an affront to performer dignity. As a healthcare provider schooled in patient privacy, AHF should be ashamed. AHF is hoping that by combing through patients’ private medical records, they can find something that would serve their political campaign. For all its high-minded rhetoric about protecting performers, AHF has never cared much for performer privacy. In campaign after campaign after campaign, AHF has proposed regulations that would expose performer’s personal data to hackers, to stalkers, to the government and to AHF itself. It’s just one reason that performers have been so vocal in their opposition to AHF and Michael Weinstein. Performers are not a public health threat. Performers are not a means to a political end. Performers are men and women who may work in non-traditional positions, but have the same right to privacy as anyone, including Michael Weinstein. These subpoenas are unconscionable, indecent and offensive. Performers deserve better than to have would be ‘porn czar’ Michael Weinstein peaking through their blinds and snooping through their private medical records. We call on Michael Weinstein to call off this noxious campaign, and for the board of AIDS Healthcare Foundation to #RemoveWeinstein.

Weinstein and the AHF have also spent millions advertising campaigns against the use of Truvada as an HIV preventive.  Some people think that his is the vendetta of a man whose partner died of AIDS years and years ago.

But others like influential AIDS activist Mark King remind us of recent scandalous lawsuit that emerged against Weinstein and the AHF

“Michael Weinstein, the polarizing and famously litigious head of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) just got a taste of his own medicine when a stunning Whistleblower lawsuit against AHF filed last year was unsealed and made public.

The 34-page suit, brought by three former staffers who claim they were fired when they raised questions of financial impropriety, charges the agency with ten counts of defrauding the government, conspiracy, and a “multi-State kickback scheme” to maintain service quotas and keep the government-funded gravy train rolling”

San Francisco Considers Plans To Give Free/Low Cost Truvada To Gay Men To Prevent AIDS

Truveda

Truvada, is a one-a-day pill has been found to be roughly as effective as condoms  in reducing the risk of contracting HIV. But the high cost of the drug  $8,000 to $14,000 a year is out of many people’s price range, even with insurance.

Tomorrow Supervisor David Campos announced plans to introduce a measure to allocate funds for navigators to educate patients about PrEP, and provide subsidies to San Franciscans who cannot afford the life saving medication,

By making PrEP available to all regardless of income, we could set the tone for the rest of the country in how to effectively eradicate a disease that claimed the lives of so many of our loved ones.”

Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, has set off a firestorm in th HIV and gay community claiming that the drug is a “public health disaster in the making.” despite the fact that Truvada is heartily supported by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

Peter Staley, a hero of HIV/AIDS activism and a central figure in How to Survive a Plague summed up Weinstein in a recent interview with Marc Joseph Stern of Slate.com:

“If there’s one thing that every AIDS activist knows it’s that Michael Weinstein is not an AIDS activist. Yes, he’s the CEO of the ‘largest AIDS organization in the country’—based on revenue—but from the get-go, his tactic for building this empire has been taking contrarian positions that assure his placement in almost any article that appears about the latest HIV/AIDS debate.”

Since the beginning of the epidemic until 2010 a total of 28,793 San Francisco residents have been diagnosed with AIDS and  19,341  reported AIDS deaths in the city alone.
