A little over a week ago we reported on how the GOP controlled Florida Statehouse passed SB 1580/HB 1403 officially called the “Protections of Medical Conscience” Act. As written it states that healthcare providers cannot turn anyone away based on their “race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.” But gives the physicians the right to turn away LGBT+ patients without suffering any ramifications.

Nobody took notice.

Today Ron DeSantis signed it into law.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ COVID-19 policies will now be enshrined in state law as the Governor signed bills that will make permanent bans on vaccine and mask mandates as well as give a shield to doctors who deviate from other medical professionals.
SB 1580 allows health care providers and insurance companies to deny care or reimbursement for care if it opposes their ethical beliefs. Advocates for LGBTQ+ and women’s health care worry that the law will give physicians and providers legal protections to discriminate against patients.
DeSantis was joined at the press conference by State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo, Sen. Jay Trumbull and Rep. Joel Rudman, a physician who felt under attack because of his social media posts about Anthony Fauci. As Ladapo stood to address the crowd, he received as standing ovation and one person shouted, “We love you.”

Our LGBT organizations are useless. Florida is lost to fascism and that will not change. Now it’s a matter of survival. Many especially gay men don’t want to leave and in the past have said. “it’s only the trans.” Well, guess what. As I have been saying time and time again it’s not. FLORIDA wants us all out or dead.

At some point it won’t matter if you can’t get a job in another state ,or if it’s a pain in the ass to sell. If you don’t go now soon you’ll have to run for your fucking lives.

Tomothy Ray Brown, an American in his 40s who has been working in Berlin. In 2006, was diagnosed with acute leukemialeukemia AND his HIV, the man’s doctor — Dr. Gero Hütter — a stem cell transplant from aereceived bone marrow from a donor who had natural resistance to HIV infection; this was due to a genetic profile which led to the CCR5 co-receptor being absent from his cells.

Ever since that transplant, Brown  has had an undetectable viral load even though he hasn’t been on HIV/AIDS treatment since before the transplant. The man has generously allowed scientists to take almost every possible biopsy and test, including the most ultrasensitive HIV tests available, but HIV has not been detected anywhere in his body.

About one percent of Caucasians are immune to HIV. Some researchers think the immunity gene goes back to the Great Plague: people who survived the plague passed their immunity down and their heirs have it today.

I’m personally shocked that his has not been bigger news.. I know that medical “breakthro­ughs” are always to be accepted with skepticism­, but any step towards a possible cure is a huge step, especially after all these years, and so many lives lost

Lt. Dan Choi Hospitalizes Self, Seeks Mental Health Assistance Due To Stress and Depression

Lt. Dan Choi who has been the leading activist in the fight to repeal DADT is seeking help from mental health practitioners at a Veterans Administration to deal with stress and depression.
Dan wrote in an e-mail to Pam Spauding over at Pam’s House Blend:

I did not initially want to publicize this but I now realize it is critical for our community to know several things: veterans gay or straight carry human burdens, Activists share similar burdens, no activist should be portrayed as super human, and the failures of government and national lobbying carry consequences far beyond the careers and reputations of corporate leaders, elected officials, High powered lobbyists, or political elites. They ruin lives. My breakdown was a result of a cumulative array of stressors but there is no doubt that the composite betrayals felt on Thursday, by elected leaders and gay organizations as well as many who have exploited my name for their marketing purposes have added to the result. I am certain my experience is not an isolated incident within the gay veteran community.

At the same time, those who have been closest to me know that I truly appreciate their gracious help and mentorship. I am indebted to their hospitality and leadership.

I am glad that Dan realized the stress and depression and is seeking help.  One can only imagine what this man has been through.  Fighting honorably for his country in Iraq, then being told he can’t because he’s gay, and then fighting for the right to return and dealing with the liars and homophobes in Washington and within our community (Hi HRC!) only to be fed bullshit over and over and run into brick walls.  I can totally relate.  It’s hard enough and sometimes extremely depressing just blogging about the depressing state of and news with the LGBT Community and our fight for civil rights.  I can only imagine what choi has had to go through being on the front lines of both this dirty war and the front lines of Washington LGBT activism.

Get some rest and fell better Dan.  And thank you for all the hard work.

Transgender Woman Refused Care At Ball Memorial Hospital In Muncie, Indianna – Hospital Staff Refered To Her As "He-She" and "It"

Muncie Indiana’s Ball Memorial Hospital refused to treat Erin Vaught a transgender individual to emergency care when Erin went to the hospitals emergency room coughing up blood.  What Ball memorials Staff DID treat her to was a whole bunch of disgusting old fashined midwest bigotry amd transphobia. 

Hospital staff laughed and taunted Erin over being transgender. One nurse asked Erin’s wife Amanda whether Erin “was a he or a she? Or a he-she?” Others referred to her as “it” and a “transvestite.” And then Erin was told she could not be treated because of her “condition.”  Her transgender condition.

Ball Memorial Hospital, whose Facebook page was flooded with messages after Erin posted about it, says it prides itself on “compassion,” “respect” and “customer care/service.”

Well here’s some news for you Ball Memorial and all those who refused Erin treatment.  Start clearing out their workspaces and desks right  Because if  Erin Vaught hires the correct law firm she is going to basically going to own the hospital and you all will be where you rightfully should be.  In the gutter and unemployed.
