Gay Comcast Executive Files LGBT Discrimination Lawsuit Against Media Giant

Gay Comcast Executive Files LGBT Discrimination Lawsuit Against Media Giant

A gay Comcast executive who’s the telecommunications company’s LGBTQ liaison filed a 45-page federal lawsuit filed last week, claiming that he has “been subjected to discriminatory conduct” because he doesn’t conform to “traditional sex and/or gender based stereotypes.”

Klayton Fennell is Comcast Corp.’s senior vice president of government affairs and the company’s highest-ranking openly gay employees. Fennell also serves as the company’s key contact with LGBT advocacy organizations.

In the lawsuit Fennell atets that he was denied promotions by his bosses who told him “on more than one occasion, in essence, that his sexual orientation and manner was the reason he was not promoted.” Also that on more than one occasion he had been called a “faggot” and “high-pitched,” and sent to an “executive coach” when he was told he was “too gay and too flamboyant” for the company’s “conservative” culture.

Fennell complained about the discriminatory conduct, but Comcast failed to investigate the allegations and the company “allowed the hostile environment to persist.” He then filed a complaint of discrimination with the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, which resulted in further retaliation against him, he says.

Since he started working for Comcast in 2001, the company wanted to present him as “an example of their non-discriminatory or ‘inclusive’ environment in an effort to bolster their public image and further their business as a media company,” Fennell alleges in the suit. But senior executives have consistently subjected him to discriminatory treatment because of his sexuality, he claims.

Comcast denies the discrimination claims.

Fennel is seeking unspecified damages, including back-pay, front-pay, compensatory damages and lawyer fees, according to the suit.

Comcast is rated 100% by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index and is a donor to many LGBT organization including the NLGJA : The Association of LGBTQ Journalist.

YouTube Investigating Right-Wing Pundit Steven Crowder for Harassing Gay Journalist

YouTube Investigating Right-Wing Pundit Steven Crowder for Harassing Gay Journalist

YouTube is finally investigating right-wing commentator Steven Crowder the host of Louder with Crowder, after a series of videos containing homophobic and racist comments towards a gay journalist.

Carlos Maza brought the harassment to light on a Twitter this week Maza hosts Strikethrough for Vox, a show about media, politics and technology.

Crowder has made ‘rebuttal’ videos over Maza’s Vox segments that have caused a flood of homophobic and racist abuse on Instagram and Twitter. Crowder’s fans have doxxed him multiple times, leaving his phone unusable with the amount of abuse.

This is a direct violation of YouTube’s community guidelines. Content ‘deliberately posted in order to humiliate someone, make hurtful and negative personal comments/videos about another person, or incite others to harass or threaten individuals on or off YouTube’ is banned.

Crowder is well know for making anti-gay videos and also currently sells and advertises t-shirt that say ‘Socialism is for f*gs’ on his YouTube channel. While he with a “straight” face claims the word stands for ‘figs’, it features an image of Che Guevara with a limp wrist – an offensive gay stereotype.

Back2Stonewall was unable to contact Crowder via Twitter for comment.

Christian Crypt Keeper Pat Robertson: I Am Being ‘Dominated’ By ‘Homosexuals’

Christian Crypt Keeper Pat Robertson: I Am Being ‘Dominated’ By ‘Homosexuals’

On Tuesday’s “The 700 Club,” Christian Crypt Keeper Pat Robertson went off his meds again and complained about “left-wing bias” in media, entertainment, and academia, stating that gays and lesbians have “infiltrated” such institutions and are now using them to dominate society.

Via Right Wing Watch:

“We have given the ground to a small minority. You figure, lesbians, one percent of the population; homosexuals, two percent of the population. That’s all. That’s statistically all. But they have dominated—dominated the media, they’ve dominated the cultural shift and they have infiltrated the major universities. It’s just unbelievable what’s being done. A tiny, tiny minority makes a huge difference. The majority—it’s time it wakes up.”

Robertson also went on to say that he is teaming up with “actor” Kevin Sorbo on taking back the culture: “So Kevin Sorbo brought me some scripts.I got one that I think would make a pretty good movie. I’m going to talk to Kevin to see what he thinks. We gotta make some more movies.”

Donald Trump Punks Out Of The White House Correspondents Dinner aka The Nerd Prom

Donald Trump announced Saturday that he’s skipping the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

“I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year,” Trump tweeted. “Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!”

Multiple media outlets including Bloomberg News, Vanity Fair, and the New Yorker had canceled attending and its annual after events. CNN, MSNBC, and other mainstream news media outlets and independent journalists are among those still deciding whether to attend especially after the Trump’s White House treatment of many mainstream media outlets that report unflattering news about the current administration.

Association president Jeff Mason said the dinner will still go on.

“The White House Correspondents’ Association looks forward to having its annual dinner on April 29,” Mason said in a statement.  “The WHCA takes note of President Donald Trump’s announcement on Twitter that he does not plan to attend the dinner, which has been and will continue to be a celebration of the First Amendment and the important role played by an independent news media in a healthy republic.”

Since Calvin Coolidge graced the dinner in 1924, every President has attended.

WATCH: SNL Makes One Final Dig At The Election And Their Media Coverage

WATCH: SNL Makes One Final Dig At The Election And Their Media Coverage

“Saturday Night Live” poked fun at Donald Trump’s relationships with the FBI, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the KKK in its final pre-election show. Alec Baldwin as the GOP nominee and Kate McKinnon as Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton appeared on the spoof “OutFront” show.

But instead of asking Baldwin as Trump about his scandals, show anchor Erin Burnett (played by Cecily Strong) just kept questioning McKinnon as Clinton about her emails. It didn’t even matter whether Baldwin as Trump planted kisses on the lips of an FBI agent, a Klansman or a fake Putin.

“Erin, you saw that, right? He kissed an FBI guy?” McKinnon’s character asked Strong at one point. “It doesn’t seem like enough of a story, let’s get back to your emails,” Strong as Burnett replied.

Baldwin and McKinnon later broke character by saying they felt “gross” about the election, before running out into the streets of New York City to hug passersby. “None of this will have mattered if you don’t vote,” Baldwin, as himself, said after they returned to the studio.

“We can’t tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday, we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in,” McKinnon added.

I wonder if it was a wide shot we’d see the fake Vlad grab fake Trump’s pussy?

1982: While Gay Men Lay Dying The Reagan White House Laughed At AIDS

Reagan

David Mixner posted a transcript today of the first time that AIDS was mentioned in the White House during a press briefing.  If you want to know the barriers people with HIV/AIDS faced in the early 1980’s just read this transcript between White House Press Secretary Larry Speckes (Reagan was President) and the media, notably Lester Kinsolving, who is still alive,  still hateful, refers to gay rights groups as “the sodomy lobby. and work’s for Wingnut World Net Daily.  At this time over six hundred Americans had died from HIV/AIDS.

But to the White House because the victims were gay it was a laughing matter.

Question: Larry, does the President have any reaction to the announcement — the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, that AIDS is now an epidemic and have over 600 cases?

MR. SPEAKES: What’s AIDS?

Question: Over a third of them have died. It’s known as “gay plague.” (Laughter.) No, it is. I mean it’s a pretty serious thing that one in every three people that get this have died. And I wondered if the President is aware of it?

MR. SPEAKES: I don’t have it. Do you? (Laughter.)

Question: No, I don’t.

MR. SPEAKES: You didn’t answer my question.

Question: Well, I just wondered, does the President—

MR. SPEAKES: How do you know? (Laughter.)

Question: In other words, the White House looks on this as a great joke?

MR. SPEAKES: No, I don’t know anything about it, Lester.

Questoin: Does the President, does anybody in the White House know about this epidemic, Larry?

MR. SPEAKES: I don’t think so. I don’t think there’s been any—

Question: Nobody knows?

MR. SPEAKES: There has been no personal experience here, Lester.

Question: No, I mean, I thought you were keeping—

MR. SPEAKES: I checked thoroughly with Dr. Ruge this morning and he’s had no—(laughter)—no patients suffering from AIDS or whatever it is.

Question: The President doesn’t have gay plague, is that what you’re saying or what?

MR. SPEAKES: No, I didn’t say that.

Question: Didn’t say that?

MR. SPEAKES: I thought I heard you on the State Department over there. Why didn’t you stay there? (Laughter.)

Question: Because I love you, Larry, that’s why. (Laughter.)

MR. SPEAKES: Oh, I see. Just don’t put it in those terms, Lester. (Laughter.)

Question: Oh, I retract that.

It would not for another FIVE YEARS until September 1987, when Ronald Reagan would make his his first public mention of the word “AIDS” in response to a reporter’s question. The death toll at that time was over 21,000.

Oh No They Didn’t! – NBC Cancels SMASH and The New Normal

The New Normal

It’s been a very bad week in television for gays and theater fans who watch NBC shows.

NBC has  made two of its final cuts canceling cancelling Broadway musical drama Smash and Ryan Murphy’s comedy The New Normal.

The fat lady sang Smash last years NBC’s new darling, in Season 2, going sub-1.0 in the ratings and when  NBC banished it to Saturdays, where it practically died and ratings sank below a 0.5 and was trashed by critics.   Smash didn’t just get canceled, it got yanked off the stage by a cane.

The New Normal while starting off strong the sat teetering on the edge of the ratings cancellation threshold , but  its connection to creator Ryan Murphy was enough to give it more hope. The comedy about two gay dads played byDavid Bartha and the adorable Andrew Rannells who have a child via a surrogate  and building a new type of family drew some criticism, some of it reasonable and some it not, but in the end the show just never took off as NBC had hoped.  But in the end even the writers saw it coming and they gave to the show a real ending before the ax fell.

The New Normal and Smash join Hannibal,  Up All Night, Whitney, Guys With Kids, Go On, 1600 Penn, and Deception as recent additions to NBC’s 2012-2013 graveyard

James Franco Dropped By Advertising Campaigns Over His Gay Themed Films

James Franco

James Franco has stated that three advertisers to drop him from their campaigns due to his involvement in gay themed movies.

“I’ve lost three kind of advertising campaigns now because the companies say they don’t like my image, but I know that it’s directly related to the films that I put out at Sundance,” Franco said last night during the South By Southwest red carpet premiere of Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers.

Franco was referring to Kink, an often erect documentary-style film about BDSM porn actors and Interior. Leather Bar, a fictional recreation of footage censored from the gay 1980 thriller Cruising. Franco produced Kink and co-directed Interior. Leather Bar.

He also played Hugh Hefner in a third Sundance film called Lovelace, a narrative re-telling of porn actress Linda Lovelace’s exit from triple-X scene.

Franco did not name the three companies that dropped him from their ad campaigns, he did cite it as proof of pervasive homophobia in mainstream American media. He also commented that he tends to help support gay film projects that he believes in and that might not get made without his help

Keith Olbermann Fired From Current TV – Olbermann Says He’ll Sue

Coming just a little more  than one year after outspoken progressive televison journalist Keith Olbermann was “let go” from MSNBC, Current TV  the  media company led by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt on Friday afternoon announced that it had fired Mr. Olbermann  just a year into his five-year, $50 million contract. It was the culmination of months of murky disputes between Mr. Olbermann and the channel that he was supposed to save from ratings oblivion.

From Current TV

“We created Current to give voice to those Americans who refuse to rely on corporate-controlled media and are seeking an authentic progressive outlet. We are more committed to those goals today than ever before. Current was also founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it.”

Forty-five minutes later, in a stream of Twitter messages, Olbermann threatened to take legal action against the channel and said its claims about him were untrue.   Olbermann, however, has said he has been very careful to fulfill the terms of his contract. On Twitter on Friday afternoon, he apologized for joining Current TV at all, calling it “a sincere and well-intentioned gesture on my part, but in retrospect a foolish one.”

He encouraged people to “read of a previous occasion Mr. Hyatt found himself in court for having unjustly fired an employee,” and linked to a New York Times article from 1990 that reported on a ruling against Mr. Hyatt’s firm that found that it had illegally removed the head of its Philadelphia office, Clarence B. Cain, after learning he had AIDS.

Olbermann’s slot tonight will be taken by Eliot Spitzer.  Which is almost akin to Snooki from Jersey Shore taking over for Oprah.
