LGBT activist protest in Jeruselum

Over 200 members of Israel’s LGBT community protested in Jerusalem on Saturday evening, days after the Knesset voted against five bills that would improve LGBT rights in Israel.

The Knesset vote on Wednesday — 24 hours after parliament marked an LGBT rights day for the first time rejected bills which sought to recognize same-sex spouses of fallen IDF soldiers, introduce civil unions, ban conversion therapy for minors, and require medical professionals to study gender and sexual orientation prior to receiving their licenses. The proposals were all opposed by the coalition.

The Zionist Union party condemned the Knesset for rejecting the bills a day after LGBT rights day, and accused the government of hypocrisy.

“It turns out the coalition merely uses the members of the LGBT community for public relations, and in the moment of truth opposes all the laws benefiting it,” the statement read.

Israel Stabbing Rally

 

A 16 year old Israeli teenager who was stabbed by a crazed Jewish religious extremist at Jerusalem’s  gay pride parade last week died from her wounds today, just hours after thousands of Israelis held anti-violence rallies across the country protesting attacks by Israeli assailants against gays and Palestinians.

An ultra-orthodox Jewish man, recently freed from prison, wielded a knife at the gay pride parade on Thursday, stabbing six attendees before he was apprehended.

One of those injured, was LGBT ally teenager Shira Banki

“Our magical Shira was murdered because she was a happy 16-year-old – full of life and love – who came to express her support for her friends’ rights to live as they choose. For no good reason and because of evil, stupidity and negligence, the life of our beautiful flower was cut short,” 

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin told crowds in Jerusalem on Saturday night that “the flames are spreading in our land, flames of violence, flames of hatred, flames of false, distorted and twisted beliefs. Flames which permit the shedding of blood, in the name of the Torah, in the name of the law, in the name of morality, in the name of a love for the land of Israel.”

DNC Bows To GOP and the Religious Right Inserts “God” Into Platform, Creates Riff Among Delegates

After complaints from the GOP and the Right Wing Christian extremist that the Democratic National Committee 2012 Platform did not contain the word “GOD” or a clear statement about American policy towards Israel and Jerusalem.  The DNC yesterday scrambled and  made the unprecedented move at the Convention in Charlotte to suspend the rules to take a vote and add an amendment to the current platform which was voted and passed by delegates on Tuesday to include both.

And to make matters even worse after taking the vote 3 times and not getting clear 2/3rds vote the DNC chairman still passed the amendment to the horror of many of the DNC delegates

After a brilliant first day of the convention this was a  disgraceful display by the Democratic party. The DNC just showed the world that Democracy can be overruled by religious oppression and foreign policy dictated by religious extremist.
