Gay History – February 9: Irish Poet Brendan Behan, Archie Bunker’s Gay Buddy, and Jerry Falwell Outs A Teletubby

February 9th.

1874 – Amy Lowell American lesbian poet was born in Brookline. Massachusetts.

A militant literary leader she thumbed her nose at the Boston Brahmans who raised her and outed herself. Her lover was actress Ada Dwyer Russell whom she called “Peter.” Russell is reputed to be the subject of Lowell’s more erotic works, most notably the love poems contained in ‘Two Speak Together’, a subsection of Pictures of the Floating World.  The two women traveled to England together, where Lowell met Ezra Pound, who at once became a major influence and a major critic of her work. Pound considered Lowell’s embrace of Imagism to be a kind of hi-jacking of the movement, and among his friends he referred to her as the “hippo-poetess”, because of her large body size. Lowell has been linked romantically to writer Mercedes de Acosta, but the only evidence of any contact between them is a brief correspondence about a planned memorial for Duse. Lowell was a short but imposing figure who kept her hair in a bun and wore a pince-nez.

1923 – Brendan Behan is born.

Behan was an Irish poet, short story writer, novelist, and playwright who wrote in both English and Irish.  Born in Dublin into a republican family, he became a member of the IRA’s youth organisation Fianna Éireann at the age of fourteen. However, there was also a strong emphasis on Irish history and culture in the home, which meant he was steeped in literature and patriotic ballads from a tender age. Behan eventually joined the IRA at sixteen, which led to him serving time in a borstal youth prison in the United Kingdom (see “The Borstal Boy” ) and was also imprisoned in Republic of Ireland. During this time, he took it upon himself to study and he became a fluent speaker of the Irish language. Subsequently released from prison as part of a general amnesty given by the Fianna Fáil government in 1946, Behan moved between homes in Dublin, Kerry and Connemara and also resided in Paris for a period.   Behan had married Beatrice Salkeld  in 1955. A daughter, Blanaid, was born in 1963.  This however, was not enough to bring Behan back from his alcoholic abyss. By early March 1964, the end was in sight. Collapsing at the Harbour Lights bar, he was transferred to the Meath Hospital in central Dublin, where he died, aged 41.

The family of Brendan Behan claim that he was bisexual all of his life, but he kept it quiet for his families sake.

1943 – Marc Stevens

Marc ’10½’ Stevens was a pioneering bisexual  sex industry figure during the 1970’s in New York City. He appeared in over 80 pornographic movies, and he also led an erotic dance troupe and performed in live sex shows. While he predominantly appeared in heterosexual films and loops, he made a number of gay movies as well. He was a close associate of leading sex industry figures such as Jason & Tina Russell, Annie Sprinkle, who was also his neighbor for a time, Sharon Mitchell, Jamie Gillis, Georgina Spelvin and Gloria Leonard. Tall and lean with a well-defined musculature, he had the nickname “10½” because of the size of his rather large circumcised penis

Stevens passed away of AIDS in 1989 at age 46

GAY HISTORY – September 13, 2001: Moral Majority Leader Rev. Jerry Falwell Blames Gays, Lesbians, and the ACLU for 9/11 Terrorist Attacks – [Video]

On September 13, 2001 “Moral Majority” Reverend Jerry Falwell who founded Liberty University Law School with the assistance of the anti-LGBT hate group leader Mat Staver of the Liberty Counsel, left one of his last and most hateful marks on history while the ashes were still smoldering at the site of the World Trade Center and the world mourned.

Falwell appeared on Pat Robertson’s 700 Club, and actually accused gays and the lesbians as responsible for the worst tragedy to ever to strike American.

Falwell: What we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if in fact God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

Robertson: Well Jerry, that’s my feeling. I think we’ve just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven’t even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

Falwell: The ACLU’s got to take a lot of blame for this.

Robertson: Oh, yes.

Falwell: And I know I’ll hear from them for this but throwing God out successfully with the help of the court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools… The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way — all of them who have tried to secularize America — I point the finger in their face and say, “you helped this happen.”

Robertson: Well I totally concur.

Falwell further stated that the attacks were “probably deserved”, a statement which Christopher Hitchens called treasonous.

The next day, Falwell “sort of”  apologized in a phone call to CNN: “I would never blame any human being except the terrorists, and if I left that impression with gays or lesbians or anyone else, I apologize,” but then went on to say:  “I do believe, as a theologian, based upon many Scriptures and particularly Proverbs 14:23, which says ‘living by God’s principles promotes a nation to greatness, violating those principles brings a nation to shame,” he said.

Falwell died on May 15, 2007.  He is not missed and is hopefully in hell playing Go Fish with Hitler, Mussolini, and Cardinal Richelieu.

Reverend Billy Graham Dead at 99. What The Mainstream News Is Not Saying

Evangelist Billy Graham, deemed “America’s Pastor,” has died at the age of 99 reports the Associated Press.

Graham’s giant Southern California tent revivals in 1949 would become widely recognized as the beginning of the modern Evangelical movement.

Since his ministry began in 1947, Graham conducted more than 400 crusades in 185 countries and territories on six continents. The first Billy Graham Crusade, held September 13–21, 1947, in the Civic Auditorium in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was attended by 6,000 people. Graham was 28 years old. He called them crusades, after the medieval Christian forces who conquered Jerusalem. He would rent a large venue, such as a stadium, park, or street. As the sessions became larger, he arranged a group of up to 5,000 people to sing in a choir. He would preach the gospel and invite people to come forward (a practice begun by Dwight L. Moody). Such people were called inquirers and were given the chance to speak one-on-one with a counselor, to clarify questions and pray together. The inquirers were often given a copy of the Gospel of John or a Bible study booklet. In Moscow, in 1992, one-quarter of the 155,000 people in Graham’s audience went forward at his call. During his crusades, he has frequently used the altar call song, “Just As I Am”.[

Billy Graham while not as rabidly homophobic as others evangelicals of his time like Jerry Falwell, (Graham refused to join Jerry Falwell’s Moral Majority in 1979, saying: “I’m for morality, but morality goes beyond sex to human freedom and social justice.”) Graham was nonetheless deeply opposed to homosexuality.

In 1974, a young woman wrote Graham saying that she was attracted to another woman. He wrote back, “Your affection for another of your own sex is misdirected and will be judged by God’s holy standards,” and also told the woman she could be “healed” of her same-sex attraction through belief in Christ.

In 1993, Graham also callously said  that AIDS was punishment from God. “’ls AIDS a judgment of God” he said while preaching in Columbus, Ohio. “l could not be sure, but I think so.” He quickly backtracked, telling Cleveland’s Plain Dealer newspaper two weeks later, ”l don’t believe that and I don’t know why I said it. I remember saying it, and I immediately regretted it and almost went back and clarified the statement. …  God stands in judgment of all sins, but AIDS is a disease that affects people and is not part of that judgment. To say that God has judged people with AIDS would be very wrong and cruel. I would like to say that I am very sorry for what I said.”

In 2012, he endorsed an anti-marriage equality constitutional amendment in his home state of North Carolina. “At 93, I never thought we would have to debate the definition of marriage,” Graham wrote in a full-page advertisement. “The Bible is clear — God’s definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. I want to urge my fellow North Carolinians to vote FOR the marriage amendment on Tuesday, May 8.” Voters approved the amendment, which was nullified by a federal court ruling in 2014 but remains part of the North Carolina constitution.

He also once said, “Let me say this loud and clear, we traffic in homosexuality at the peril of our spiritual welfare,” as quoted by the U.K.’s Pink News.

Graham died at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, a spokesman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association

Rev. Jerry Falwell Jr. Tell Students at Liberty University To Arm Themselves So They Can “End Those Muslims”

Jerry Falwell Jr,

Like evil bigoted father. Like evil bigoted son.

Rev. Jerry Falwell Jr. son of the late “Moral Majority” leader and hate-monger of the same name yesterday told students at Liberty University to arm themselves so that they can “end those Muslims.”

“It just blows my mind that the president of the United States [says] that the answer to circumstances like that is more gun control,” he said to applause. “If some of those people in that community center had what I have in my back pocket right now…,” he said while being interrupted by louder cheers and clapping. “Is it illegal to pull it out? I don’t know,” he said, chuckling.

“I’ve always thought that if more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in,” he says, the rest of his sentence drowned out by loud applause while he said, “and killed them.”

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to encourage all of you to get your permit. We offer a free course,” he said. “Let’s teach them a lesson if they ever show up here.”

It just proves the old adage: The scumbag doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Mitt Romney’s Commencement Address At Jerry Falwell Founded Liberty University – VIDEO

GOP Presidential nominee, violent gay bully, and boring as hell, Mitt Romney today gave the 2012 commencement address at the bastion of “hateademia” Liberty University which was founded by Jerry Falwell in 1971, leader of “Moral Majority”.  And is home of the SLPC certified hate group, the Liberty Counsel

Falwell once said: “AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharaoh’s charioteers … AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuals; it is God’s punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.”

Mitt’s biggest applause line? “Marriage is between one man and one woman!”

Who’d have guessed?

Falwell was unable to attend today’s commencement ceremony, as he had a previously scheduled lunch date in HELL with Hitler,  Ronald Reagan, and Roy Cohn.

***NOTE: The video cuts off the very beginning of Mitt’s speech, in which he praises the anti-gay founder of Chick-fil-A and Focus on the Family supporter Truett Cathy.

American Family Association Hate Group’s Bryan Fischer: Obama Is A Facist

And our survey says?

BUZZ – WRONG

The Correct Answer:  Facism came to America wrapped in a Flag and and carrying a cross In June 1979, when Jerry Falwell created the Moral Majority and rode California Governor Ronald Reagan as “their candidate” for the 1980 presidential election into the White House like Billy Graham on a cheap hooker.
