Gay Soccer Star Robbie Rogers Blasts FIFA for Holding World Cup In Anti-Gay Countries. Why Hasn’t HRC or GLAAD?

Mexico v United States

Openly gay LA Galaxy soccer  star Robbie Rogers blasted the FIFA for on Thursday for their decision to hold the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in the rabidly anti-gay countries of Russia and Qatar, while HRC and GLAAD have remained silent on the issue.

“I would never pressure anyone into speaking about the issue but it is absolutely insane,” he said. “If you look at the next few World Cups, they are in places where, if I were to go, I could possibly be imprisoned or beat up or stoned to death. It is pretty ridiculous.”

Roberts told NBC Sports that he was concerned about the safety of gay fans traveling to Russia and Qatar to watch the games, due to Russia’s bill banning “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors,” and Qatar’s ban on gay sex.

“There is going to be number of gay fans that will go to watch the sport. Of course there is going to be another gay footballer there. So I think it is an issue that needs to be spoken about and discussed with FIFA because every player should feel safe when they go to a World Cup,” said Rogers.

Obviously organizations like FIFA & IOC care more about money than basic human rights. But what’s the Human Rights Campaigns and GLAAD’S excuse in not getting involved?

Lazy?  Ineffectual?  Worthless?

Or perhaps its just D.  All of the above.

International Olympic Committee Announces Future Host Cities Must Agree To LGBT Discrimination Protections

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Rio De Janeiro, where robust LGBT protections already exist but the International Olympic Committee today announced that future Olympics host cities must sign a contract with an added clause vowing to protect LGBT participants and attendees from discrimination.

“This is a significant step in ensuring the protection of both citizens and athletes around the world and sends a clear message to future host cities that human rights violations, including those against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, will not be tolerated,” said Andre Banks, co-founder and executive director of All Out, the global movement for love and equality. “This is a particularly important moment for the world’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens who face discrimination and persecution not only in Russia but in countries all over the world. We will continue working to make sure this change is powerfully enforced – these new rules must prevent a replay of Sochi.”

According to IOC Sports Director, Christopher Dubi, the new clause will include “the prohibition of any form of discrimination, using the wording of Fundamental Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter.” This clause will ensure that future host cities must abide by international human rights standards in order to host the games, including the protection of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens and athletes. “By adopting a non-discrimination clause into its host city contracts, the IOC is showcasing its own realization that we must protect the rights of every athlete to live free and openly,” said Hudson Taylor, Executive Director of Athlete Ally. “The Principle 6 campaign sought to shed light on the responsibility of host countries to uphold the olympic values, and this action validates all of the hard work by organizations and individuals across the world who’ve engaged in the fight for LGBT equality.

A useless public relations stunt after the horrible fact of Sochi to save face a little too little and a little too late.  The IOC is only requiring that countries that host the Olympics agree to not discriminate against ATHLETES and SPECTATORS.  It says nothing about anti-gay laws excluding a country from hosting the Olympics. Saudi Arabia could do this, as could Iran or Uganda or any other country with anti-gay laws.

International Olympic Committee Backs Russia On Arrest and Beatings Of LGBT Protesters

Nazi IOCReports have upped the number of LGBT protesters arrested in Russia yesterday at well past 60 with many reporting being harassed and beaten by Police.  And guess what?  The International Committee appears to be just fine and dandy it.

“We understand that the protesters were quickly released,” Emmanuelle Moreau, the IOC’s head of media relations, said in an email to BuzzFeed. “As in many countries in the world, in Russia, you need permission before staging a protest. We understand this was the reason that they were temporarily detained.

Unfortunately in Russia you can’t get permission to stage an LGBT protest because LGBT protests are outlawed.

Raise your hand if you are really surprised.

NBC Edits Out IOC Anti-Discrimination Mention From Televised Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremony

NBC edit IOC

Last night at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, opening ceremony IOC president Thomas Bach made a strong statement against “any form of discrimination” and in favor of tolerance. Viewers worldwide heard the statement; but NBC viewers in the U.S. did not, because the network edited it out.

Here’s a transcript of Bach’s speech from British TV. NBC edited out the bolded portion.

Good evening, dear Athletes. Mr president of the Russian Federation, Mr Secretary General of the United Nations, Good evening Olympic friends and fans around the world! Welcome to the 22nd Olympic Winter Games! Tonight, we are writing a new page in Olympic history. What has been achieved in seven years is a remarkable achievement. I would like it thank, in again, the president of the Russian Federation and his Government. The Sochi organizing committee. The Russian Olympic committee. And the IOC members in Russia. Thank you to all the workers for your great contribution under sometimes difficult circumstances. Thank you to all the people of Sochi and the Krasnodar region. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your understanding during these years of transformation.

Now you are living in an Olympic Region. I am sure you will enjoy the benefits for many, many years to come. Thousands of volunteers have welcomed us with the well-known warm Russian hospitality. Many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers. Bolshoi spasiba, valantyoram! Thank you very much to everyone. Russia and the Russians have set the stage for you, the best winter athletes on our planet. From this moment on you are not only the best athletes, you are Olympic Athletes. You will inspire us with your outstanding sports performances. You have come here for sports. You have come here with your Olympic dream. The International Olympic Committee wants your Olympic Dream to come true. This is why we are investing almost all of our revenues in the development of sports. The universal Olympic rules apply to each and every athlete- no matter where you come from or what your background is. You are living together in the Olympic Village. You will celebrate victory with dignity and accept defeat with dignity. You are bringing the Olympic Values to life. In this way, the Olympic Games, wherever they take place, set an example for a peaceful society. Olympic Sport unites people. This is the Olympic Message the athletes spread to the host country and to the whole world. Yes, it is possible to strive even for the greatest victory with respect for the dignity of your competitors. Yes, Yes, it is possible – even as competitors – to live together under one roof in harmony, with tolerance and without any form of discrimination for whatever reason. Yes, it is possible – even as competitors – to listen, to understand and to give an example for a peaceful society.

Olympic Games are always about building bridges to bring people together. Olympic Games are never about erecting walls to keep people apart. Olympic Games are a sports festival embracing human diversity in great unity. Therefore, I say to the political leaders of the world – thank you for supporting your athletes. They are the best ambassadors of your country. Please respect their Olympic Message of goodwill, of tolerance, of excellence and of peace. Have the courage to address your disagreements in a peaceful, direct political dialogue and not on the backs of the athletes. APPLAUSE To all sports officials and sports fans I say – join and support our fight for fair play, the athletes deserve it. To you – my fellow Olympic Athletes – I say, respect the rules, play fair, be clean, respect your fellow athletes in and out of competition. We all wish you joy in your Olympic effort and a wonderful Olympic experience. APPLAUSE To all of you – Athletes, Officials, Fans and Spectators around our globe – I say, enjoy the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games! And now I have the honour of inviting the president of the Russian Federation, Mister Vladimir Putin, to declare open the 22nd Olympic Winter Games.

We should have boycotted, plain and simple. But no.  We let the lily-livered powers that be in the LGBT community cop-out once again.  We even some in the gay community trot out the old chestnut, “but what about the athletes?” as if it’s an athletes right to be subsidized by the government and/or corporation in some bullshit sport and that outweighs the cost of another human beings life.

Last night was a televised validation of Putin and a celebration of his corruption and evil sponsored by Visa and Coca Cola and the spinelessness of NBC and America for not taking a stand.

Mayor Of Sochi’s Olympic Village Defends Heinous Russian Anti-LGBT Law

Mayor Of Sochi Olympic Village

Svetlana Zhurova, a gold medal-winning figure skater and lawmaker in the Russian parliament who has been named the “Mayor” of Sochi’s mountain Olympic Village has stated  in an interview with the independent Russian TV channel Dozhd that she proudly voted for Russia’s anti-gay law “to stop people promoting it to minors.” and still defends it despite the backlash from countries around the globe.

Zhurova claimed that many European politicians who oppose the law had told her in private that they actually supported it and that Russian celebrities who support the law had been told by their sponsors to stay quiet. She added, “I just think they shouldn’t show a cartoon on TV — excuse me, I have two boys — where a king loves another king.” She went on to tell a “joke” about the law: “If someone says he’s Napoleon, he’ll be taken straight to the appropriate institution. If he says he’s a woman, then basically nothing happens to him, he’s fighting for his rights.”

And yet America is still going “for the athletes”.  FUCK THAT!

No tolerance for intolerance!  Boycott Sochi. Boycott NBC’s Coverage.  Boycott whole of Russia!

Gay History - April 4, 1938: Gestapo Announces That Gay Prisoners To Be Sent To Concentration Camps

Moscow Bans Tribute To Gay Holocaust Victims Because It Would Promote Homosexuality

Pink Trangle prisoners

The city of Moscow has banned a commemorative tribute to the gay, lesbian and transgender victims of the Holocaust because it could “influence” children on homosexuality.

Via Gay Star News:

Around 20 participants applied to hold a peaceful event in Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow on 5 November. The intention of the tribute was to also spread the message about not repeating past mistakes and ensuring something like the Holocaust never happens again. But the authorities rejected the application, saying paying tribute to gay victims of Nazi Germany could potentially “influence” children on homosexuality.

Additionally Moscow has recently denied approval of two LGBT rallies. One to highlight the importance of combating homophobia in sport and the other for Russia to join the Schengen Agreement to allow the LGBT community freedom of movement in a single visa.

But remember the International Olympic Committee thinks Russia and FABULOUS and a perfect choice for the 2014 Games.  Just like the IOC did in 1936 when they were held in Berlin under Adolf Hitler.

International Olympic Committee President REFUSES To Meet With Russian LGBT Activist

Russia arrest

The new president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach has refused a request to meet with Russian LGBT activists during his tour of the country less this week but said he’s willing to host a conversation with them at the IOC’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland at a later date.

LGBT activists in Russia initially sent an email requesting a meeting with Bach to the IOC October 13, then sent a formal letter October 22. It was only today that Bach replied stalling the conversation and moving it out of the country of Russia where many of the activists would not have the freedom or funds to travel to.

“LGBT activists in Russia see this decision as yet another indicator that the Sochi Olympics are far from being a platform to uphold and promote the Olympic values,” said Anastasia Smirnova, coordinator and spokeswoman for the Russian LGBT Sport Federation, a member group of the Federation of Gay Games. “It is now impossible to imagine an inclusive event where rights and human dignity of all are respected. The law on ‘propaganda’ is degrading in its nature, suggesting that LGBT people are dangerous to children, families, and society, and that it is the responsibility of the authorities to protect other citizens from us. It is crucial to discuss and define concretely how implementation of the non-discrimination principles will be ensured in such climate. The refusal by Thomas Bach to meet with LGBT organizations in Sochi is disappointing”

At a press event in Moscow while Bach was meeting with other groups he stated: All visitors travelling to Sochi for the Games regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation will be welcomed here equally – this has been made very clear by the Russian authorities,” said President Bach. “The Games themselves are open to all, free of discrimination, and that applies to spectators, officials, media, and, of course, athletes. This is a principal pillar of the Olympic Movement that will be upheld in Sochi.”

Yeah.  Good luck with that.

Russian Gov’t Doublespeaks and Defends Anti-Gay Laws In Letter To IOC Again

Gay russia olymics 2014

In a letter from Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak of the Russian government he once again “reassured” the International Olympic Committee that they will not discriminate against gay people during the Sochi Olympics.  Except that of course unless they act gay.

The IOC received a letter from Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak giving reassurances the host country will comply fully with the Olympic Charter’s provision against discrimination of any kind. “The Russian Federation guarantees the fulfillment of its obligations before the International Olympic Committee in its entirety,” Kozak said. However, Kozak did not back down on the issue of the new law, which penalizes anyone who distributes information aimed at persuading minors that “nontraditional” relationships are normal or attractive. The law applies equally to everyone and “cannot be regarded as discrimination based on sexual orientation,” Kozak said. The letter still leaves open the question of what would happen to Olympic athletes or fans if they make statements or gestures that could be considered propaganda.

Dear Russia;  As Frodo Baggins said to Gollum, “There is no promise you can make that I can trust.”

That is all.
