Obama Evolves, Senator Harry Reid Misteps: Same Sex Marriage Should Be Decided On The State Level

Shortly after President Obama’s historic evolution on his acceptance of same sex marriage  became complete.  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also released a statement  about same sex marriage.  And while his “personal” belief is “that marriage is between a man and a woman” he agrees that loving commited same sex couples should havew the right to marry.  But that that decision belongs on state level, not Federal.

REID STATEMENT ON MARRIAGE EQUALITY

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement today following President Obama’s announcement of support for marriage equality. “My personal belief is that marriage is between a man and a woman. But in a civil society, I believe that people should be able to marry whomever they want, and it’s no business of mine if two men or two women want to get married.  The idea that allowing two loving, committed people to marry would have any impact on my life, or on my family’s life, always struck me as absurd.  “In talking with my children and grandchildren, it has become clear to me they take marriage equality as a given. I have no doubt that their view will carry the future. “I handled a fair amount of domestic relations work when I was a practicing lawyer, and it was all governed by state law.  I believe that is the proper place for this issue to be decided as well.”

Reid seems to forget that same sex couples are denied a whole host of benefits government provides to heterosexual married couples and that there are over one thousand federal laws in which marriage status is a factor.  Federally recognized marriage.  And that the Federal Government does not recognize same sex couples married in LGBT friendly states because of DOMA?

Before Senator Reid issues statements like this to seem hip and wnt to ride Obama’s coattails, perhaps he should think about he is actually saying in his statements

Without Federal recognition, acceptance, and support of same sex marriage and the demise of DOMA,  “state by state” same sex marriage is just another case of “separate and not equal”

 

 

Scott "Cosmo" Brown Commits to DADT Repeal – Senate Has 61 Votes Committed to ‘DADT’ Repeal NOW. JUST DO IT!

Senator Scott “Cosmo” Brown has announced support of a stand-alone bill to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the Senate that pushes support, on paper at least to well over the 60-vote threshold.  As of NOW.  But what will happen if Harry Reid waits another week which will give anti-DADT repeal ReTHUGlicans a chance to pressure the few pro-repeal GOP members is any ones guess.

Said Harry Reid last night “The time for action is now. We plan on considering the stand-alone bill to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ which was sent over by the House. But let me be clear. We are very quickly running out of days in this Congress. The time for week-long negotiations on amendments and requests for days of debate is over. Republican Senators who favor repealing this discriminatory policy need to join with us now to stand against those who are trying to run out the clock on this Congress.”

Well okay then Mr. Peepers get off you ass and bring it to a vote TODAY and stop wasting time having daylong goodbye sessions to Lincoln and Dodd!

DADT Not On Remaining Congressional Schedule, Might Be Dead

Here we go.  Fucked again without lube!

House Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid announced the scheduling for the next two weeks in the Senate, in which the Defense Bill with the DADT repeal included is Missing In Actiion.  Or in others words its NOT on the schedule.  Reid lays out the schedule for now until December 17th, when the Senate adjourns. In it, there’s no mention of the Defense bill, or DADT repeal. Finally, he is prodded by a colleague to say something on the Defense bill.

Which Reid then talks about as an after thought!
Reid states that the major sticking point on the Defense bill is the amendment process. The Republicans, of course, are demanding an “open amendment process”  Reid says he would be open to considering some amendments if there are time agreements on those amendments.

What a bunch of good for nothings.  The Dems, The Repubs, Obama, Our Orgs. 

Once again we get NOTHING.  How long are we going to sit back and take this?

And someone PLEASE explain to me why they 8 DAYS off  BEFORE Christmas/

Harry Reid Rips Into John McCain Over DADT

Seante Majority Leader Harry Reid  ripped into this century’s Grandpa Munster aka Sen. John McCain on Saturday, saying basically McCain is full of BULLSHIT and comparing him to Lucy from Peanuts!  LOL!

“First, Sen. McCain said he would seriously consider repealing it if the military leadership thought we should, and [when] the military leadership said it should be repealed, he pulled away the football. Then Sen. McCain said he would need to see a study from the Pentagon. When the Pentagon produced the study saying repeal would have no negative effect at all, he pulled away the football again,”

“And his latest trick, he said yesterday that he opposed repealing ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’ a proposal that would be a great stride forward for both equality and military readiness … because of the economy, I repeat, the senior senator from Arizona said he couldn’t support repealing ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ because of the economy.

I have no idea what he’s talking about and no one else does either.”

McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan responded in an e-mail: “Perhaps someone should inform the majority leader the election is over.” Which is the McCain’s camp version of “I know you are but what am I?”

GetEQUAL & Discharged Gay Vets Descend On Senator Harry Reid’s Office and Demand Answers on ‘DADT Repeal’. Gets NONE

This morning Dan Choi, Jim Pietrangelo, Autumn Sandeen, and 9  GetEQUAL activists have gone to Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office to ask for an audience with Reid and get some answers about whats going on with DADT.

You’ll remember that Choi made headlines at Netroots Nation in Las Vegas when he approached Senator Harry Reid on-stage at a main conference event and gave his West Point cadet ring to Senator Harry Reid. At that time, Senator Reid – in front of this large crowd of progressive/liberal bloggers and activists, Senator Reid promised Dan that he would return the ring by the end of this year when the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy is repealed. Dan’s question to Senator Reid – ‘can I expect my ring back this year or not?'”

Reid did not have an answer.

According to the latest Tweets from GetEqual Reid Reid had absolutely no answers for them and that The White House has not even talked with Reid’s office yet about about further movement on the DADT repeal.

This is how much our country cares about its LGBT soilders and citizens.

*  It’s official.  Kentucky is now the most embarrassing laughable State in the Union and it elects Rand Paul as State Senator over Jack Conway. 

*  Neil Abercrombie has won the Governor’s race in Hawaii. He’ll sign the civil unions bill, which the current Governor, Linda Lingle, vetoed

*   All three Iowa Supreme Court Justices lost their bids for retention after NOMS heinous attack on the gay judges who set a precedent for gay marriage in Iowa.  My path for life is clear.  DESTROY BRIAN BROWN AND MAGGIE GALLAGHER.

*  Harry Reid defeated Sharron Angle.  Hopefully Harry will realize now that he needs to grow a backbone and rule the Senate with an IRON FIST for the next two years.

*  Anti-gay self loathing closet case Mark Kirk won the Illinois Senate seat held by Barack Obama. Kirk, who voted against DADT repeal in May, will become Senator immediately, meaning he’ll serve in the lame duck.  But really he’s a lame fuck.

*  Independent Lincoln Chafee has been elected Governor of Rhode Island — and he supports marriage equality.  Which is quite a change since the Governor he will take over for was a bible thumping homophobe

*  Rep. Patrick Murphy, the House sponsor of its successful DADT repeal bill, lost tonight to Tea Party candidate Mike Fitzpatrick. Another champion of LGBT rights bites the dust.

*  The Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO), an ardent opponent of repealing DADT, lost . Not really feeling bad about that one. Fuck you Ike!

*  Jerry Brown beat crazy illegal hiring bitch Meg Whitman!  Yea for Jerry!  Fuck you Meg!

*  Progressive Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold, a strong supporter of marriage equality, was defeated.  I hope that Russ takes this opportunity to re-evaluate and run on a Progressive Democrat platform for President in 2012 or 2016.

*  Openly gay  David Cicilline  wins U.S. House of Representatives seat (RI-1)  You go girl!

*  Barney Frank re-elected, as if that REALLY does us a lot of good.  But on the bright side GOProud wastes THOUSANDS of dollars on his TeaBagging Republican opponent Sean Bielat.  SUCK IT GOPOUD!

*  Lexington, Kentucky elects openly gay mayor  Jim Gray.  REMARKABLE achievement for the LGBT community in Lexington. Maybe the HRC should ask for pointers

*  Andrew Cuomo was elected NY Governor tover homophobe Carl Paladino who immediately went to find a Gay pride parade to go grind in.

*  Dickwad Republican Marc Rubio wins in Florida.  Rubio is the classic example of a minority bigot who hates homo’s

*  Sen. Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Win easily in New York State

*   New Hampshire. Governor John Lynch, who signed the marriage bill into law last year, was reelected. NOM put money in this race to defeat Lynch..  At least there was ONE massive #NOMFAIL

* Chris Coons beat that whack job witch Christine O’Donnell.  Now begone Christine before a house falls on you too!

*  Pro Gay Marriage Governor Martin O’Malley wins re-election in  Maryland.  O’Malley has vowed to sign a marriage bill should it reach his desk. Big win for LGBT rights!  And he’s kinda hot.

Tony Perkins And The Family Research Council Launches Phone Campaign Against DADT Repeal! (Are we shocked?)

Tony Perkins (Princess Tiny Meat herself) and the Family Research Council has issued an has issued the BIG BAD action alert calling for its members to deluge the Senate with complaints about Sen. Harry Reid’s promised vote on the repeal of DADT.

Finding jobs for homosexuals in the military appears to be the top priority for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) Yesterday he told colleagues that next week he will bring to the Senate floor a bill that would repeal the 1993 law which codified the military’s longstanding prohibition of homosexual conduct in the ranks. The amendment to allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military is found in the defense authorization bill–along with another anti-family amendment that would turn U.S. military medical facilities here and around the globe into abortion clinics. ABC News reported that this “will likely be the one major piece of legislation that the Senate tackles before the November mid-term elections.” This bill is not necessary to fund our military–an appropriations bill does that. The only urgency comes from Reid’s desire to pander to his pro-homosexual, pro-abortion base. Senators should reject Reid’s distorted priorities by voting against advancing this bill at every step. Contact your Senators today and tell them to stop using the military to impose this Administration’s radical homosexual agenda.

Tony, clutch your pearls, girlfriend because I have news for you.  There are already gays in the military.

BREAKING NEWS – Harry Reid Outlines Senate Agenda For June And EDNA Nowhere To Be Seen!

Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced on the Senate floor this afternoon the agenda for the June period:.  And once again.  NOTHING ON EDNA!
Ironically Reid stated:

“We want to empower public safety employees like firefighters, police officers and paramedics with a voice in decisions that affect their lives and their livelihoods. We want to ensure they have the same rights in the workplace as everyone else.

FUCK YOU HARRY!  How about LGBT Americans in the United States have the same rights in the workplace as everyone else!

You know what?  Unless the Democrats push through some serious pro-gay agenda issues like EDNA, the FULL DADT repeal, or such before November I guess I don’t have to worry about working to elect any Dems this fall or even clearing my calendar to make time to vote on election day because the crumbs they have been throwing aren’t cutting it.  And since we’re going to be firing all the Democrats and sending them home for good. Hope they have a wonderful Thanksgiving knowing their out of a job !

(Oh and for all of you out there who say “Like the Republicans will be any better.”.  No they won’t.  but at least with them you KNOW you are going to get nowhere and you aren’t promised the world and then given shit.)
