Actor Lee Pace, known for his work in Pushing Daisies, Guardians of the Galaxy The Hobbit, and is currently playing the role of Joe Pitt in the Broadway revival of Tony Kushner’s iconic play Angels in America, was asked about his sexual orientation in a recent interview with W magazine and his response has left many in the LGBT community less than impressed.
The last time Pace was on Broadway was in a revival of another classic gay play, Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart, which like Angels takes place at the onset of the AIDS crisis. “Our understanding of what it means to be gay is just so different,” Pace said of the climate in 2018. “It’s culturally different. It’s just so much further down the road. It’s an interesting thing for me to think about in this moment while working on this play.”
Pace added that he feels it’s important for gay actors to play the gay roles in both plays, but stopped short of labeling himself. He seemed a bit flustered and surprised by the question. “I’ve dated men. I’ve dated women,” he explained. “I don’t know why anyone would care. I’m an actor and I play roles. To be honest, I don’t know what to say—I find your question intrusive.”
Pace has lived in a glass closet for years and his sexuality is well known to those in Hollywood.
Perhaps Lee needs a history lesson about the importance of coming out.
Gay brothers and sisters,… You must come out. Come out… to your parents… I know that it is hard and will hurt them but think about how they will hurt you in the voting booth! Come out to your relatives… come out to your friends… if indeed they are your friends. Come out to your neighbors… to your fellow workers… to the people who work where you eat and shop… come out only to the people you know, and who know you. Not to anyone else. But once and for all, break down the myths, destroy the lies and distortions. For your sake. For their sake. For the sake of the youngsters who are becoming scared by the votes from Dade to Eugene.” – Harvey Milk
Cliff Kincaid, the head of the ultra right-wing anti-gay group called America’s Survival is calling upon Fox News network’s Shepard Smith, to come out of the closet and admit he’s gay.
Last Tuesday, during a presentation on America’s Survival’s report that Fox News isn;t being “right-wing” enough, Kincaid addressed the pink elephant in the room: namely, Shepard Smith’s annual inclusion on Out magazine’s Power List.
Now its very well known that among the gay bars on the Upper East Side of New York City and the LGBT community that Smith lives deep in the glass closet and takes Fox’s money. But it has never been noticed by the right-wing loons. That is until now.
“I don’t know about you, but if I was listed as one of the most powerful homosexuals in the media, I would first demand a retraction and probably sue for defamation and collect a lot of money,” Kincaid said. “Shepard Smith, according to my information, has never asked that that be taken down. He’s been one of Out magazines most powerful media homosexuals for several years in a row. So look, Shep, come out of the closet,” Kincaid urged. “Come out of the closet.” (So we can burn you at the stake.)
Kincaid also works for the inaccurately right wing group named Accuracy In Media, which earlier this month published a 40,000-word report declaring that Fox News has gone pro-gay.
That report was authored by…. American for Truth About Homosexuality leather chap loving President and hair club member “Porno Pete” LaBarbera.
American journalist, author, and primary anchor of the CNN news show Anderson Cooper 360, Anderson Hayes Cooper has FINALLY come out of the closet!
Andrew Sullivan in his column The Daily Dish today writes that as we have pastors calling for the death of gay people, bullying incidents and suicides among gay kids, and one major political party dedicated to ending the basic civil rights of LGBT individuals. That the visibility of gay Americans is one of the core means for our equality.
Sully in turn wrote to his friend Anderson Cooper who has notoriously been living in the “glass closet” for years now and asked him for his feedback on this subject.
Anderson responded and finally, after all this time has come out of the closet and bluntly says that he is gay and has given Sullivan permission to reprint it:
Recently, however, I’ve begun to consider whether the unintended outcomes of maintaining my privacy outweigh personal and professional principle. It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something – something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true.
I’ve also been reminded recently that while as a society we are moving toward greater inclusion and equality for all people, the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand.
The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.

All grown up 25 year old ex-Disney That’s So Raven star Raven-Symoné who’s currently starring in Boradway’s Sister Act as Deloris Van Cartier (A role she is faaar too young for. But thats another story.) responded today via Twitter to the news via The National Enquirer that she is a lesbian who’s currently dating model AzMarie Livingston.
I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest,” she tweeted “I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m datings to know.”
“I’m not one for a public display of my life. However that is my right as a HUMAN Being, whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I’m not harming anyone. I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life. Kisses!”
I wish Hollywood didn’t put such stigma on this. I sincerely hope that she relaxes and accepts herself a bit more.
But good for her for at least not denying it.
